I'm still excited for them to come back because of the last conversation between the three of us. I almost couldn't sleep waiting for them but this is the only thing that will happen the next day.
Knowing that my beloved mother and father are gone. It was really painful to leave them both. Because I didn't prepare for it. I thought it would be a long time before they left me.
I took a deep breath again and looked around. The people who attended Mama and Papa's funeral were all dressed in black. Sadness, pity and sympathy for me can be seen on their faces.
Bad weather is coming, the clouds are dark and heavy rain is coming. The wind is cool and it dances with the leaves of the trees.
I could hear the crying of our housemates who fell in love with our family but I kept a blank expression and did not cry. I did not show any sadness and division. Even inside, my heart is breaking too much.
It hurts to lose them, because you'll wake up one morning and you won't be able to see the people who are important to you and the ones you love the most. This is what it really feels like to lose a loved one in life. But we can do nothing but accept the fate that has been given to them. That's all they are up to.
I didn't move when I saw the white coffin slowly descend. It is full of flowers.
"Miss Lorainne?" Ate Lessa called me. She is my personal maid, but her job is easy. Just take care of me. We are ten years apart from each other. "You alright?" he asked.
"You will not be well when you are in this situation, Ate Lessa. Yes, you will receive it one day but first you will go through sadness, hardship and grief. But will you be able to face tomorrow when your parents are no longer with you? This is our life, Sister. Full of surprises," I promised and smiled bitterly.
Our family is rich. We have lands in the province and I have a shop here in Manila. But I'm still studying and in my third year of college. I preferred the course that I thought I could use for something one day.
"Miss?" he called me again.
"Go home first, Sister Lessa."
"But Señorita? Heavy rain is coming. Where else are you going?" he asked worriedly.
I turned to him and smiled lightly. "Let's go," I said and he breathed a sigh of relief. Because I'm coming and I won't be left here any longer.
He immediately prepared our umbrella and then we started walking and just as we were in front of our car a man approached us. He was also holding an umbrella because it was starting to mist.
"Who are you?" Ate Lessa asked the man.
"I am Atty. Franklin, Señorita Lorainne. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you now when your parents are about to be buried. But Sir Angeles asked me not to postpone his last will," he said.
"But, Attorney. You can talk to our lady tomorrow," Ate Lessa told them.
"I'm with someone your father trusts, Señorita," he insisted and I took a deep breath.
"If that's the case. You just follow us and we'll talk at the mansion," I said to which he nodded and we finally got into the car.
I looked out of the window because I could see the darkness around me because the rain was still falling and it was still very strong.
I also see a Hummer vehicle following us. I knew it was Attorney Franklin's car. But the only thing I wonder is why is his car like that? Is that the kind of car that guys his age want?
In the middle of our trip, the car suddenly stopped and my head hit the windshield. I rubbed it gently. It doesn't hurt, but we are people like this, who still need to touch and caress something that doesn't really hurt, right?
"Mr Nelo? What's going on?" Ate Lessa asked and I sat up straight.
"Lessa, I'm sorry Señorita. It's only increased because the flood here is sudden and it's difficult for our car to pass," he said with difficulty.
In this situation we will be lucky?
"What are we going to do so we can leave immediately?" I asked calmly.
"There is another way but it will take us a long time and I know you are tired. But it will take a long time for this car to work again because it seems that the floodwaters entered." I was about to answer when someone knocked on Mang Nelo's window. He opened the door even though it was raining heavily. I did not hear the two of them talking. But soon they were finished. "Señorita, you can switch cars to Attorney Franklin so that you don't have to wait too long here."
I looked at the Hummer that stopped behind us. "Are you with me?" I will ask.
"You are the only one who moved, Señorita. We'll just go through the others." Sister Lessa answered.
I was tired and I didn't protest anymore. I opened the door on my side and let out another sigh. I looked at my black shoes that were two inches high. It's a waste of time for me to just get it wet with flood water.
"Oh, Señorita. The flood is really high," Ate Lessa said. "I'll come down to load you," he presented but I stopped him.
"Just stay here, Sister Lessa. I will go down," I said.
"But Señorita..." I waved my hand to make him shut up. He just gave me the umbrella.
But before I could get down, a tall man stopped at the open door of our car. He was wearing a black raincoat and he was also wearing rubber boots.
I tried to look at his face because it was already wet from the rain but it was covered by the hat of the raincoat and there was still a strand of hair. I also saw his sharp nose. It's still dark so I can't see his whole face.
But I could feel the coldness in his eyes while he was also staring at me. He smiled and held out his hand. I looked at it and his palm was so big that it looked like it could cover both of my palms.
Is he also Attorney Franklin's personal driver? Or a bodyguard? Because of the size of his body.
"Who are you?" two words escaped my mouth. He took another sip and sighed.
"Go ahead, Señorita. Come down because you are getting wet from the rain," said Ate Lessa as if she also trusted this man.
He took the umbrella and opened it himself then he gave it to me. My hair stood up when his long fingers touched my hand.
I didn't expect what he would do but he picked me up effortlessly. My hands were quick to fix the umbrella and we were not wet by the heavy rain.
My left arm wrapped around his neck, while my other hand was holding the umbrella. His arms are also around my back and the other is under my legs. He cleared out his throat again and I looked at his Adam's apple which was rising and falling. I frowned.
My hug tightened around his neck because he fixed the cover on me. I kept leaning on his hard chest and I could hear its fast beating. It's great to listen to, she sounds even better than the music I hear. Why am I so beautiful with the heartbeat of a person and a man?
He started walking and I know it's hard when there's a flood but with his height and size he didn't even have a hard time.
We approached the hummer parked on the side of the road and its door was already open. He carefully lowered me into the car. It didn't rain on my head because it was just my leg.
He removed the umbrella from my hand and closed it then gave it to me again. He turned around in the driver's seat and when he was riding, I only saw his gentle face there.
Our eyes met and for reasons I don't know, my heart suddenly started beating faster. I closed my chest because it seemed like my heart was going to come out from the force of its beating.
