Chapter 8 A LOVER'S PACT

LIAM'S POV

She looked at Tobias, and back at me.

"Your personal assistant said that you sent for me?"

"Please, leave us." I said to Tobias, my eyes not leaving hers.

She looked very stunning. She was wearing a red shirt dress, body con and beautiful, with black heels. Her hair, pulled back in a sleek ponytail and those blood red lips, they were pulling me in so hard.

"I'm taking the drink with me though." He commented and began his walk to the door.

"Hello Yvonne." He said before stepping out.

She just stood there after the door had closed behind her.

"Are you not going to say anything?" I asked her.

She sighed and crossed her arms below her chest.

"What do you want me to say huh? That you lied to me? That I should perhaps refer to you as sir now that you're married?" She gasped sharply, cutting her own sentence short.

It was a pained gasp and it sliced through my heart.

Then she placed her palm over her face and took in a very deep breath before looking at me with her big beautiful orbs which were now brimming with tears.

I moved to her and held her in my arms but she stepped away from me.

"That night after we met your father, everything seemed like it went well and he was happy to have me with him..." She inhaled sharply,

Her tears were already falling from her eyes.

"You didn't tell me that he didn't like me or that he had rejected me and has picked someone else for you and what I hear is that she's very pretty too..."

"No no Yvonne, don't say those things please." I moved to pull her close to me but she stepped away from me again.

"Please you have to listen to me..."

"No, you have to listen to me." She yelled and pointed her pretty manicured index finger at me.

"You lied to me Liam. Now that you're married, it's all over between us."

Those were the words I didn't want to hear right now. I would never accept them. She was dreaming if she ever thinks that I'll be leaving her for anything or anyone else.

"No Yvonne, listen to me."

This time she had no choice but to listen because even I could hear the authority mixed with rage in my voice with which I spoke to her.

Everything was just boiling up inside me. My father and Audrey , who accepted his proposal, are who I blame for all this.

"I do not love her, it's you that I love."

"Then why did you lie to me? Why didn't you tell me?" She asked.

She was looking more vulnerable than ever before and it was something I could not attribute to her. Yvonne was a very strong woman and that is why I fell for her in the first place. Smart and ambitious. It is her skills that have helped me so far to get to where I am and so I cannot see myself in a world where she's not there.

This whole thing must have really hurt her to see her like this. I walked to her taking my time, afraid that she might reject me, my touch and my consolation.

"I didn't because I didn't know of it either. After our dinner with father, a few days later, he came to me saying that he has a wife prepared for me and that I could not marry you when I proposed the offer of getting married to you instead.

"Then?" She prodded.

"Then after our argument, two days later, he came up with a proposal."

"What is it about?" She asked her voice was shaky.

"He would only give me my share of inheritance if I agreed to get married to her." I replied .

She closed her eyes tight and a tear fell, "why is the inheritance so important to you anyway. You already have a flourishing company..."

"It's not mine," I interrupted.

I saw her eyes grow wide with shock. Tobias was the only one who knew that the company actually belonged to my father and I was simply just managing it on his behalf while acting like the owner.

That was my deal to my father. He would allow me to have sixty percent control over the company while he takes a portion, seventy percent of the profits amassed and I take the other thirty of the profit as my salary.

He agreed only after I had made a very huge profit and it became clear to him that I was CEO material.

"How many of your secrets are there? How many more lies have you told me?" She screamed and hit my chest angrily.

I could understand her anger and pain.

"Why are you only telling me this now? What difference does it make?" She asked.

"It's the reason why I had no choice but to marry her." I replied.

She inhaled and sniffed before stepping back from me.

"Well, I guess that leaves me no choice. I can't..." She paused and tried to stifle her tears as she spoke to me.

I didn't want to hear it,

"We cannot be together anymore. You have a wife now and I will not want to get in the way of you and your father and most importantly, I want what's best for you and I know that your inheritance is very important to you so...I'm ready to give you up..."

"Don't say anything again. You have no right to tell me who to stay with and who not to. Not you, not my father and not anyone else. The reason why there is no one that knows that I am not the real owner of this company is because how would I get their full cooperation and loyalty if they did?" I asked her.

I walked up to her once again and pulled her into my embrace, "I promise you, I will find a way for us to be together permanently. for now, I am still within my father's leash but soon enough, I will own it all."

I pulled back and looked at her intensely, "and I will have you by my side. Forever."
