Chapter 5 APPROACHING SHADOWS

Abigail couldn't get what her grandfather said out of her mind. if felt like her entire future has already been planned out for her which was not something she was particularly excited about.

She would be going to an unknown place under the care of a total stranger whom she has never met before.

She could barely focus on the work she was doing. All day Abigail couldn't stop thinking about it. It was difficult yet she tried to decipher what hr future would be like but couldn't get a full picture.

Later that night in another location , the atmosphere around this particular mansion was eerie. The surrounding area was quiet. The night was cold, breeze carrying unheard whispers.

Inside the mansion, while a few maids ran here and there, two people stood by the railing above. They watched as the maids all walked in alarm. They weren't lot as some were already in their room.

" this night is going to be a long one."

Skyler casually smoked a cigarette, clearly unbothered. He didn't respond to the other man's words prompting him to continue " I can smell the blood in the air."

"he's gone berserk."

"you make it sound like it's not a common occurrence." Mathias crook. the man who was speaking to Skylar said. He was an old man with a thin white mustache. There were evident grey hairs on his head and some wrinkles on his face.

"tonight feels different." Skyler took a puff of his cigarette. By this time,the floor below was cleared but the unnerving atmosphere remained. Surprisingly though, Skyler wasn't even affected in the slightest.

Mathias sighed " where were you all day?"

" simply to carry out a task." he turned around to walk away from there then added " we might have a guest tomorrow.

"and who would that be?" but Skyler didn't respond. He simply disappeared out of sight.

He walked across the corridor, his footsteps steady with his hands tucked into his pockets. He picked up the faint metallic smell in the air and exhaled sharply. The further he walked, the darker the corridor became.

Skyler halted in front of a double door that was slightly ajar. He walked in pushing the door open only to stop after taking a fee steps.

It was dimly lit , one could injure themselves if they weren't careful but that wasn't what made him halt in his tracks.

There was a figure that was completely engulfed in the dark as he blended with the shadows. He sat leisurely on his red chair, relaxed. It was hard to see his face as he threw his head back but with the little amount of light, one could see the blood that trailed down his fingers.

On the ground was a particular woman who groaned in pain , blood stained the smooth marble floor and there was a trail of lifeless bodies around. This only proves that he has been on a rampage.

The scenery only gave off a eerie atmosphere yet Skyler didn't seem to be affected by it.

He casually walked forward giving not a second glance to the people on the floor " you are being wasteful, aren't you satisfied after Having one?"

"I need more, its not enough." the man said, his voice coming out low as he grinned. He leaned forward letting the light cast on his handsome face with his red eyes in full view "it's not something you can provide can you?"

"p-please help me." the woman who happened to be someone who stumbled upon this certain predicament begged Skyler who looked like a ray of hope or so she thought.

Skyler completely ignored the woman, this wasn't something he's supposed to interfere with. He had his own priority.

Wrapping his hand around the woman's neck, he brought her close to him with ease. His canines emerged and one could see the malice in his eyes like he was enjoying every moment. Without warning, he sunk his teeth into the woman's neck, draining every last bit of blood in her.

" I've done what you asked, latest due would be tomorrow but what do you plan to do afterwards?" Skyler spoke, he didn't react to the scene before him. His Stoic expression remaining unchanged.

Abigail placed her hand on her chest, feeling her breathing turn shallow "mummy!" she sobbed her eyes fixed on the man that's about to kill her off.

Just when he was about to reach her , she found her legs moving on its own, racing towards the door to escape "help." she cried out running into the street and straight into the forest.

As she ran for her life, she cried uncontrollably, the image of her mum looming over her face. She knew she had to keep running, that man wasn't going to let her off. No keep running, don't stop , don't stop running.

Abigail ran as fast her legs could carry her ,her limps hurt but she could barely feel anything.

" that's a very wasteful approach." she heard a deep voice talk.

Following the loud ringing of the alarm, Abigail gasp awake. She frantically looked around the room as if searching for something and immediately jumped out of her bed and out of her room.

"Grandpa!"

She opened the door to the old man's room, stopping just by the entrance. For some strange reason, she didn't feel good .

"good morning... grandpa." she walked in but the old man didn't respond " grandpa, I would making breakfast what would you like?" she smiled whilst nearing the bed.

Looking down at the old man. whose eyes were opened but he wasn't responding. Abigail couldn't see any life in them .

With her hands shaky,she reached out and touched his face "grandpa." a tear slipped from her eyes. She knew this was bound to happen but why did it hurt so much.

"you don't have to worry about me but it doesn't mean you can just leave grandpa." she sobbed . Her legs gave out and she fell to the floor while sobbing uncontrollably.

There were somethings that's just out of anyone's control but at the moment there was nothing else on Abigail's mind except for the grief she's experiencing
