Chapter 5 5.

- POV LAYLA

I wake up to the first rays of sunlight coming through my curtains.

I look at the alarm clock and it's six in the morning. I get up and drag my body to the bathroom, ignoring the headache I'm feeling.

The power of tequila.

After a shower, I put on a long light blue dress and brown boots.

I blow-dry my hair and leave it loose.

eyeliner, and finally I finish with cocoa butter.

I go downstairs and find Dad and Antonela in the kitchen.

"Good morning daughter!"

"Good morning, Dad!"

"Good morning Layla, where's Malu? She hasn't come down yet."

Damn! Luiza probably hasn't come down from the Caccini house yet.

I need to go there, but first I have to come up with a good excuse.

"Oh, she left early."

"What a rush, huh?" The python spews its venom, I take a deep breath and gather all my self-control not to throw a cup in its cynical face.

"Yes! We had an assignment at a school friend's house, I'm even going. Oh, Antonella, I'm going to take your car, do you mind?" I ask, keeping my face closed, but inside I'm smiling victoriously, in front of my father she pretends to be modest and that she likes us.

We got into an argument with this woman because of the days Dad traveled here and left us with her.

Cinderella didn't work anywhere near as hard as I did for this cow, and whenever she had the chance she would tell my sister that she was an orphan who hadn't had time to get to know her mother and that if she had, she would have died of heartbreak.

"Of course, darling, just be careful," he said between his teeth and I forced a smile, went out to the garage, got in my car, and headed for Caccini Vill.

Even though someone's window was opposite mine, the road to their house was long, so I had to use the car.

...

I park the car and notice how beautiful the house is in the daytime, the ice-white and gray colors suit it.

The Caccini's farm is very much like those houses in the movies where the horses steal the show, even the farm where the mare from my favorite movie (Flicka) lived, I remember the synopsis as if it were yesterday, it's amazing...

Contrary to her father's wishes, who wants to see her finish school, Katy prefers to work at the family stud farm. To prove her willingness, Katy decides she's going to tame a wild mare found in the mountains, until tragedy strikes, and overcoming it will depend on the family's unity and love.

Aaaa, I miss watching this movie with Dad and Luiza.

I ignore my nostalgia and enter the large house in front of me, the furniture is very beautiful, I hadn't noticed it yesterday because I was so drunk.

And no, I was still too stunned by the scene I'd seen.

I meet a gentleman in the living room.

"Hello, good morning, I'm sorry to barge in like this, but I'm looking for my sister, she stayed here with Thomas.

He looks at me sympathetically.

"Hi, my name is Marco, I'm the caretaker, and I work here. You must be talking about the girl who just went out riding with Mr. Thom."

"oh yes, will they be long?"

"I don't think so! Would you like to wait?"

"Yes, if you don't mind."

"Of course not young lady, just forgive my absence, I won't be able to stay to keep you company, I have a very busy day at the farm." He said and I liked his accent.

"It's okay, you can go, I'll wait for my sister here."

"Thank you, good morning young lady."

"Good morning Marco!"

I say and see him heading towards what I think is a stable.

I look around and realize that, just like my father's house, this one is also conservative, but it has its charm.

I was lost in my daydreams and was surprised to notice Maya staring at me.

Shit, she's still here, but what the hell is she still doing here?

"What are you doing here?" she asks.

"As far as I know, you're not the owner! So it's none of your business," I say.

I turn to look at the house's beautiful garden and am surprised by a deep and, believe me, sexy voice.

"But it's mine, so you'd better tell me what you're doing on my property?"

I turn my face to face the person and swallow as I realize who it is.

The same man who... pushed her against the wall, and now I can see his face, and I'd be lying if I said he was ugly.

Yet all that beauty is hidden beneath the arrogant carcass.

Maya flashes a smug smile because, of course, this is the boy Katherine talked about on the first day of school.

You shall not covet your neighbor's man, but she's nothing to me, so it's okay to admire her a little.

I shake my head in the negative.

Not that I haven't seen handsome men before, I've seen several, but this one looks rough and crude, a jerk and an idiot, he fits the profile of a man Maya would get involved with, so even though he's handsome, I'm not interested, and between you and me, this man wouldn't look at me if I were the last woman on the face of the earth.

"Are you deaf or what?" he shouts and I sigh.

If that's how he treats his guests, I'd rather never come here again. I stop myself from telling the owner of the house to fuck off, stare into his eyes and finally respond as he deserves.
