Chapter 4 Smarter

Aria waited for Alaric's answer, though she hid her curious expression. Was there any other reason for Alaric to marry her other than her similarity to the ex?

Until an unexpected answer came out of the man's mouth. "Besides looking like Selene, you know how to pleasure me in bed." Alaric did not hide his lust for Aria.

Aria shook her head as she found it quite ridiculous, "You say you love her, but you praise me calmly. Well, I guess one can't believe a lover's honeyed words." How could this man say it so calmly? Sometimes she couldn't get over Alaric's judgment of her.

Alaric could catch the protesting tone of Aria's words. "What's wrong with my words? You are my wife."

Aria forced a smile. That's right, she wasn't the man's lover, but his wife. Although the position was higher, there was a clear difference between the two words. Aria said, "Yes, I am the wife you've bought with money. It is reasonable for me to fulfill my duty and meet your Physical needs, but sometimes your words are cruel. Are you worried that I might be hurt as your wife?"

Alaric smiled slightly and looked intensely at Aria. "You won't, because you are smart. You know if you lose me, you will lose your source of income. You can't bear losing the glory and wealth you have acquired. I know you can understand the situation in front of you. So I don't need to worry about that."

Aria laughed after hearing Alaric's answer. It was true, in Alaric's eyes, she was just a woman who was crazy about money. Although that wasn't entirely true. After drinking some wine, her cheeks turned a little red, which made her appear more charming.

"You know me well. You know I'm a gold digger, no wonder we fit each other perfectly in bed. Come on! Let's toast for a wonderful night!"

Aria held the goblet and said naturally with grace. Seeing that beautiful and charming face, Alaric could no longer hold himself back from bringing Aria's body straight to the bed. Their gazes met each other, until soon, the two lips met and crushed each other.

Later, Aria lay naked on Alaric's chest after making love. She was quite tired after doing so. Alaric could always exhaust her with his strength which she thought would never run out. She had to admit that although there was no love between them, they matched perfect in bed. She even had an illusion that Alaric was actually in love with her. Isn't that a silly thing?

There was no way Alaric was going to love her while he still had the name of another woman in his heart. Before it got any further, she had to realize that she was only a substitute in Alaric's life.

Then, Aria drew circles on Alaric s chest seductively, and said in an extremely sweet tone, "You are an outstanding man. You have everything. Good looks, wealth, and power. It's no wonder that so many women fall for you. It makes them very jealous of the position I have right now. Even though they don't know the true meaning of our marriage."

Alaric fell silent at Aria's words, without looking at the woman's face. Alaric grabbed her restless hand and said, "As long as you are not one of them, I am fine. I won't tolerate it if you become one of them. Because I don't like it very much. You should act like the wife of Alaric Hawthorne."

Aria smiled sweetly, looking at Alaric, and said, "Why are you so afraid of me pestering you? Have I been bothering you with anything you've been doing? I've always obeyed everything you've said."

Alaric said coldly, "I don t like women who cry and pester. I know that you always obey what I want. That's why, in the future, you also have to behave the same way."

Aria smiled wryly. In the future? Wouldn't they be separated soon? The word 'future' was not suitable for those who would soon become strangers. But, for now Aria wouldn't think about it.

Then, Aria smiled in a seductive manner, supported herself on her elbow, and pressed her body against his, her amorous eyes sparkling with engaging charm. She wanted to tease Alaric tonight. Because in the future she wouldn't be able to do the same thing again.

"You are so sober, are you afraid that I will be hurt by your heartless remarks? Did you think I would take seriously what you always say to me?"

Alaric gazed closely at Aria, who could cast spells over men like a fairy, before answering her confidently, "You won't be. I'm sure you won't take what I say to you seriously. Because you will never have any feelings for me."

Aria smiled and said sweetly, "That is true. What I love is your money. Money always makes me feel securer than men. So, I will never once be swayed by what you say, even if it sounds very cruel to my ears. Because I will accept everything, as long as my money will always be in the bank account."

There was an obvious change in Alaric's expression before he replied, "I must say, you surely know how to show your money-oriented attitude better than any other woman. Because I've understood it very well during these four years of marriage."

Upon hearing the words, the smile on Aria s face faded, and she was overwhelmed by sheer bitterness once again. Alaric's words always sounded cruel to her. Even though she had heard them many times, it still felt awful to hear them all the time. Was she really that cheap in Alaric's eyes?

Aria suddenly lost the energy to seduce Alaric, and lay on the bed quietly. She looked away from Alaric, as if she was angry at what he had just said.

Alaric was caught off guard, and said, "What's the matter with you?"

Instead answering his question, Aria kept her eyes closed.

Alaric turned sideways to face her, supporting his head with his hands, and said, "Are we good? You looked fine just now."

With her eyes closed, Aria suddenly said, "If I say I am in love with you, do you believe it?"

Alaric was stunned for a moment, and then said with a cold expression, "I've already told you four years ago. You must not fall in love with me, not matter what. The relationship between us is nothing more than that between an employer and an employee."
