Chapter 10 EMBITTERED

YVONNE'S POV

I got back to my desk after my discussion with Liam. It really hurt me when I saw it trending in the newspaper that one of the hottest billionaires, Liam Smith has found himself a suitable and down to earth wife. I kept thinking about it till I got home.

I scoffed, "she's just a gold digger like all the rest."

"Ohh, you seem so pissed, Yvonne. Don't tell me it's because of what you saw on the internet." Mary said.

I rolled my eyes and just kept typing what I was typing into the computer in front of me. I was home now and I was living with my friend.

"You are such a gossip, you know that right?" I said to her without even glancing at her.

"You can't blame me, I couldn't help but hear you mutter." She said,

I sighed, "please, I'm busy so can you not disturb me right now?" It was a request.

I would like her to take it while I'm still being nice.

She sat down on the bed close to me, the sop felt uncomfortable.

"Baby girl, listen to me, this can really pose a huge problem and you know that."

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

She scooted even closer and it made me very irritated. I stopped what I was doing and shot daggers her way with the way I was looking at her.

She rolled her eyes, "you may not take me seriously right now but soon enough, you'll come back running to me to look for a shoulder to cry on and of course, I'll always be willing to lend it to you."

"Can you just cut the crap? Liam and I have spoken about it and he assured me that he will do something about it." I said to her,

She burst out laughing and that only increased the anger I was feeling at that moment.

"What is so funny to you Mary? You know that you're not helping the situation. You're only making me feel very anxious and agitated." I told her honestly.

She was making me feel very uneasy.

"You should darling. He told you that will take care of it? When will he be able to do that? It's his father we are talking about here, he's not going to let Liam have it so easy. He may even try to play Cupid between the both of them."

It was then that it hit me that what she was saying might actually be right. His father was known to be very tactical and I've met with him. He was very good at pretending. I mean he pretended to be okay with me only to reject me for his son and bring in another girl.

I looked at Mary, "what do you suggest I do?"

"Will it matter? As long as Liam and that girl are married, at some point, he will eventually fall in love with her and they might even have a kid together who will eventually grow up to be his heir. I suggest that you just forget about him. He's a married man now."

"How can you say that to me? You know that this isn't easy on me and you're telling me this?" I couldn't help the anger that was brewing in me.

I dropped my laptop to the side and patched around a few times. My head was totally screaming, "the end is nigh for me and Liam and I won't agree to it."

I looked back at her, "I will make sure that in the end, it's me and not her that Lima ends up with."

She scoffed, "and how do you plan to do that?" She asked.

"I don't know yet, but I will."

She stood up and placed her hands on my shoulder,

"I just don't want you to get hurt at all. It may not look like it but I really care about you."

I shrugged her hands off, "thanks but I don't need it." I replied and went to my bathroom and just turned on the faucet.

Somehow, I wanted the sound of the running water to silence all the million thoughts that had arisen in my mind.

I was so angry and I thought of doing something the next day. I won't tell Liam about it of course. It would be just me.

My mind has already resolved to do just that.

The next day, I wore a body con red dress underneath an equally red intricately cut blazer with lovely silver heels to compliment the look.

"You seem to be going somewhere important today." Mary said.

I didn't reply to her. I didn't feel like I needed to and plus, I planned on keeping it a secret until I had done it although I felt like after I was done doing it, Liam would hear of it.

"Don't wait for me. I'll be going to the office after I've gone to see who I want to." I said and walked out the door.

I stood in front of the very huge mansion of Mr. Smith. I took in deep breaths. There was no need to panic. I've been here before and we have spoken like normal individuals so it shouldn't be that hard.

I walked through the large double doors and saw him sitting far on a white settee in the middle of the very huge sitting room. He looked at me from under the glass he was putting on.

"And you are?" He asked.

"Yvonne Candice." I replied.

"Please come in and take a seat while I tell my maid to get you something." He said and immediately his maid came by.

"Get her something to drink, what would you like?" He asked.

"Water would be fine." I replied.

"Oh okay. Go on ahead and get her some water to drink." He said to the maid and she left to do that.

"I can't seem to remember you."

"Why isn't that surprising?" I thought to myself.

I had to mentally remember that I had to be in his good books.

"I have been here with Liam once before and he introduced me to you as his girlfriend." I replied.

"Oh I see, you're the secretary that likes my son."

That hurt me. It sounded very condescending.

"Well, how can I help you?" He asked.

"I want to talk... to you." I said a bit hesitant.

"About?"

His gaze was really intimidating, but it was now or never.

"Liam...and I." I replied.

He scoffed arrogantly, "what about the both of you?"
