Chapter 3 Cold welcome

Chapter three

"Mrs. Lee, it's been quite some time," Mr. Jennings said gently, his voice carrying a hint of sympathy.

Sarah looked up at him, her eyes widening with surprise. She hadn't expected the lawyer to remember her, let alone address her with that name.

Sarah's expression turned cold as she gave the lawyer a sideways glance. "And why, may I ask, are you here?" she demanded, her tone laced with suspicion.

"What business does the Lee family have with us after all these years?"

Mr. Jennings met her gaze evenly, unfazed by her hostility. "I'm here to fulfill Mr. Lee's wishes, Mrs. Lee," he replied calmly. "And to ensure that Sebastian is aware of his rightful inheritance."

Sarah sat up as she let out a small cough, her lips twisting into a sneer. "Inheritance?" she scoffed. "We don't need their charity. We've managed just fine without it."

The lawyer's expression softened, his tone gentle but firm. "It's not charity, Mrs. Lee," he explained. "It's Sebastian's birthright. And he deserves to know the truth about his family.

Sarah's eyes flashed with anger as she turned to face Sebastian. "Why haven't I told him the truth?" she repeated, her voice trembling with emotion. "Because I wanted to protect him. I wanted to shield him from the pain and disappointment of knowing the truth about my past."

Sebastian's eyes widened in shock as her words sank in. He had never suspected that his mother was keeping such a monumental secret from him all these years.

"But why?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why keep it a secret for so long?"

Sarah's shoulders slumped, her eyes filling with tears. "Because I was scared, Sebastian," she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "Scared of what it would mean for you to know the truth. Scared of losing you

Mr. Jennings watched the exchange silently, his heart heavy with sympathy for the family before him. He knew that the truth would be painful for them to hear, but he also knew that it was necessary for their future.

"Mrs. Lee," he said gently, "I understand your concerns. But Sebastian has a right to know the truth about his family, no matter how painful it may be."

Sarah turned away, her face contorted with anguish. "I know," she whispered. "But I just... I couldn't bring myself to tell him."

Mr. Jennings nodded sympathetically, his gaze softening. "It's never easy to confront the truth, Mrs. Lee," he said. "But I believe that Sebastian is strong enough to handle it. And with your love and support, he'll get through this."

"Hold on can someone tell me what's going here because its not funny anymore."

Mr. Jennings turned his attention back to Sebastian, his expression gentle but serious.

"Sebastian, I need to tell you something important," he began. "You have a twin brother named Alex. You were separated at birth because your deceased grandfather did not approve of your mother."

Sebastian's eyes widened in disbelief as he processed the lawyer's words. A twin brother? Separated because of their grandfather's disapproval? It was almost too much to comprehend.

"A twin brother?" Sebastian repeated, his voice barely a whisper. "I... I had no idea."

Mr. Jennings nodded solemnly. "Yes, Alex is your twin brother," he confirmed. "And he has been raised in a very different environment from yours, as an heir to the Lee family fortune."

Sebastian felt a whirlwind of emotions surging inside him. Anger, confusion, and a profound sense of loss battled for dominance as he tried to make sense of the revelation.

"But why?" he asked, his voice tinged with frustration. "Why would my grandfather do that? Why would he separate us?"

The lawyer's gaze softened, his tone gentle as he replied. "Your grandfather had his reasons, Sebastian, misguided as they may have been. But now that he's gone, and it was in his will for you and Alex to be reunited."

Sebastian turned to his mother, searching her eyes for confirmation. Sarah met his gaze with a heavy heart, her eyes filled with sorrow and regret.

"Is it true, Mom?" Sebastian asked, his voice trembling with emotion.

Sarah nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, Sebastian, it's true," she confirmed, tears welling up in her eyes. "You have a twin brother named Alex, and your grandfather separated you because he didn't approve of me."

Sebastian's heart sank at his mother's words, the truth of their family's history hitting him like a ton of bricks. He felt a surge of anger and sadness wash over him, but beneath it all, there was a flicker of hope. Hope that he could finally reunite with his long-lost brother and piece together the truth about their past.

The lawyer, Mr. Jennings, watched the exchange with a solemn expression, his heart going out to the mother and son before him.

"Sebastian, Mrs. Lee," he said gently, breaking the silence. "I understand that this is a lot to process, but I believe it's time for you to meet Alex and begin to heal the wounds of the past."

Sarah took a deep breath, her resolve firming as she looked at Sebastian and Mr. Jennings.

"Can I come with you to see my boy Alex?" she asked, her voice filled with longing.

Sebastian had nothing to say as he was still in surprise, he didn't know whether to be happy about this news or to be sad.

Mr. Jennings nodded. "Absolutely, Mrs. Lee," he said kindly. "We would be honored to have you join us."

As they made their way to the waiting car, Sarah's heart raced with anticipation. She couldn't believe that after all this time, she was finally going to see her son again.

Sebastian opened the car door and helped his mother inside, carefully settling her into the plush leather seat. Mr. Jennings climbed in beside her, his gaze filled with sympathy and understanding.

Together, they helped Sarah to her feet, Sebastian supporting her on one side while Mr. Jennings took the other. She leaned heavily on them, her strength waning but her determination unwavering.

With that, they set off towards the Lee mansion, the car gliding smoothly through the streets of the city

The journey to the mansion was smooth and short, the car gliding effortlessly through the streets until they arrived at their destination. Sebastian's heart raced with anticipation as they pulled up to the imposing gates of the Lee mansion.

As they stepped out of the car, they were greeted by a pair of maids, dressed impeccably in their uniforms. The maids bowed respectfully as Sebastian and his mother approached, their faces filled with warmth and hospitality.

"Welcome to the Lee mansion, Mr. Lee," one of the maids said, her voice soft and welcoming.

Alex sat in his spacious room, the phone pressed to his ear as he spoke to his fiancee. He listened attentively as she spoke, a smile playing on his lips as they discussed her upcoming visit to town.

"That sounds perfect," Alex said, his voice filled with warmth. "I can't wait to see you. It's been too long."

As they continued their conversation, a gentle knock interrupted them. Alex glanced towards the door as a maid entered, her expression respectful but urgent.

"Master Alex," the maid began, her voice barely above a whisper. "Your brother, Sebastian, has arrived."

Hearing the news that his twin brother, Sebastian, had arrived, Alex's heart raced with excitement and anticipation. Without hesitation, he ended the call with his fiancée, his mind consumed with thoughts of finally meeting the brother he had never known.

Quickly, Alex made his way downstairs, his steps echoing through the grand hallway of the mansion. Every step felt like an eternity as he moved with a sense of urgency, eager to lay eyes on Sebastian for the first time.

As he reached the drawing-room, Alex paused for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady his nerves. Then, with a determined resolve, he pushed the door open and stepped inside.

And there, standing in the center of the room, was Sebastian and his mother.

As Alex set his eyes on his brother, he couldn't help but scrutinize him from head to toe. They looked exactly identical, mirroring each other in a way that sent shivers down Alex's spine. Every detail, from their features to their mannerisms, seemed to match perfectly.

Sebastian stunned as it was like he was starring at the mirror.

But as Alex's gaze shifted to their mother, a surge of anger and disgust washed over him like a tidal wave. He saw her standing there, her eyes filled with tears of joy at the reunion of her sons, and he felt a bitter resentment welling up inside him.

As Sarah slowly approached Alex, her heart heavy with sorrow and regret, she reached out to him with a trembling hand. "My sweet boy, it's been so long," she said softly, her voice filled with longing. "Look how you have grown."

But before she could fully touch his cheek, Alex jerked away, his eyes burning with anger and betrayal. He recoiled from her touch as if it were poison, his voice dripping with bitterness.

"My mother is dead to me," he spat out the words, his tone laced with venom.
