Chapter 3

Clara's pov

I looked around everywhere for Bryce, but he must have escaped the whole family bonding thing. Aiden called me asking if I had seen Josie because she wasn't answering her phone. She was probably studying for the test she had coming up. There was no way my cousin would go behind my back and see Josie after I told him not to. Would he?

I called Josie but she didn't pick up. Why wasn't she answering her phone? She got so wrapped up in studying that everything else got brushed aside, but I had a feeling something else was going on. Aiden said she's been distant lately. He was the perfect guy, what more could she want? I decided to call Bryce to see if he was with her since she wasn't answering. If he was, I would put a stop to it fast.

"Hey cuz what's up?" Bryce said.

"Where are you?"

"I went for a walk why?"

"Your parents are looking for you."

"I am almost back to your house so chill out."

"Who were you with Bryce?"

"No one I just needed to get away from all the family for a bit it got to be too much."

"Yea okay I got to let you go Josie is calling me on the other line."

"Oh, is that your hot friend I am never allowed to be around?"

I was going to say something else, but I hurried to click over and talk to Josie. I asked her where she had been, and she came up with the excuse that she didn't hear her phone go off. I could tell she was lying, but I didn't know why. Josie always told me everything. So why would she lie to me now? What was going on with her?

I had a feeling that both my best friend and my cousin were lying. If they were together, I would find out about it. He was not going to come here and mess everything up. Josie and Aiden were the perfect couple. Everyone knows they will end up married someday. She cannot mess that up for a guy like Bryce. I love my cousin, but he is a total player.

I have always wished I had the kind of relationship she and Aiden had. He was super sweet and always doing things for her. He had his life planned out. Knew exactly what he wanted out of life. I had a huge crush on Aiden at first, but he only had eyes for Josie. I need to talk to her before she makes a huge mistake. One she can't ever take back.

I saw Bryce walking up with a smile on his face. I knew he wasn't smiling from his so-called walk. He had found a new plaything. One that better not be who I think it is. He may be family, but he will not hurt my best friend. I made him promise to stay away from her.

"Bryce, you promised me you would stay away from Josie."

"I know Clara and I have. I was just out walking around and noticing all the hot college girls in town that's it."

"It is. Josie is practically engaged, and you don't need to get in the middle of that."

"Look she is your best friend, and I am now living with you, and going to school here I am going to see her around. Maybe we can be friends, but she has a man which means hands off. I am not about to break anyone up so get over yourself already."

He walked away from me and slammed the door. I felt bad for how I was acting. Now my cousin was mad at me. He was right they would be around each other. I guess I need to introduce them and trust them both not to do something stupid. This could either be a good thing or go wrong.
