He frowns when I ask a question, looking disappointed. Maybe he hadn't heard me well, so I requested he remove the mask, rather he left, coming back with an old man who looked oddly familiar.
I felt happy when I saw the old man, almost like I wanted to hug him and cry. This strange feeling all confused me.
And when I asked who he was, he looked shocked, not disappointed, just surprised as he turned to the doctor.
"Do I need to ask you to explain or do you plan to be mute?" He harshly asked the doctor.
"Sorry Sir, no Sir, She might have post traumatic amnesia, an effect from the accident, we will run some tests on her, to check" The doctor explained.
At least I got a piece of information of why I was here. "What are you waiting for, why is she still here?" The old man barks. Even in his harsh voice, there was a bit of concern, he held his hand tightly to the back and his eyes were full with care as he looked at me again.
"Don't worry love, you will be better soon," He assured. He wanted to pat me, but I was covered in bandages. Thus, he withdrew his hands.
"Excuse me," I called out, when the doctor had left. "You still haven't told me who you are?" I reminded, the old man playfully hitting his head.
"I'm Mateo King and over here, is your husband, Michael King," He introduced. "Husband," I muttered, wondering how I ever got married to a man so handsome.
Before they could say anything else, the doctor returned and I was soon rolled away, leaving them in the room.
The environment suddenly becoming hostile with everyone shows how irritated and angry they are to treat me.
"This might hurt a..," she pauses. "Why am I even telling you this," She grumbled, proceeding to inject me with some liquid.
"Jay," the doctor called out. "What, isn't it true, why should I have told her, just when we finally thought she would die, she comes back alive," She snaps.
"Now King would have to bear till she died," She ranted. "Why didn't you just die?" She asked, directing the question to me. "Jay, get out," the doctor yelled, causing her to storm off.
"And I'm not supporting you, we all hate you, but she was being unprofessional about it," He explained, before continuing on with the test.
I don't remember much, I only woke up, finding myself back in the room, with Michael and the old man Mateo, standing at the window, keenly listening to what the doctor had to say.
As I stared, I wondered how bad I had treated him, to be hated, why were we still married.
"Was it the case of a one sided love, did he only love me and I treated him badly for that," I thought.
Soon, he had looked at me, our eyes catching for a blink second before I turned away, not wanting to see him.
"You are awake," He says as the door is locked. "I went to get you food but the hospital said you are already eating some rice porridge," He explained his absence.
I bite my lips, knowing the last part was a lie, I wasn't fed anything, at least not while I was awake and there is no way they wouldn't have fed me that I wouldn't have known.
The only conclusion here was they chose to starve me. "They said you ate a lot, it made me glad," He went, grabbing his chair and sitting close to me, forcing me to turn my face the other way, increasing the pressure on my lips to prevent crying in front of him.
"Is anything wrong?" He asked, now appearing in front, his hand firmly held my face, preventing me from changing direction.
"Luxury," He called out, his voice filled with authority. I couldn't keep it anymore, I found myself crying. "I hate it,' I cried out.
"I hate not remembering anything, I hate how I'm treated now, I can't tell why I'm being punished when I don't even know my crime,"
"Why does everyone hate me, why did they say I don't deserve to live and why, just why did you save me," I busted out, crying even more.
"Who hates you?" He softly questioned and I could sense the anger in his voice as he questioned me.
"If you don't answer, then I will bring every single person in this hospital and shoot them one by one, till either you or them talk," He threatened, his eyes darkened a bit.
"You can't do that now, can you?" I asked, a devilish grin played on his face when he heard that.
"Oh dear, he can and I will join him," The old man returned, looking pissed too. Sighing, I could only close my eyes, not wanting to say anything else.
I wanted to know what kind of person I was, I needed an answer not a threat. They should do whatever they like, I wasn't in the mood to feel threatened.
I heard him sighed afterwards and then his lips brushed against my forehead. "If it helps, you were and still are a good person and I was the asshole," He whispered, before I heard footsteps..
It didn't take less than an hour before I returned, with the nurses and the doctor attending to me. The only thing is, they were badly beating up, their face swollen badly and their body covered in their own blood.
"Go on," He growls at them. "We are really sorry, we won't do it again," They chorused.
I stared in awe, looking at them and then at Michael. "What, you dared me," He groaned, taking his seat.
"Oh and don't worry, they don't work here anymore," He added with a smirk, mumbling something to himself.
"Get out," He yelled at them, forcing them to rush out even though I could see the pain in their eyes as they struggled.
The room suddenly became awkwardly silent, as he proceeded to dish out my food on the plate..
I slowly inhaled the sweet aroma, smiling to myself as I finally got to eat. When I tried using my hands, he firmly held it down.
"Let's me," He offered. "Now listen to me because I will only say it once, it doesn't matter what they do or what they say, you should know these," he paused, looking intensely at me.
"One, I am your husband and two I would do anything and everything to protect you," He says, his eyes never leaving me one bit.
He was incredibly handsome, and the only imperfection he had was a scar, yet it completed his beauty.
How did I ever meet such a perfectly, gentle and loving husband?. "Now eat up," He commanded, shoving the food in my mouth once I opened up but then whipping the excess from my lips.
"What did I do to deserve such a caring husband?" I asked.
CHAPTER FOUR.
"I can't believe she is still her old self," Michael muttered, watching her from the other side of the glass.
For a while, their eyes met and to his surprise she smiled and waved at him. "Don't be deceived, if she is her old self, then she is definitely hiding her pain with her smile," Mr. Mateo muttered, hitting his grandson in his back.
"The doctor wants to see you," he informed Michael. "I thought you were to handle any doctor visit," He grumbled.
"It's important, besides you will just be leaving her for a while," He teased. Dragging Michael with him.
"Enough, I'm not your little grandson anymore," Michael breaks free, arranging himself, just before they get to the office.
Arranging his dress, his cold look immediately came back on as he barged in. He let his grandfather exchange greetings, however when he got too long, he cut them short.
"What was so important you needed me here?" His irritated tone was enough to break their conversation.
"We ran some tests and to which we discovered her being crippled is only for temporary while," he began.
His words excited Michael that he barely could keep his composure. "Do whatever it takes?" He agreed almost immediately.
"Wait boy, what type of treatment?" Mateo stepped in. "Returning to her memories, we noticed her legs moving just as she received flashes of her accident, " the doctor explained.
"So you are saying If she remembers now, then she can walk," Mateo quickly summarize.
"Doctor, she can't remember, she shouldn't be made to remember, not now, can we delay the process?" Mateo inquired, confusing both Michael and the doctor.
"But she would be able to walk," Michael slowly reminded his grandfather. "Doc, be a good lad and excuse me and my grandson," he instructed, waiting till the doctor was gone before glaring at the son.
"What good will her walking do for you or for us?" He snap. "If she remembers, everything, then the plans you have would be shattered. She told you didn't she?"
"You will ask for her forgiveness but she won't give you, do why stress?" He question.
"Listen to me," Mateo calms himself. "If she doesn't remember then you can rekindle that spark, she is going to leave you, she is going to hate you, for heaven sake, do you know the hell she pass through with you,"
"And I have watched the clip, the night of her accident, you killed her child, the only thing she held unto, we can't have her remember that," he explained.
"But her legs, she will desperately want to walk," Micheal brought up. "she won't want to, if you like her the way she is, beside I can find other means or better still, you will make her fall deeply in love with you, before we let her remember," Mateo listed.
"Now you can go and meet her, I will finish up with the doctor here," he urge, but pauses when he saw guilt rewritten all over Michael face.
"Come on boy, if you can heartlessly torture her, then you can heartlessly lie to her," he teased, pushing Michael out the door and ushering the doctor back in.
Michael step were heavy and he returns to the Luxury room. Her smile even shattered him and he could only keep a straight face while sitting close to her, noticing how happy she was, he calmly tap her head, directing it to his way.
"You seem happy today, care to share," he requested hoping to get a sense of relief from her.
"I heard from the doctor, that's there is a way I can walk," She brought, his face turning pale instantly.
"Yes, there is," he murmured. "You don't seem happy about it," she noticed. "Look, Luxury, I nearly lost you once and only then did I realized how important you are to me, however this procedure, I might lose you forever," He explained.
"So it's too dangerous to risk," she completed and he could only nod..
"I'm really sorry, it's all my fault, I place you in this mess, I was so," he paused, unable to complete his world.
"But I promise you, that I will find other methods, money won't be a barrier," he assured, his eyes staring into hers.
Why didn't he ever noticed her big blue eyes that looks just like the peaceful sky.
She was beautiful, effortlessly beautiful even without make up, although bruise, her skin was still milky and smooth. Her face so soft to touch, he felt tempted to pull her cheek.
"Huh," she pauses, her words got his to divert from her looks and now at her words.
He could tell she was sad about this and yet was hiding it from him, her pain hurts him.
He wanted to fulfil all she wanted but now, what she wanted wasn't impossible. "Can at least know why I got into an accident?" She asked.
"You two had an argument," Mateo step in. "You were always right about his secretary wanting to seduce him and that night you got feed up and was heading to my place," He began, gaining Luxury attention.
"You left his territory not fully guarded and his rival decided to hurt what he loved most," he concluded.
"He was a fool to let you go, to let his anger get the best of him," he went on as Michael stood up for his grandfather to seat.
Michael stood amaze by his father acting skills but couldn't utter anything. "He doesn't look like one, in fact I feel lucky to be giving a second chance with him," Luxury finally spoke out, defending Michael.
"Michael is sweet, warm and kind and extra bonus, handsome," she chuckled, causing Mateo to laugh too.
"I'm sure there was other ways I could have told him, my past self seemed reckless,"
"Enough," Michael chipped in, her words only choked him the more. "But it's true, I feel safe with you and I feel lucky to have you, if you don't want me to go through this procedure, then I promise, I won't," she assured, getting both of them to look at her.
Mateo smile, predicting her words already, while to Michael, he carried a heavy burden he is tasked with. By keeping the truth alway from her.
