Chapter 5 Her Tricks

"Get the fuck in." Luis scolded her, and she quickly pulled the passenger door open and got in.

She had not yet sat comfortably when he started the car, so she jolted and bit her tongue.

Her eyes became sore, but she couldn't complain. "If you try any of your tricks, you will pay dearly," he warned at once, and she nodded.

"If you mention the word 'slave' then you will die."

She nodded again, and he wasn't done. "If you try to take advantage of this situation, then you might as well kiss your face. Goodbye."

Mei Li was confused. What type of person did he think she was?

He didn't even know her but just assumed she was that type of woman. Why will she take advantage of this situation?

She hated the situation she was in right now. Did he think she was enjoying feigning to be his girlfriend? That was a nightmare for her.

The ride was silent till they arrived at the modern mansion on the outskirts of Shanghai.

He parked the car in the parking lot, walked down the car, and walked to the entrance with Mei Li behind him.

His grandma had come to the door to welcome them, "Mei Li." She called happily and didn't even pay attention to her grandson.

"Hello ma'am" She greeted her with her gaze on her feet; she didn't even dare look at the old lady in her face.

"I am glad you came. Come let me give you a tour around my home." She held Mei Li's hand and dragged her inside.

Luis sighed and walked in. He walked to the wine bar and picked up a bottle, half filled a glass, took off his mask, and drank it in a gulp.

He looked at his reflection in the mirror before him, and a frown formed on his lips before he wore back his mask.

The old lady had shown Mei Li around her home as they returned to the sitting room with excited looks.

Immediately Mei Li spotted Luis; her smile disappeared, and she looked down.

"Let's all have dinner." The old Shing didn't let go of Mei Li as she walked with her to the table.

Luis joined and sat at the edge of the table, about four chairs away from Mei Li.

The maids helped dish out the meal before they left. "Eat well, child; you are so pale," Grandma Shing said to Mei Li, who smiled at her.

"Your grandson will make me worse; please save me," she thought, still maintaining her smile as she picked up the chopstick and took a slice of meat.

They were both eating while discussing casually when Grandma Shing's gaze darted to Luis, who was busy on his phone.

"Luis, aren't you hungry?"

"Hm," he simply nodded and continued what he was doing, then she noticed he still had his mask on.

"It's just us here; you could take off your mask."

Mei Li felt his gaze on her, so she didn't dare look at him. Deep down, she also wanted to see the face behind that mask, but it was his choice, and if he decided to put that on, then there must be a very good reason.

Seeing that Luis didn't take off the mask, his grandma got curious: "Have you never taken off your mask in front of Mei Li?"

Then how did they even end up in a relationship? Did she just date someone she had no idea what he looked like? Was that even a thing?

There was no response, and this confirmed the old woman's doubt: "Mei Li, are you both really together? I trust you will tell me the truth." The old woman was hurt; did Luis lie to her?

She was so excited that he now had a girlfriend; she had even bragged about it with her sister and her sister's family, who were always compared to theirs.

But now she felt like she had bragged too early, "I... I don't." Mei Li stuttered as sweat formed on her forehead.

It wasn't her wish to lie to the old woman, but if she told her the truth, then Luis wouldn't spare her.

"I am waiting for him to be comfortable with me, then he will open up. So I am not in a hurry," she explained, and the old woman smiled at how considerate she was.

"It's good you understand him; he is tough from the outside, but believe me. He is very soft." Grandmother Shing explained, and Mei Li felt like laughing.

Soft? Luis Shing was soft? She had known the man for a little time, and she knew that this man was far from soft; she even wondered if he knew the meaning of soft.

"I know Grandma," she nodded.

"I am already too old, and there is no one to care for him, but with you here... I will be rest assured."

Mei Li chuckled lightly. "What do you mean by being old? You are still too young."

This was a chance for her to please the old woman, so she did exactly what Krish had suggested, and the old woman laughed.

"You are so sweet."

Then they continued eating, before the old woman stopped and asked, "Mei Li, where do you live?"

She didn't even know what to say. Was she supposed to lie now or say the truth? Luis didn't tell her about that.

"She is an orphan, so she lives with me." Luis took the liberty to answer this time around, and his grandma frowned.

"I am sorry about your parents, and I also appreciate the fact that my grandson is so considerate to let you stay with him. But that's a little inappropriate given that you are both not married," she explained, and they both wondered where she was going with that point of hers.

"I live all alone here; how about you stay with me instead?"

Mei Li became excited; she would love that a lot. This way, she would be far from Luis and his tortures.

Luis frowned at his grandma. Why was she such a busybody?

Mei Li lost all hope of moving in with the old woman when she saw the frown on Luis's face. He will never accept it.

"Luis, what do you say?" Grandma Shing asked.

"I object," he answered at once, and this caused his grandma to frown. "What do you mean by object? I understand that you don't want to be separated from her....."

Luis snorted loudly. He didn't want to be separated from her? The only reason he wanted her with him was because he planned to torture her until she committed suicide the same way his sister did.

If not, then why would he care about such a woman?

"What is the snort about?" Grandma Shing asked, and Luis stood up; he had already had enough of her talks and was done pretending.

"Your doubts are correct; she isn't my girlfriend. It's no use lying to you when you tend to make matters hard."
