"Every one of you has the highest potential to perfect the justice system, which is why you are here. To study it, perfect it, and make a difference in our unjust world. The question is, which of you will achieve that?" he said as he stopped and paused for a moment; a smile graced his face as he began to speak again. "The next four years are crucial to your career. If you thought this would be a walk in the park, I am here to tell you. You won't find sympathy here." He said with a slight smirk that reached his honey-brown eyes.
I was mesmerized by him. His dark brown hair was slicked back, and his black suit fitted perfectly. He had a confident air about him that left me in awe. I wanted to reach out and touch him. While I tried to focus on his lecture, I couldn't control the feelings of lust building up within me as he spoke.
"As a freshman, you will be tested in many ways. You will be tested to see how much you can handle. Remember, you choose your path, and destiny will challenge you. For those who are only here to try and pass through, Whimsic is not for you. We at Whimsic seek to find the best law students. Those who are determined to succeed will be welcomed and accepted. Those who are not will be tested and asked to leave. Everyone at Whimsic is given the opportunity to excel and become the best version of themselves. That being said, my name is Ikaris, and I welcome you all to your first day at Whimsic Law School," he concluded.
The moment he finished his speech, I rushed out of the auditorium and made a beeline for my car.
"What the fuck?" I said aloud. I had no idea what had come over me. Leaning against my car, I inhaled deeply, trying to control my beating heart, when suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind me.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
I turned to see Ikaris standing in front of me. His honey-brown eyes sent a wave of chills down my spine as they bore into my hazel-green eyes.
"Are you alright?" he asked again, stepping closer.
I nodded. "Yes, I just, first day, that's all," I replied smiling.
"The first day can be a bit tough. I'm Ikaris," he said, extending his hand to me.
"Oh, I'm Alassandra," I replied, shaking his hand.
The moment our hands touched, I felt another wave of tingles shoot through me, followed by a growl, and I could have sworn I heard him say the word "MATE." I looked into his eyes and could feel an undeniable connection between us.
A lustful smile spread across his face as he stared directly at me.
I furrowed my brows in confusion as I quickly pulled my hand off his. "Umm. I should go. I have to unpack and get familiar with the campus, but it was a pleasure meeting Ikaris," I said as I unlocked my car and opened the door.
I was just about to get in when I felt his hand on my shoulder. I turned towards him and saw his eyes flash as he smiled, "Pleasure was all mine. I'll see you around, Ms. Alassandra," Ikaris said with a sly smile as he stepped back and walked away.
I watched as he walked back toward the auditorium. The moment I lost sight of him, I jumped into my car and decided to find my dorm. I sped off, my heart racing and my palms sweaty. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I thought of Ikaris and how his eyes looked at me. I had never experienced that tingling sensation before, so I would have to research it.
I reached for my backpack, pulled out the acceptance letter, and glanced at the dorm name I had written, "Valer." I thought it was a rather peculiar name for a dorm, but then again, who was I to judge?
After about ten minutes of driving, I finally pulled up to the dorm on the northwest side of campus. As soon as I parked my car, I got out and went to the trunk. After grabbing a few boxes, I carried them inside.
There was a beautiful view of the scenery. Approximately one-third of the dorm was surrounded by what resembled a forest. I walked inside to find a group of students chatting and laughing. They were sitting around a large table and seemed very relaxed. Smiling, I walked up and introduced myself.
"Hi, I'm Alassandra. I just arrived, and I was wondering if any of you could assist me with finding room 213?" I said as I sat the boxes down on the edge of the table.
One of the girls in the crowd replied, "Hi." Her shoulder-length black hair was braided in a fishtail to show off her lilac eyes. "I'm Vero. My room is across the hallway from you. Let me show you," she said with a smile, grabbing one of the boxes from me.
"Thanks," I said as I followed behind.
"So you just got here?" Vero asked as we walked through the crowd.
"Yeah, just a few hours ago. I wanted to come sooner, but my little sister insisted I spend as much time with her," I replied.
"That's cool. My parents dropped me off last week. Guess they were ready to get rid of me," Vero laughed.
While we were walking down the hallway, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. As I glanced around, I saw nothing unusual besides everyone laughing and chatting or carrying their belongings to their room. After a few more minutes, we finally reached my room.
"Here you are," Vero announced as she entered.
"Oh my goddess, thank you so much for helping me," I said as I placed the box down.
"Goddess?" Vero asked.
I smiled and shook my head. "Sorry, just something my mom said a lot, and I suppose it stuck." I replied.
To be honest, I had never heard that term before, and I had no idea why I had just said it.
She smiled and shrugged as she walked back to the door. "Well, I am just right across the hall if you need anything," she said as she opened the door and walked out.
As I stood there in the room, I reflected on the fact that I had made it this far. Closing my eyes, I pictured my father's face smiling down on me, when suddenly my phone rang. As I fumbled for my backpack, I grabbed my phone and glanced at the caller ID.
"I haven't even been gone for a day, and you're already missing me," I answered.
The line was silent; no one said anything.
"Hello? Lil, can you hear me?" I asked. Suddenly, the call hung up.
That's weird, I thought to myself. I quickly dialed Lilian's number.
In a whisper, she replied, "I'm in class right now.".
"Oh, you called me," I responded.
"No, I didn't. Is everything OK with you?' Lilian asked, her voice surprised.
"No. I mean, yes, everything is fine. I'm sorry, I must be mistaken. I thought I heard my phone ring." I said, trying to cover my embarrassment. "Call me when you get out of school," I added, hanging up the call.
I was sure that she called me. I opened up my call log and saw that the only call that came in all day was an eight hundred number I declined.
As I cast a disdainful glance and flung my phone onto the bed, I ruminate, "I haven't even graced this place for a mere day, and already my sanity is unraveling." Shaking my head in disbelief, I commenced rearranging the boxes against the wall when an incoming text chimed on my phone. I grabbed my keys, shoved them into my back pocket, grabbed my phone, and opened the text.
The message came from an unknown sender, saying, "WELCOME HOME."
