Cody's brother's suspicious quiet was an affirmative response. If there was no meaning in his mother's funeral, then nothing would ever bring him home. As long as his brother had received the message he meant, Jordan had no control over his choice. He could never again lay blame on anyone for the situation.
The community looked up to him as their father because he was the older brother, and Jordan had little influence over his choice. It's unclear to me whether all elderly people; who are supposed to be wise-make the proper choices. Cody cursed himself because he couldn't decide whether to confront Melinda or his deceased family. Throughout his life, nothing was simple!
"Cody, don't disappoint your mummy. Kindly, do it for her. I wish to see you again soon, big brother. I'll let Daddy know that you're on your way," he groaned and stated firmly. Cody added after a short pause, "I don't know, brother," unable to consider his brother's worries. Jordan's hope was almost dashed by his repetition. Cody has always been engaged in his family, but also obstinate since he was a little child. He had undergone a negative transformation due to the cruel world. He was not the gorgeous, duty-bound, kind, and considerate Cody he had known for so long.
"Hey, dude. Cody, this is not the time to be thinking poorly of yourself. Dad needs you home, as you are well aware. Since you were a young child, your father has relied on you to manage the ranch. Maybe he'll need you more than he needs any of us. Cody, please think again before leaving for home. Stay true to him!" with impatience, he snapped. Cody cleared his throat, the words from his brother sinking into his frail heart. Except for begging him to return home, all he said was correct. True, his father needed him, but not at the right moment.
"We hope to see you very soon..." Before Jordan could say anything further, he hung up the phone. "We are planning the funeral for this Saturday." Jordan was not prepared to hear his ridiculous justifications regarding an important matter.
Now, the choice was his. With his tears flowing down his cheeks, Cody wiped them away and listened to the birds welcoming the darkness. They were heated to the touch of tears. There was no hope left, and he knew it, with his brother assuring Adams that he was on his way home. Whether it was the proper moment or not, he had to return to the place he hated. He had to set aside his past suffering and focus on saying his final goodbyes to his beautiful mother.
Adams always revered Jessica, despite the roughness with which she had treated them as children. His deity of love was she. Jessica couldn't let anyone get out of the funeral if it was his father's, no matter the situation.
This was their opportunity as adults to support him during this difficult period. He was certain that no justification on earth could match the love his father had for them, as much as he wanted to apologize.
Thinking of every way he might avoid facing Melinda, he was helpless. He knew that she could never have the gall to attend his mother's burial, for all that she had done to him. I guess after cheating on him, the world taught her a lesson in manners. Cody felt more hopeful because of his illogical notions. He would quickly return to his work after their encounter and prevent her from realizing his existence. At least, he thought of home.
Choosing to use his old–long-packed car as the means of transport, could delay him as possible home. His mind routine read; a few hours to spend with his father and offer him the support he could for the short time being, a few hours to visit his relatives, perhaps a day to all of them, a few hours to natural walk with his nephews in the ranch, especially Dan and lastly a few hours to disappear from his family again.
Presumably, his hours couldn't exceed the past two days for him to be home. With everything to avoid Melinda from spoiling his already spoiled moment, she would be the last thing on his mind, whether to check on her or not... What a fabulous, unsuccessful concept!
After all, the very determination that he had to flee from his ranch was commencing to vanish away. It was precisely time for him to regret it. To regret the time, he had wasted instead of running his own established business in the city. What a shame for such a gifted CEO like him to forget his long–desired dream–running a big ranch.
After the long wished journey, Cody ultimately pulled breaks In front of his father's luxurious flat. It was as he had left it a year and a half ago–beautiful and neat. From a distance, he could see the ranch full of horses and a herd of cattle. Finally, his eyes met the exquisite land that he dreamed of idolizing and running for the rest of his life if it wasn't for Melinda.
Even after the harsh frost weather during the winter, the land's magnificence was as cordial as the eyes could embrace. His eyes adored the incredible flowers he met, just after striding on the land. Since the years of his ludicrous spontaneous disappearance, his mind started to embrace the peace of being at home. Perhaps, the wise men weren't erroneous when they said–home is the best!
