"Watch where you're going, faggot," the redhead responds with disdain in her voice as she looks at my friend with an air of superiority. Bryan quickly loses his smile and becomes embarrassed.
What did this unbearable girl call my friend?
"What did you call my friend?" I ask through gritted teeth, approaching Raven Scott, the most disgusting and unfriendly girl in college. I'm not exaggerating, this redhead is the most fake girl I've ever met, nobody can stand her except for her "friends," who are just as despicable as she is.
"Faggot," she says again slowly, the disgust in her voice evident. "Didn't you understand? Do you want me to repeat it?" She gets closer to me and gives me a fake smile.
I shake my head negatively while smiling disdainfully, not believing what I'm hearing.
"Girl, you better apologize to my friend before things get worse," I rudely threaten, pointing my finger at Bryan, who is visibly scared as he looks back and forth between us.
"Meg, let's go," he pleads weakly, touching my arm.
"No, Bryan, first I'm going to put this girl in her place, because no one is better than anyone," I comment, making the redhead laugh in my face, making me even angrier.
"You're going to put me in my place? Spare me," she mocks, looking me up and down with her light brown eyes. "You better disappear from here before I lose my patience. You and that faggot don't belong here." She looks at us with disdain and curls her red-painted lips into a malicious smile.
"If you say that again, I'll give you what you deserve, you homophobic bitch!" I exclaim angrily, getting closer to Raven, but she smiles cynically as if to say: I'm not afraid of you.
"Are you forgetting who I am or who my family is, dear?" She arrogantly questions, with her face very close to mine. "I can destroy your little life." She winks at me.
I cross my arms, holding back from laughing at her. I'm not afraid of her, so I respond ironically:
"I'm terrified!" I put my hands on my face, pretending to be terrified, and she immediately scowls. I bring my face close to hers in an intimidating way and add: "I'm not afraid of you or your shitty family."
"Do not test me, you have no idea what I'm capable of," she responds curtly, trying to intimidate me, and I just smile sarcastically.
"Meg, let's go, please," I hear Bryan's voice and feel him pulling me by the arm, making me look at him, and I see his sad expression with pleading eyes, begging us to leave. I look away from him and observe the small crowd around us, paying attention to everything. I sigh and turn back to the redhead, and I coldly threaten her:
"You better stay far away from my friend, or I'll end you." In response, she bursts into hysterical laughter.
I turn to my friend, who pulls me to leave, but before we go, Raven provokes:
"Leaving already? I thought you were braver, but apparently, you're a coward. You never knew how to defend yourself in school, that's why Mandyson was always fighting for you. You've always been and always will be a coward." Mandy had this habit of fighting for me, but I started fighting for myself so she wouldn't get involved. I'd rather get hurt than see her hurt.
I was already angry before, but hearing Mandyson's name doubled my fury. I pull my arm from Bryan's hand and turn to the redhead with a cynical smile on my face. The little bit of alcohol in my blood, combined with my anger, prevents me from thinking clearly, and before I know it, I'm taking big steps towards Raven, who changed her expression to one of fear when she saw me so close. I deliver a strong slap to her face, making her take a step back and place her hand on the spot I hit, looking at me in horror.
You didn't expect that, did you, darling?
"If you mention my sister's name one more time, I'll do worse," I shout angrily, pointing my finger in her face.
"You're crazy!" she asserts furiously. "I'll ruin your shitty little life," she adds.
"Go ahead," I encourage her.
"Right now, I'm going to call the police and report you for assault. Everyone here saw what you did and can testify," she arrogantly replies, pulling her phone out of her pocket.
"Go ahead, report me for assault, and I'll report you for homophobia," I say. She quickly stops typing on her phone and looks at me in horror. "I can't believe you don't know that homophobia is a crime. Get with the times, darling," I add sarcastically, coldly laughing at the expression on her face. I get even closer to her and whisper in her ear, "I know your dirty little secrets. I know that you and Professor Edward are having an affair, which is why you always get an A in his class. I also know that your father pays for you to have certain privileges here. So it's better for you to stay away from my friend and forget everything that happened here, or would you prefer to see your perfect record tarnished with accusations of homophobia and being involved with your teacher?"
I step back from the redhead and am pleased to see that she's paler than usual, with wide brown eyes. It means she's afraid of her secrets being exposed. Secrets that I accidentally discovered. I had an economics class with Professor Edward and left my phone in the room. When I went back to get it, I accidentally caught the professor and Raven fooling around. As for the other part, Bryan found out, and I don't know how.
"You know what? I'll forget everything that happened here. I won't call the police. I'm not a vengeful person," she quickly comments, putting her phone away.
Good girl.
"That's better. It's not good to hold grudges against anyone. That's why I apologize for the slap, and I actually think you should apologize to Bryan," I smile falsely at her and pull my friend into a hug, placing my arms around his shoulders.
She discreetly huffs and makes a more fake expression of remorse than I've ever seen before, and then she says, "I'm sorry, Bryan. I shouldn't have said that." Without another word, she turns around with her friends and walks away from us, and the small crowd that was around us quickly disperses. However, the principal suddenly appears, stopping Raven and having a quick conversation with her.
She nods frantically, and the principal turns towards me, ignoring the redhead, and walks towards me. Over his shoulder, I see Raven smiling devilishly at me and then waving goodbye, swaying her hips as she walks away.
Damn it!
"Meg, I need to talk to you. I witnessed what happened here. Please come with me," the principal says as soon as he stops in front of me. From his expression, I can tell that the conversation won't be pleasant. I simply nod in agreement and turn to Bryan.
"You don't have to wait for me," I say sweetly, touching his shoulder.
"Meg, I'd rather go home. I need to be alone. Is that okay with you?" I hear melancholy in his voice, indicating that he's not doing well.
"Of course, if you need anything, just call or text me. Take care of yourself and get some rest," I smile warmly at him. Shortly after, Bryan walks away with his head down, getting farther and farther from me. I sigh, watching him go.
Bryan doesn't deserve to go through this.
"Let's go, miss," the man next to me interrupts my thoughts, and I follow him to his office.
