Chapter 4 REVELATION

,"what an unexpected visit." the old man said,his voice came out weak as he glanced at the man who stood beside his bed.

" you've grown weak." Skyler pointed out but not out of concern but that of observation.

" I am getting old." the old man agreed.

"did you tell the girl?" Skyler inquired.

"no."

"I see." Skyler looked around the old room, it was decent and things were not out of place. The old man then brought his attention back to him " why are you here?"

" from what I could calculate, it's most likely would happen today or tomorrow morning, death isn't something you can avoid. you did well."

"and...what if I change my mind?" the old man asked weakly.

A slow smile graced his lips as Skyler replied " you know what's going to happen."he neared the bed then clicked his tongue " you've grown attached . She was never your grand daughter to begin with,do not worry I'm just here to do my job of retrieving what's his."

"he won't harm her?" the old man asked as if seeking clarity.

"well he gave her to you in the first place." Skyler cocked his head to the side.

"well we both know how twisted he is." the old man remarked closing his eyes briefly only to open them. There was silence.

"I guess the time has come."

Skyler let out a small chuckle " the next time I'll be visiting would be to take her." with that he left the room. Walking through the front door, he came out of the house stopping briefly only to see Abigail heading his way. Their gazes met and she looked surprised to see him, none of them said anything and he could see the question dancing in her eyes.

Skyler simply left the place without exchanging any words with her.

Abigail felt alarmed, that was the same man she had encountered a few minutes ago and wasn't her front door locked, how on earth...? did he break in?

The strange man didn't bother to spare her a second glance as he made his way towards his expensive motorcycle.

Feeling herr heart about to leap out of her chest, Abigail dashed towards her front door. It was indeed opened.

"grandpa!"she yelled while going up to his room praying in her mind that nothing unthinkable has happened because if that was the case the strange man would pay for it.

"grandpa." Abigail opened the door , sighing in relief once she saw the old man laying in his usual position.

"are you alright?" she questioned with a worried look, coming to sit down beside him.

The old man replied weakly " why would you think I'm not?"

She felt a wave of relief wash over her but that wave of relief disappeared as soon as it came " was someone in here?"

"hm?" he sounded confused.

Without bothering to wait for him to continue or ask her she quickly said " a strange man broke into this house,i don't know what he wants but he might have stole something. It's better to call the police to ensure..."

" so you saw that man leave the house?"

"yes." Abigail nodded affirmatively then asked " do you know him grandfather?"

"yes?"

Her brows furrowed feeling the confusion rising " I saw him earlier today but what does he want with you ? with us?"

The old man took another seconds to reply " you've wanted to live your life normally but always felt the pressure of taking care of me and yourself but no managing to do both. I have given you nothing but suffering. I made the wrong decisions and Left us in debt and because of that you are left to take care of me while disregarding your needs but when I'm gone you won't be homeless that I can guarantee."

Abigail shook her head " what are you saying?"

" I failed to leave you with anything useful. That man you just saw would take you to your new home and you would be taken care of."

"you are sending me away."

"that is where you should have been a long time ago, I inadvertently delayed it but believe me everything would be alright. You'll get accustomed and maybe discover a few new things."

A tear slipped from the corner of her eyes,she was welled up with emotions. Sooner or later, her grandfather was bound to leave her and she would have nowhere else to go. This house they lived in would soon go into the hands of the loan sharks and she has no intentions of working for them and doing their dirty business.

"but grandpa..."

"someone else would take care of you, this was something I had arranged for a long time ago."

Abigail was at loss for words. Trying very hard to process everything she had just heard. It somewhat dawned on her that maybe her grandfather had made some type of deal with someone but was her being an exchange for his debt? perhaps this person wasn't one of the loan sharks,her grandfather wouldn't send her to just anybody, right?
