Chapter 8 Marry Who

Let's go," he said as she followed him. They both took the stairs downstairs and got to his car. This time around, she didn't contemplate where to sit; she simply pulled the passenger seat door open and got in before he drove out.

"Can I please know where we are going?" She asked, as she still had a little boldness left in her.

He didn't reply and just kept driving. The ride was a little long before they arrived at the hospital, and they walked down the car.

She could only follow him as they got inside the elevator, then it stopped, and they walked down a long corridor and stood before a ward.

He tried to open it, but it was locked. "Fuck," he hissed angrily. Doctor Yu opened the door, about to step out. As soon as he spotted Luis, he quickly shut the door.

Luis and Mei Li were left puzzled: Why will the doctor do that?

Doctor Yu hurried to the old Shing. "Your grandson came with the woman,"

The old Shing was busy watching a rom-com; she quickly turned off the TV and wore her oxygen mask, then laid on the bed with a dying look.

"Let them inside," she ordered, and the doctor nodded. Now it was their time to pull their cards, he had to admit that the old lady was very mischievous and cunning.

Doctor Yu opened the door with a smile. "Sorry, I just had to ask for her approval first," he apologized, and Luis snorted and stepped into the ward with Mei Li.

Mei Li's eyes softened as she saw the old woman's state.

"Luis, is that you?" Grandma Shing stuttered with a low tone. Luis stood next to her and held her hand in his.

"Is your condition this critical?" he asked with a surprised tone.

"Yes, her blood pressure has raised a lot. She doesn't need to be stressed," the doctor explained.

"If she gets angry once, then I am scared her condition will be very, very, very critical."

Mei Li smiled at the old lady, "You will be fine."

Grandma Shing smiled before her gaze moved to Luis, "My grandson is so stubborn, he will never find a woman who will genuinely accept him."

Luis frowned. What did she mean by saying he would never find a woman who wanted him?

"You shouldn't talk; have some rest, okay?" Mei Li explained, and she shook her head in denial and tried to take off her oxygen mask when Luis stopped her.

"I want to have a word with Mei Li; can you all please step out?"

The doctor nodded and hurried out, but Luis didn't move. Why should he step out? She should be having a private conversation with him instead.

Mei Li stared at Luis, who didn't move. She sighed and looked away. Why couldn't he respect his grandma even when she was in such a condition?

"Luis," his grandma frowned, and he snorted, "Fine."

Then he gave a warning glare at Mei Li before he walked out and closed the door behind him. As soon as he was out, the old woman said to Mei Li, "Go close the door."

She nodded and did just that, to her surprise., the old lady took off the oxygen mask and sat up on the bed.

"You...you shouldn't take that off."

"I am fine; there is no time, so I will make my proposition at once," she stated, and Mei Li was curious: What proposition?

"My grandson has a stone heart, and it breaks my heart so much."

Mei Li agreed with her; she had never seen anyone as heartless as Luis Shing.

"And I see a lot of potential in you; you have a lot of love and warmth to give. So please, marry him." She folded her hands and begged. Mei Li couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Marry who? Luis?

Mei Li chuckled; she knew it was a joke. The old woman had said it herself that her grandson had a stone heart, so how could she even propose marriage to her?

"It's a proposition; don't reject it until you hear your win," Grandma Shing said before she went further to explain what Mei Li's gain in this arrangement would be.

"I did some background checking on you, and I realized you are the granddaughter of Aldolph Li; he was a great man. I also know he left all his inheritance to you, but your stepbrother claimed it and tortured you; he even went as far as selling you to Luis."

Mei Li was shocked that the old lady knew she was sold to Luis; for how long has she known this?

"I will get all your grandpa's assets and hand them over to you. Also, make sure you are not Luis's property, and he will never ever hurt you again."

Mei Li blinked; this was like everything she wished for before she decided to hang herself.

She wished she could get all her grandpa's assets, and this woman was offering them to her.

She wished she could be free from Luis's trenches and live a life with no torture, and this woman just offered it to her.

She had made up her mind that if she could get all these, then her life would be so peaceful that she wouldn't need to kill herself.

But at what risk? Married to Luis?

Wasn't that worse than death?

"The choice is yours; you are still young. Do you wish to fix your future or stay this way?"

Mei Li sighed heavily. "How is marrying Luis going to fix my future? That man is a monster, no offense, but... That's just how I see him."

Grandma Shing nodded; she had every right to say that, "He never keeps a slave; if he did it this time to you, then there must be a strong reason. I am not trying to defend him, but I wish a day would come when you would understand him."

Mei Li shook her head in denial. "I can't marry him." She turned to leave; she couldn't marry Luis.

It was better for her to commit suicide than to marry that man.
