Chapter 8 Defending Ember

[Ember POV]

" I'm sorry but Alpha Paris must attend."

I saw how Kate bowed her head and wanted to disappear from everyone. Some of the guests got their attention, so all their eyes were glued to them.

" So, my ex-husband still chose Kate as his mate after I rejected him. I see. Maybe I knew now what he was about to tell me over the phone about her."

I don't want to get involved with them anymore, but my friend Ashley heard Paris's name, so she took my hands and pulled me towards them.

Christina and Kate's eyes widened to see me. They scanned my whole body from head to toe. I saw how Kate's expression changed after seeing me. Her brows rise with confusion.

" Ember? What are you doing here? Are you here for my brother too? Hey, this girl needs to be thrown outside. She's the ex-wife of my brother and Kate was his fiance. How come no one dares to take her outside?".

"I don't care about your brother anymore. Also, I have rejected Paris already. I came here on my own because i was invited".

" What? Do you know about this woman? She's a murderer who tried to kill my brother's mate when he rejected her. I guess you hit on someone again now that Paris leave you, you whore!"

My friend Ashley rushed towards her and slapped her face. Her expression changed from soft to firm.

"You're such losers! Have some respect here," Ash shouted.

I don't have time for these nobodies. Come on,' I told Ash.

"Surely, I won't waste my lovely evening on them", Ash replied.

" What did you just say? You call us losers? " Christina snarled like a beast and laughed mockingly.

"Ember, you're the nobody here. You're just a useless Omega and you're such a shame."

Kate sneered. "You're absolutely right, Christina. Ember is just bragging she was never invited here, only important pack members are supposed to be in this party."

I looked at Kate and Christina with a smirk of loathing. With a cold tone, I announced, "Yes, I know what you mean, not everyone can attend."

Christina raised her brows and asked, "What the hell are you trying to say?"

"What I mean is you are not invited, so you don't have to be here at all!"

"Are you kidding me?" Christina laughed loudly," You're lied!"

Kate also laughed and said, 'What a joke! What's really funny is that a trash like you, dumped and filthy, is pretending to be so important."

"I suggest you shut up. You know nothing. Otherwise, it will be too embarrassing if you are kicked out pf here later," Ash interrupted.

Soon, a man in a suit approached us with several security guards behind him.

"Apologize? I would never do that!" I said.

"Excuse me, the party is about to start, you can come with us now, " The man in a suit said politely.

"Will do." I replied bluntly and then left with Ash.

Christina and Kate were surprised. "That's John, the banquet manager. He is a big shot and very famous in the this area. How could John possibly know a poor loser like Ember?"

Kate said, still confused and asked Christina, "What's going on?"

Meanwhile, I ordered the security guard behind me, "Kindly let those ladies out, thank you."

The security guards approached Kate and Christina told them to leave.

"What the hell? I am Paris' fiancée! Are you crazy? How dare you ask me to leave?" Kate screamed

I heard Christina added, "I'm the sister of Alpha Paris. He is one of the strongest and richest Alpha! How could you stop me from coming in?"

"Remember this moment you offended us! You'll regret it!"

"Whoever you are, please leave." banquet manager John replied without care.

I even added, "Make sure I will not see them here anymore."

"They're so annoying," Ash said. "Throw them out now."

The security guards then dragged Kate and Christina out.

No one cares about Christina nor Kate.

Christina felt insulted for the first time.

I simply placed my hands on my brother's hands and he began to lead me to the dance floor. The waltz music started and I remember that our father taught us about this since were young. Both of us swayed our bodies to the rhythm of the music and moved our legs freely like we were alone in this place. This was the first time I felt carefree. I don't have to worry about tomorrow, to wake up early to prepare breakfast for my husband's sister and mother. I don't have to do much laundry in the middle of the night until my hands go scraped.

" See, Paris, she found a new boyfriend that's why she left the pack house!". It was Cristina mocking me again.

I could feel Paris staring at me as I danced with my brother. I am aware that I looked stunning dressed like this with my brother handsomely with me, as if we are a couple.

After a while, my brother and I walked out of the dance floor. I knew that we would pass Paris but I pretended not to notice him. Then, I felt him grab my arm.

" Is this because of the party? Did you use my mistake as an excuse to be with this guy? Tell me!". Paris's voice growled but as the music turned loud, the guests couldn't guess if he was making a scene or not.

"You hit my sister and you think I won't react to that?" I heard Paris' words loudly.

Now I get it, is he here to press charges?

Right now, I would not be hurt by him anymore.

"If you want to press charges, I am just here." I heard myself challenging Paris.

When I was about to turn away from him. I heard Paris say, "Stop, did I say I am done? You can't turn away from me!"

He stood between me and Paris and continued saying, "You have no right to accuse her without evidence. Maybe you should ask your sister what she did!"

Paris:"What are you saying?"

Paris was also angry, "Axel, be careful what you say."

If you don't want to believe it, check the surveillance cameras and you will see." Axel challenged Paris.

The confusion was obvious in Paris' expression as he stared at Christina.

At this point, Christina panicked because she did not expect that she'd be caught.

"Don't believe him! I didn't do anything. Of course he would defend Ember. He is Ember's boyfriend now,"

Paris got heated with the word boyfriend.

He questioned Axel, agitated, "This does not concern you. It's between me and Ember. Who are you?"

The confrontation caught the attention of people around, and were also wondering about Axel and Ember. Everyone were now making speculations about my relationship with Axel. I heard some of their whispers that I was having an affair with Axel and Paris caught us in the act. There was another gossip saying that I was a social climber and left Paris for Axel.

Axel looked around us and stated, "I have invited Ember to this banquet and this banquet is held here in my place. Also, she belongs with me and I won't allow anyone to say or do anything to hurt her."

Paris sneered, "Axel, your claims have no basis! You are just making up stories!"

Challenged by Paris' mockery, Axel calmly asked, "Who are you to question me? I invited Ember here and she is my guest, what do you care?"

"I am her husband!" Paris blurted out for everyone to hear.

"You're her ex-husband!" Axel's words were full of mockery."You've been married to Ember for three years, and you have never been her true husband for a single day. You let her be bullied by your pack and for that she suffered a lot! Since you don't know how to cherish her as your wife, you're better of dead and be out of her life completely!

"Also..." Axel turned his gaze to Christina," If you dare cause trouble for Ember again, it won't be as simple as a slap. Remember that.

After this warning, my older brother pulled me away.

I was shut silent by Axel's words.

I used to ignore Ember and had no idea about her situation in the past three years.

"Brother! What have you done? You haven't avenged me at all!" I heard Christina shouting at me. "You should teach Axel a lesson! Don't let them go like that!"

"Christina, now I am asking you, did you bother Ember like what Axel was saying?"

Christina's eyes hinted of guilt, and she countered, "Of course not, I really didn't do anything, everything is Ember 's fault!"

I gave her a searching look, "Okay then, since you said so, let's go check the surveillance footage right now."

Christina's eyes revealed panic.

Christina tried to walk away from me, but I grabbed her arm. I dragged her, half-pulling her into the banquet monitoring room.

The large screen on the wall replayed the scene of the conflict between Ember and Christina earlier. I saw in the video that Christina made things difficult for Ember, and I heard Christina insulting Ember, calling her a whore . Finally I couldn't bear it anymore, and questioned Christina. She had her head bowed nervously beside me, "Is this what you said about not doing anything?" I asked accusingly.

Christina panicked and said, "Brother, please let me explain!"

"Shut up, you don't need to say a word anymore! I'm very upset. Go apologize to Ember now. Otherwise, you won't get a penny from me again!" I threatened her.

Christina glared back at me, "You want me to apologize to that lowly woman, Ember?"

I didn't pay attention to Christina at all. I did not even let her finish speaking as I ran out.

My heart was full of guilt. I can't help but think, how much suffering did I caused Ember from my neglect of her in the past three years?

But why didn't Ember ever tell me? And what's the relationship between Ember and Axel ?
