Chapter 4 The CEO's Bad News!

Chapter 4. The CEO's Bad News!

Cody sunk into deep contemplation, as his lips quivered in trepidation. Jordan's exhausted voice elucidated vividly that nothing was, precisely. There was no contentment, perhaps after a cloud of despair confronted his family. At first, Cody pondered about his daddy–Adams, and then about his mother –Jessica. Everyone was more than life to him. After a long pause, his lips managed to mutter...

"It's mummy, right?" Cody inquired. He couldn't delineate why his lips and senses thought of her at the same time. It wasn't reasonable for him to think ill of his mother, but he was left with nothing than guesses. Perhaps, Jordan desired him to cite it by himself to avoid spoiling him with his awful delivery. No one yearns to ponder ill of his close broods, primarily, parents. After another momentous interlude, Jordan cleared his phlegm–blocked nose and throat. Conceivably, his assumption was straight!

"Yeah, it's Mum..." finally mentioned, breaking into a faded cry. Cody had termed his mama immortal. Ultimately, what he worried the most happened! Instantly, he abhorred to attend to his mother's name cited. He couldn't consider how his precious, united family would look like without her manipulation and custody.

Jessica was the fairest mother the earth could furnish to Cody and his family. Cody loathed his brother's trepidation in pointing out horrendous information. He was unable to spit out something that could shatter his heart at once. Jordan felt relieved by his correct guess.

"What hell transpired to our mother? Is she alright?" asked Cody, endeavouring to bypass any adverse reaction from his sanity. Jordan on the other side moaned and swallowed his spittle hard. It was formidable for him to elucidate everything that had ensued to Jessica on a call. He hoped it could be a face–face dialogue, to bolster his brother.

"It was yesterday sunset when she and daddy drove through the ranch to the mountains..." Jordan muttered and hesitated once more. This time, Cody could hear his cry audibly. Like a small youngster, he dabbed away slashes stream after another. His tragic voice elicited Cody's sentiment, but he remained damn hard. It wasn't ingenious for him to be feeble in front of his immature brother. Like Mary–Jesus' mother, he retained all the sorrow deep down his heart.

Jordan never sobbed, but this time, he did. The despair wasn't sustainable. Adams had subjected his boys to his ancient, biased belief about the deficiency of men's tears. For years, they had never seen him weep. Even after the casualty of his last-born son, Adams didn't shade a single rip. He had set a reasonable criterion for them.

This time, the worst news had driven him to devastate the impediments. At this point, he shattered into a scream. From a distance, Cody could hear his wife–Kelly, strength him. Kelly wasn't better as her tears rippled down her already swollen eyes. Cody could picture their pale faces packed with gloom. What he didn't figure out was what had ensued to Jessica – his mother. Could his mother be doomed? Mulling about it sucked!

If his brother's death scared Jordan, what about his everything? Jordan always treasured his mother. Most times, he favoured to spend time with her in the kitchen cooking and sharing momentous tales than idol posing in the sitting chamber to wait for already made banquets. Sporadically, Cody could hear them chuckle, overwhelmed with elation. The two were indivisible.

"Jordan, what's up, man?" asked Cody, strengthening his dimming expectancy. From Jordan's comeback, he discerned something more awful than he anticipated had occurred. Even if he was sure something ominous had transpired, he wasn't conscious of anything abominable to shudder Jordan's long-founded enthusiasm.

"I fibbed! Nothing's alright at home, Cody. Our momma is lifeless! It was a dreadful driving calamity that happened on our ranch yesterday. Daddy said they were going out when their automobile fell from the mountain. She..." Jordan finally elucidated the nastiest.

For years, Cody hadn't felt his body and mind so vulnerable. His lips trembled rhythmically to the shivering of his heart. At some point, his body froze, as well as his sanity. Even after his girlfriend–Melinda, cheated on him, he hadn't felt so betrayed by the world. The world bombarded him from all sides, leaving him with zero. First, it took away his treasured girlfriend and now was grabbing away his mother. What a lousy life!

"I'm sorry, Cody, the doctors couldn't save her. Before the ambulance services got the announcement about the accident, our mother was already gone. Gone forever, brother..." he deduced his remark and sough. Stillness monopolized between them.

Cody felt illicit tears flowing from his damn hard eyes. He dabbed them away worthlessly and sighed. Clearing his throat, he feigned like a potent pillar. That's the way his father taught him. As he pondered about his father and his rigid restrictions, a flash of dismay occupied his chilled, pale cheeks. Apologetic tears kept on coming from his eyes, stream after the other. No man is bitter–proof, no matter the statutes!

"Oh, my goodness! And... And how's daddy?" murmured Cody, after thrusting his lips to say something. His mind diverted from the alarming news to his father. Adams was always a composed and optimistic man in anything. Some people said he was rigid enough to go through anything wretched in the world, but Cody comprehended him differently.

His father was delicate about anything about his wifey. Adams worshipped Jessica, frankly. Cody couldn't visualize how stiff it was for him to prevail in this cruel world independently. If he were unable to take a betrayal from Melinda, then couldn't endure the demise of a loved one. If there was someone who required more backing about his mother's death, it was his father. Loneliness was massacring him!

"Are you sure he is, OK? Who is with him right now?" asked Cody, concerned about his loneliness. For one and a half years, loneliness had taught him how complicated it was for one to persevere. The two inquiries reminded him of his brother, Luke.

"Our brother is with him home. They docked this morning for funeral configurations. If it wasn't for this call, Kelly and I could be there with him. I had to wait until you called back. I hope you will be home soon, presumably, by tomorrow morning..." apologized Jordan. Far from the worst news of his mother's death, what he worried vastly was going back home. Home was always his adversary.

Jordan's question sounded like of, undoubtedly. Even after the nastiest news, Cody wasn't positive about going back home. A cloud of bewilderment overwhelmed him. Preferring to withhold from going to his mother's funeral. It was another blunder he couldn't reckon off. Weighing between confronting his stupid Melinda and heeding his mother's funeral nearly slain his mind cells.

"I don't know, brother..." he said, sounding absurd to Jordan's ears. His obstinacy was still functional despite his thriving age. The two sounded wrong to him. The obligation and misery he could encounter at home made him sob.
