Chapter 2 Rejected

With brokenness, Elena went to her parents house and rang the doorbell. She waited but no one seemed to hear her and came to the door.

She kept ringing the doorbell and eventually sat down at the threshold and sobbed. She's barren. Andrea said she's a barren woman and he found someone else to have his child.

She sobbed. Why Rukky, of all the women? Couldn't he do it with someone she didn't know? Why would he choose her friend to betray her with?

Eventually the door opened and her father stepped out halfway. Elena stood up and turned to face her dad, hoping she would find solace back at home but her father's question startled her.

"What do you want here? If your barrenness has sent you away from your husband, there's no place for you here" her father snapped at her.

Elena's tears momentarily paused. Her dad knows what had happened to her? He knew she left the home she built with her husband?

"Just look at yourself, see what your bad luck has brought to you? You are the first person in my ancestor's bloodline to be barren. You must have definitely been cursed.

Well, if your unfruitfulness has made you lose your home to your friend, I can't house you under my roof. You can't even go beyond that threshold.

Take the curse of your barrenness away from me and the entire family. You are no different from your mother. She was also semi barren otherwise, why couldn't she have another child after you?

But hers is different,she gave birth to you. You should try and give birth to one so that when you die and join your mom in the great beyond, you will still have a child to make us remember you..." Elena's father mocked and went back in, shutting the door on his daughter's face.

Elena's tears flowed down her cheeks. Everyone sees her as a barren woman. Her husband, her friend,her mother in law and now, even her own father called her a barren woman.

If everyone who ought to support and encourage her sees her as a barren woman, perhaps she's barren indeed. But why wouldn't anyone have faith that she would be a mother someday?

Meanwhile, Andrea pulled Rukky into a warm hug. He kissed her temple and told her to forget about Elena. She's no longer a part of their lives anymore.

They are too fortunate to share any form of relationship with a barren witch. If Elena is not a witch, why hadn't she been able to get pregnant after several medications and treatment?

"I can't be the second best in your life, Andrea, neither can my child be born outside the marriage circle. If you don't do something fast, I'll abort the baby" Rukky threatened.

"No, don't say that. I will be with the one who will give me a grandchild. Andrea will divorce that barren woman and give way to a fruitful woman like you" Alice declared.

Alice is Andrea's mother. She's beautiful and about 59 years old. She'd been widowed since Andrea was ten and had raised her son all by herself.

"I'll have my lawyer prepare the divorce papers. Once the divorce is over, you and I are obtaining a marriage certificate from the bureau. And there's nothing Elena can do about it" Andrea assured her.

He would give up everything and anything to have Rukky and the baby. Even Elena cannot stand in his way.

Rukky smiled quietly. She's not happy that Elena is going through this phase in her life. What did she think of her now? But anyways, she is pregnant and she's not ready to raise her baby as a single mother.

Elena went to the bar. Her only solace at that moment can only be in alcohol. She ordered bottles upon bottles of alcohol and gulped it down.

"Everyone says I am barren" she mumbled and took the bottle to her mouth again. Soon she belched and was completely drunk.

But she couldn't bring herself to stop. She would drink herself to stupor and sleep in the bar. After all, she has nowhere else to go.

Going home, it's totally out of it. Going to her parents home, she's not welcome there. Going to her friend's place, it's out of bound. Every side she turns to, she'd only seen betrayal, cheating and rejection.

So if alcohol was the only thing she could rely on, so be it. She wants to forget her pain. What matters to her at that moment is doing whatever she can to forget about the incident that befell her earlier in the day.

It was snowing dark. The bar was filled with a whole lot of youngsters, drinking, partying and catching fun. Many came with their boyfriends and of course their girlfriends enjoying the flavour of romance.

Elena glared at them and shook her head. She was once the love of his life and he adores her, dotes on her and promises her heaven on earth.

But now...Elena sniffled and swallowed hard, a lone tear dropped. She took a breath and said "I will not think about it anymore, I swear I won't"

Took alcohol to her lips and gulped it down. Oh her days! Why couldn't she just forget about it? Looks like she would keep drinking despite being drunk.

A scene of herself in bed with Andrea flashes through her mind but this time, she's not the woman in that scene, it's Rukky,her friend.

"No..no..." she screamed, grabbing a bottle again. She stood up, she fell back into her seat. No one around seems to care about the others.

They were all catching fun. Whoever likes it, they can fall or crawl. Whatever makes them happy, is none of any one's business.

Elena stood up again. She opened her eyes and allowed enough rays of light to get in but still she couldn't see anything properly.

Things appear before her in doubles. She stood up again, and staggered backwards but managed to stand straight and then staggered forward again.

"Hi..use your eyes bitch" a man yelled at her. Elena almost stumbled into the man and they both would have found themselves sprawled on the floor, hadn't the man not pushed her backwards to straighten her a bit.

Elena was pressed, she needed to relieve herself. This is what alcohol usually does to her. She'll keep using the restroom until her system returns to normal.

Next morning, Elena woke up with a hangover. Her head was panting her painfully. She felt really tired and exhausted.

She'd just woken up from a dream. She dreamt that Andrea made love to her and they were happy, engrossed in each other's arms. She would have smiled as she remembered the dream but instead, raised herself hastily.

Her head was still panting her but more than that, it's her heart panting her harder. Her dress was on the floor. She raised the quilt and saw she was nude.

She doesn't need to be told what has happened. Something had happened and it was with a stranger and not with Andrea like it was in her dream.

The dream was so clear and convincing. She'd been with someone else. She jumped off the bed and felt her vulva pained her, whatever, she just had a taste of someone else's dick.

The unfamiliar room, the smell of lemony cologne, her nude body under the quilt and the tired, painful part between her legs were enough indication she had a pleasure filled night.

She tried not to, but she felt remorseful. She'd never slept with anyone besides Andrea. They're still married and no excuse is enough to justify the act of infidelity in marriage.

But thank goodness that she didn't know who the stranger was, and she prayed that he doesn't know who he is either. That way, everything will be swept under the carpet and pretend that nothing ever happened.

Elena hurriedly put her dress on, and slipped out of the room unnoticed...
