Chapter 5 Falling For You?

It was like having a boulder slammed into her chest at this moment upon hearing those hurtful words come out of Alaric's mouth. Aria felt the pain in her heart, as if it was being cut open with a knife, and she could even feel the blood dripping off. Even though she had heard that painful phrase many times over the past four years, she was still not used to it and still felt the pain.

She took a deep breath to suppress her bitterness, then opened her eyes, looked at Alaric with a smile, and said, "Mr. Hawthorne, why are you so afraid of me falling in love with you?" She wanted to hear Alaric's answer, even though she knew what would come out of his mouth. Still, she was stubborn to hear that answer.

Alaric was silent for a moment at his wife's question. There seemed to be no intention from Alaric to answer it. Just like before, if a question like that came out, Alaric would always avoid it. Until Alaric lifted the sheet off his body and got off the bed, exposing his naked strong body.

He meticulously picked up his clothes and put them on, condescendingly looking at Aria, who was still lying on the bed, "Aria, I am out of your league. Put away your so-called love, or I will consider ending our marriage earlier. You should know that I dislike it the most when you keep asking me questions like that. Next time, don't ask me the same thing again."

Aria got off the bed as well, and walked towards Alaric, stretching out to wrap around his strong waist. To be honest, she was actually a bit confused with herself. Did she really like Alaric Hawthorne? She actually didn't mind the approaching divorce. But, for some reason, there was another side of her that wasn't willing for the divorce to happen. Was it just because of the man's good looks and wealth?

"Mr. Hawthorne, don't you think you are too heartless? Anyway, I am still your nominal wife. You won't lose anything if you say something nice to me, will you? You never talk to me in a kind and gentle way. You always use that cold tone with me. I really want to hear you speak softly to me." Aria said in a sobbing tone. Aria didn't understand why she was suddenly so emotional right now. Whereas normally she would be fine with that cold tone. Sheesh, what happened to her this time?

Buttoning his shirt, Alaric froze for a while, as he suddenly realized that Aria, who was always invulnerable, had cried. He became a bit surprised by Aria's suddenly changed behavior.

Alaric had mixed feelings. Alaric turned around and saw Aria who had her face down. He sighed softly and approached his wife. He lifted her chin, only to see her big smile, and there was no trace of sadness on her face. Was this woman really crying? Why did that big smile appear so quickly?

Alaric pinched her chin and said, "As long as you behave yourself and stop your fantasy, you can hold the title of Mrs. Hawthorne for a longer period of time. As for the money, I will make sure you get what you deserve. You don't have to worry about anything, I'll prepare everything you need. No matter how much money you need, I will fulfill it. As long as you can behave as I order."

"But what I need isn't just money." Aria only said that in her heart. Without the courage to say it out loud.

Aria leaned over, taking a bite on his chin lightly, and said in a sweet tone, "Don't worry, Mr. Hawthorne, I am unworthy to seek any connection with you. I was just joking. You know that I like to joke about it. And there's no way you'll get excited about what I said." Aria hoped, though, that Alaric would think about what she had said.

Alaric smiled wryly after hearing that. He knew that Aria couldn't possibly mean it. Because he was sure that all she wanted from him was money. So, there was no way Aria would have any feelings for him. "It's good for you to know your position." Alaric said.

He liked Aria's enduring personality. Four years ago, he chose to marry her based on two considerations: firstly, she looked like Selene; and secondly, she worshipped money. A woman who could be handled with money would not become a problem for him in the future, and that was why he married her in the first place. In the past four years, he was quite satisfied for her abiding attitude.

Aria, who always obeyed whatever he said, made it very easy for Alaric. He doesn't need to be bothered with a woman who will always disturb his peace. You could say that's Aria's extra point compared to other women who approached him, even that advantage is not owned by his ex, Selene Hart.

Alaric squeezed her chin, and said, "Just behave yourself! I have asked the lawyer to draft the divorce agreement. You can go directly to the law firm next week and sign the papers. As for the compensation fee, I am sure to transfer a generous amount to you."

Aria smiled sweetly. "Then I'd like to thank you in advance, Mr. Hawthorne."

Upon hearing her words, Alaric kissed her aggressively on her lips, kicking off another round of "pleasure" on the bed.

Afterward, Aria nestled in Alaric's arms, and said coquettishly, "Mr. Hawthorne, will you carry me to the bathroom? I want to take a shower"

Alaric stroked her back with enjoyment, but said coldly, "I'm a little tired now. You can take the shower tomorrow morning. Let's go to bed now."

A trace of disappointment flashed in Aria's eyes. She had known Alaric for four years, but she was nothing but a sex tool to him. Alaric never thought of her as a woman, just an object of lust. One that could be discarded whenever the man wanted.

Alaric couldn't care less about what Aria was thinking, and quickly fell asleep.

Aria went into the bathroom and soaked in a hot bath to washaway her exhaustion. Then, she walked out of the bathroom with a bath towel wrapped around her body.

Standing by the bed, Aria looked at Alaric with complex emotions, and finally sighed deeply.

Was this really the end of her marriage to Alaric? During these four years, Aria was really curious. Had he never once had any feelings for her? Did Alaric not feel for her at all?
