"Just admiring you going about your cooking activities with so much confidence and charisma." She complimented with a smile that managed to hide her previously worried and gloomy face, but Cara was no fool. She had earlier noticed her gloomy face as she seemed so lost in thought. Her sister was strong and often acted emotionless but the only thing that would bring a flicker of emotion to her face was her ex. The thought of her always made Kristen want to cry even though it happened three years back before her modeling career accelerated.
She shook her head. "You know that's not true." Kristen narrowed her eyebrows. Cara was damn good at sniffing things out especially when it comes to her but she decided to toss it around a little. There was no way she was bringing that witch up as a topic.
"That I am not admiring you?"
"Your mind was elsewhere judging from your countenance and you have this gloomy expression." Kristen was stunned for a bit. She could have sworn that Cara's attention wasn't on her. Plus her back was turned all those while. Could she have turned without her knowing?
"Does this scenario remind you of her?" Cara asked and Kristen bit her lips with a sigh. She doesn't want to bring it up. It would mess her up coupled with the fact that she was trying to forget and heal her inner wounds. As far as she was concerned, Taylor isn't worth being talked about. "You know sis, you have to stop hiding how you feel from me. I am here to help you heal, it's obvious you haven't gotten over the mess made by Taylor." Cara interrupted her thoughts and looked up at her. "Why don't we talk about it, you know we haven't." Kristen shook her head vigorously.
"I'd rather we bury this whole thing. It's not healthy, you know."
Staring deep into her sister's eyes, Cara found out that she was fighting to hold back tears. Taylor messed up with her sister's heart. Not even an apology or remorse. To think that Kris sacrificed everything for her. She needed to get through to her sister, to get her to open up to her. She knew that it had been a while since they talked because she was in school, but it wasn't enough to close off those bonds they shared. She decided to let it rest for now or Kristen would be angry at her.
The aroma of the spaghetti hit Kristen as soon as Cara set it down from the cooking gas. The aroma was enough to change her mood back to a lovely one.
"Hula la." She sang as she danced her way to where the plates and cutleries were arranged amidst her sister's stares.
"Someone's so in the mood to have some spaghetti, yeah?" Cara asked and Kris danced her way toward her.
"Yeah, my lovely sister. Am so in the mood to empty the pots into my stomach."
Cara burst into laughter as she shook her head. "You love food, but you can't cook to save your own life."
"Hold up right there Miss Chef or am gonna strangle the life out of you," Kristen replied and made a sneering face at her sister who burst into another round of laughter.
Kristen could die for food. Wasn't she the one that was brooding earlier, her mood lightened as the pot was removed from the gas. "The power of food," Cara muttered as she dished out their food. Kristen turned sharply at her. "What did you just say?"
"Nothing." Cara denied while stifling a laugh. That was what outed her. Kristen sure heard food but didn't hear the rest and her reaction showed she said something about her love for food. She twisted her free hand as Cara winced and screamed. "What did you say, Cara?" Kris pressed further.
"I said the power of food, sis!!" Cara shouted and Kristen left her hand, smiling contentedly.
"Geez sis! Do you want to break my hand?" She asked as she blew air to her hand whilst Kristen stuck out her tongue in mockery.
"That's for the insult." She strengthened up with mock pride. "Of course, I should love food because I'm the man of the house."
Cara scoffed. "Man of the house you say?" She asked and Kristen nodded. "With those tiny muscles and shoulders?"
she exhaled. "No freaking way."
As she made her last statement, she bolted to the door with Kristen running after her. She knew she would be dead meat if her sister should lay her hands on her.
After several minutes of running around the house. Cara gave up as she knelt breathlessly in front of Kristen who had caught up with her in the living room. "You are indeed the man of the house. Please don't twist my arm again." She looked pleadingly at Kristen who chuckled and let her go.
"Go serve lunch, baby." Cara dashed off to the kitchen before her sister would change her mind about setting her free or probably empty the whole spaghetti down her stomach as she had said earlier.
As they settled down at their dining table, Kristen remembered the red wine she had bought on her way back from work to celebrate her sister's return. She went to the fridge and brought it out. Cara threw her a questioning look as she sat down.
"You bought red wine?" She nodded
"For you love. Welcome once again."
Cara smiled and leaned forward to kiss her sister all over her face.
"Geez Cara, you are harassing my face."
Cara chuckled as she embraced her sister tightly as though her life depends on it.
"I love you so much, sis." She said as she pecked her cheek.
"I love you more baby," Kristen replied and she stroked her hair lovingly. "Let's eat baby before the food gets cold. I can't wait to feast on it." They disengaged and Cara settled back in her seat. Kristen descended on the spaghetti and chicken, moaning in delight at the tasty meal. "This is one in a million, baby."
"Thanks, sis. I'm glad you like it." Cara replied as she poured a glass for herself and her sister.
"Like it? I love it!" Kristen moaned again and her sister burst into laughter.
"The power of food." Cara sang and winked at her sister.
"Yeah, whatever. I don't have your time now Cara. You better eat yours because I wasn't making empty threats when I said I am going to empty the entire spaghetti down my stomach."
With that, Cara faced her food. Devouring it as fast as she could, amidst Kristen's laughter.

Cassidy was super exhausted by the time she got home in the evening, after having fun with her friends. She slumped on the bed with aching bones. She hadn't recovered entirely from her tiredness caused by yesterday's flight and she had plunged herself into the water like a fish all day. To think she would be boarding another plane tomorrow. "Uurgh." She groaned at the thought. Her mum would be the death of her, she was sure she was going to die from tiredness after tomorrow's flight. But on second thought. She had today to rest fully but instead, she went on a swimming and milkshake spree.
She dragged herself out of the bed to go have a shower. She stripped, grabbed her towels, and headed straight to the bathroom.
As the water poured down from the faucet her mind wandered to the day's events. Hanging out with her friends today made her day. Although it just took away her worries that period they were all together in the water, splashing each other and trying out several strokes. Now those worries were back, rummaging through her head. She sighed softly and prayed earnestly to survive this summer holiday.
Coming out of the bathroom, she met her phone vibrating on the bed endlessly. She walked closer and looked at the screen. Jessie!
Why was she calling her? They parted ways a few minutes ago. She slid the green dot on the screen and pressed the phone to her ears.
"Hey, baby." Jessie's voice came to life from the other end.
"Hey Jess, what's up?"
"I'm good, I just..." Jessie stopped halfway which surprised Cassidy. Was she okay?
"Are you sure you are okay Jess?
It took some seconds before she answered. " Can I sleep over at your house Cass?" She asked and Cassidy exhaled in relief. At Least nothing was wrong with her.
"Of course Jess you can."
"Yesss!!!" Jessie shouted on the other end and Cassidy chuckled. "On my way baby." She said and cut the call.
Cassidy smiled as she dropped the phone back on the bed.
Her bestie would never cease to amaze her. Would that girl ever stay a minute without her?
It was as though she would die if she stayed without her.
They had all parted ways at the junction that led to her house as the four of them headed to
their houses on their bikes.
She should have known that Jessie would come back, especially with her traveling tomorrow.
She had barely worn her gown when she heard her horn outside the gate.
She dashed out of the house to the gate. It was 4:30 pm and her mum would be home anytime.
She opened the smaller gate and Jessie rode in, in her spectacular style. Standing up on the bike with her hands still on the handles. Cassidy feared that she would mistakenly fall off the bike one day. But not Jessie, she was so good at that, sometimes she would hold only one handle as she rode.
"You are going to fall off that bike one day," Cassidy said as she got close to her, after closing the gate.
"No freaking way, baby. I invented that style myself."
She replied as she hugged Cassidy. "Hmmm, you smell so good!" She half exclaimed as she pressed Cassidy closer.
"Jesus Jess! I can't breathe anymore." Cassidy exclaimed and Jessie let her go, as she chuckled.
"You are not supposed to breathe well Cass, I should be the one making you breathless," Jessie said as she attempted to kiss Cassidy who wriggled out of her hold and dashed into the house.
"In your dreams Jess!!" She shouted at the door of the living room, making Jessie chase after her. Cassidy turned and spun on her heels into her room.
Jessie got a hold of Cassidy as she was about to fly onto the bed, and both of them ended up on the bed with laughter.
"You think you can escape me, Cass?" Jessie asked as she climbed on top of her and held her two hands above her head.
Cassidy already knew what would follow as Jessie had already overpowered her. The next thing was to attack her lips and she would not let her do that but how was she going to stop her? The fact that Jessie was stronger than she still baffled her. As she tried to wriggle out of her hold, Jessie tightened her hold. A mischievous smile spread across her face.
"I got you right where I needed you."
"Jess doesn't do anything stupid. I'm not one of your girlfriends." Cassidy warned but that fell on deaf ears.
Jessie's laughter rang in the air. "There's nothing that will stop me from claiming your lips baby, just relax and go with the flow."
Cassidy scoffed. "What stupid flow is that? Geez I shouldn't have agreed for you to come."
"That's because you wanted it, Cass. Come on, I know you are in love with me, just admit it."
Cassidy burst into laughter at Jessie's words. "Are you freaking kidding me, Jess? Am bloody straight! How many times will I scream it into your ears huh?" Cassidy shouted and Jessie rolled her eyes.
"You are still straight because I haven't handled you." Cassidy sighed in frustration. Was her best friend serious about that or was she bluffing as always? From the look of things, she might carry out her threats as she was already powerless.
"Jess, get off me." She warned but Jessie didn't flinch as she was already halfway to meeting her lips. "I thought someone said 'In my dreams' yeah?" Jessie taunted as she came nearer. She was just inches away from Cassidy's lips when her saving grace came. Her mum's horn blasted at the gate, indicating her arrival. That distracted Jessie and Cassidy took that as a cue to act as she pushed Jessie off and dashed out of the room.
