Chapter 4 NORA AND JUNE'S ATTRACTION

June, arrived at the hospital to balance up for Nora's treatment bill, having sold his bicycle. "Wow! good to see you, its so good to have you alive" June excited to see Nora awake, "you are most thanked, I was told you brought me here. Thank you" Nora appreciated June, "you look familiar though" Nora continued, facing June's direction. "Really, could we have met before?, i cant place the face right now, help me" June pressed for a conversation.

"I can remember you clearly, in high school, you were almost every teacher's favorite, I am Nora, that little quiet girl you rescued from some bully: behind the school's conference hall" Nora narrated trying to remind June of their first meeting. "Oh! Oh! that petite harmless girl?, I can remember. You had asthma attack then and I had to rush you to the clinic,... Opps! I'm sorry, my bad. I shouldn't have described you that way. I remember now" June explained recollecting the event. " you are so grown and beautiful now. How is your health now generally?". June inquired, "oh, yea sure, thanks to growth, I'm doing good now. I owe you two now. You are always at my rescue, I should call you my saviour, because its funny how our paths keep crossing on two occasions at my vulnerable moments. I will be forever grateful" Nora gratefully gave compliments and appreciated June for the two occasions he had rescued her from life threatening situations "what can I do? Let's just say its fate, we grow by lifting others" June added "you know, you should meet my parents, that's one of my mother's favorite slogan quotes " we grow by lifting others". Nora agreed and suggested that June should meet her parents someday. Now its been three days since Nora had being in between life and death, both the Andersons and Williams had been searching for her. "June please can I have a word with you in private" Kate requested to see June "its okay, Nora I'm coming, just a minute" June excused himself and went into the doctor's office with Kate. "Good day Mr. Maxwell June, you may have a seat please" the doctor greeted June as he offered him a seat. "You asked to see me sir" June said. "Yes, I am doctor Kass, I and Kate have been handling Nora's case since you brought her here. I must say congratulations to you and to us for her quick recovery, but there are some specialty and peculiarity associated with her state of health right now. Firstly". The doctor continued "she has fluctuating amnesia. Like I said its a rare and peculiar situation, it often occur when there is partial interruption in the air flow to the brain. This happens when there has been a damage or sudden blow dealt to the skull. So for now she is experiencing partial memory loss. She can remember things or events from her childhood or events that happened up to two years ago, also she can remember things that happened from the time she woke up from coma. But right now events that happened two years ago up until the time of her incident she may not be able to remember". The doctor gave details of Nora's Present health status to June being the only person responsible for her treatment. "So doctor for how long would she go through this?" June asked "there is no specific time frame. however, if she is kept around what makes her happy and people that gives her care, she might recover her memories fast. And ensure she takes her drugs frequently as prescribed, not missing her appointments here twice a month for her follow up. I forgot to mention that she was seven weeks pregnant before she lost her baby to the event that happened to her. Here are the appropriate inhalers for her kind of asthma. Please keep her away from stress" The doctor detailed further on Nora's fragile health and handed over her drugs and inhaler to June "thank you doctor, Miss Kate, thank you so much, here is the balance for her treatment and other bills" June appreciated nurse Kate and doctor Kass for their humanitarian gesture "how long more before she would be discharged" June asked "say tomorrow as soon as she is cleared at the reception she will be fit to go home" Dr. Kass replied seeing June off out of his office and offer an handshake. So Kate and June returned to the ward where Nora was after paying the balance at the cashier's desk. Nora felt alive and healthy, she was watching the news from where she sat on her bed while Kate and June joined her. June was puzzled having heard all that Dr. Kass had detailed about Nora's condition especially the memory loss part. "He said partial or is it fluctuating amnesia? It can't be, let me find out" June thought to himself and decided to test Nora if she actually now have a memory loss. "Nora how are you feeling now?" June asked facing Nora "I'm great, I'm good, I'm well and happy, courtesy you" Nora replied excitedly. "The Doctor said you will be discharged tomorrow, so I will need you to write your home address, so I can take you home as soon as you are discharged" June asked looking at Nora keenly. "ok, i think its...ehm, ehm, oh my God, ehmm,.. I can't remember" Nora replied after struggling to describe her address but couldn't. June was disappointed and worried, "where do I take this girl when she is discharged tomorrow?" June thought in his mind. "Can you dial your parent's number here?" June asked stretching his phone to Nora on her bed. Nora collected his phone and struggled to remember her parent's number but unfortunately she couldn't remember a digit. "I can't remember anything, but I can remember my name and high school days" Nora lamented as tears rolls down her cheeks "am I sick?" Nora asked as she broke down in tears. June quickly rushed to her side patting her with one hand on her back and wiping her tears with the other. He rested her head on his chest and stroke her back with his hand calming and petting Nora. "Its fine, you are not sick, you are perfectly fine" June assured Nora with kind words and teary eyes. Nora resting her cheek on June's chest while June pats her back, felt the warmth and affection. She felt relieved by those kind words from June and held him tightly with her two arms around his ribs. June felt the chemistry and hugged Nora tightly. Nora feel confident and safe. She raised her head from June's chest to look at him in the eyes. June also maintained a eye contact with Nora "I will go home with you when I'm discharged" Nora spoke softly like a child requesting iced-cream from her father. June couldn't object. The affection was strong and almost developing into a bond "but its risky, your parents will be looking for you. More so I stay with my mother and two sisters, it won't be convenient for you. We manage a two rooms apartment, where would you stay" June tried to convince Nora otherwise. "I will manage, wherever you stay, I will manage" Nora replied June not minding where he lives. She was bent on going with June. Kate couldn't hold her jealously seeing June and Nora's position. She excused herself leaving both of them alone. It was obvious Kate is beginning to like June. June also stepped out to get Nora what she would eat before he returned home. June got home, its was in the evening. He met his mother and Jane his younger oldest sister doing house chores. The last born had slept off. "June I got a mail from the college..my registration commences in a week time" Jane excitedly informed June. June knew what that meant.. Its about money. "Okay Jane let's talk about it later, I have something to tell you guys" June sat up calling his mother and sister's attention. June got their attention and decided to keep them in the know about what he had been going through since three days. "Why did you wait till now to inform us?" June's mother asked. "I wasn't sure and I didnt want to bother you guys i'm sorry" June pleaded. "I hope this your kindness won't get you into trouble someday, you behave like your father be careful" June's mother warned him. "So what about my tuition fee you promised?" Jane asked "Nothing to worry about, you will pay, its a week time right? Relax" June assured Jane of her college tuition fee as he went inside to sleep. "Won't you eat dinner?" June's mother asked. "I'm not hungry, i'll be fine" June replied and slept off.
