Chapter 3 Too Weak To Have Been Luna

Xander POV

It's being over a week since we've being searching for Iris. We searched the entire cliff and all we found was just her shoe and the red jacket I saw her wear that day before she went missing.

I felt bad for being the cause of her being missing although no one knew that aside from Dad. I felt bad but I don't regret rejecting her.

She couldn't be my mate and when Bailey told me about what she heard from her parents, it made my resolve more solid. She wasn't a wolf but a human. How could she lead the pack beside me if she couldn't even fight for herself?

Xander my wolf was still mad at me and no matter how hard I tried to talk to him and make him see reason, he wouldn't reply. I knew he was mad at me because I rejected Iris but he ought to understand. He was just being childish and obnoxious.

"Father wants to talk to you Xander," Timothy said with a grim look on his face. He had been moody and sad ever since Iris went missing and had been so serious about finding her. He led the search team to search for Iris even when it was obvious that she was gone and there was no more traces of her.

"Ok, I'm on my way," I nodded at him and he left. He'd better get his shit together and it's time people forgot about her and moved on. She was of no benefit to the pack so I saw no reason why we should stress ourselves to find her. She was just a weak human that didn't belong here.

I knocked at father's door and he asked me to come in.

I went in and saw him working on some files on his table. He ignored me and continued on the files on his table and I just stood waiting for him to talk.

"What progress have you made in finding Iris Williams?" He finally raised his head from his files and stared at me.

"The only progress we've made is in finding one of her shoes and her red jacket. We've not found anything else," I explained with my head bowed.

There was silence and I could feel his eyes on me as he watched me.

"What you did was wrong, Xander," Dad finally spoke up.

"I know Dad and I'm really sorry. I didn't know she would take it personally," I kept my face to the ground, feeling guilty.

"You should have approached the issue more calmly. She is lost because you fought with her and kicked her out. Now her parents are mourning her," he sighed, his eyes twitched in worry and his hands shook. He was getting old and weak and sooner or later, he would hand over the pack to me.

"I feel she is dead and I think we should withdraw our trackers. They've being going around in circles."

"You and Timothy would have to go to her parents house to deliver the news to them yourself. You should prepare, the next full moon would be next week and I would be handing over to you then," he said and my heart leaped in happiness.

"Thank you Father," I bowed my head and he waved me off.

"Go and settlle things with Iris's parent," I nodded and immediately left for their house with Timothy beside me.

"I can't believe Dad it's withdrawing the tracking team," he grumbled, frowning.

"He is doing the right thing. She's being missing for over a week, she might already be dead," I explained to him and he didn't say anything. He just kept silent as we journeyed to Iris's house.

We knocked on the door and Iris's dad opened the door.

"It's nice to have you in our home Alpha Xander," he nodded at me and I forced a smile at him.

We walked in and we met Bailey consoling Iris's mom. We nodded slightly at her and she smiled acknowledging us.

"What do we owe this visit?" Iris's father, Peter asked.

I glanced at Timothy but he wouldn't meet my eyes, meaning I had to deliver the news myself.

"I met with my father today and we discussed about Iris's disappearance," I paused and Iris's mom, Heather glanced at me at the mention of Iris's name.

It suddenly felt hard for me to tell them that we've decided she was dead. The hope in their eyes made things quite difficult. I felt bad for being the reason their daughter is missing and bad to be the one to break the news to them that she was probably dead.

"Go on Alpha Xander, whatever it is tell us," Peter urged me and I sighed.

"We are withdrawing the tracking team from tracking her since there's no clue about her whereabout again and we've been going in circles. The alpha and I concluded that she was probably dead," I dropped the bomb and Heather cried out while Bailey tried to pacify her. Peter just stared into space lost in thought not saying anything and Timothy gritted his teeth in anger, trying to keep calm.

It was for the best, we couldn't keep looking for someone that couldn't be found. It was time we faced reality.

"I'm sorry for your loss." I stood up ready to leave and Timothy stood up with me.

"I promise if she's still alive I'll find her personally or find whoever it is that hurt me and made her jump down the cliff," Timothy assured Peter and he nodded sadly. I was a little scared because I was the reason for Iris's disappearance but I was sure no one would ever find out.

We left the house not without Bailey winking at me and returned back home. I delivered the update to Dad and I left to prepare for my coronation as the new Alpha of the pack.

A week later, everyone gathered at the pack grounds for the passing over if the Alpha's title to me.

"Do you Xander, promise to lead this pack well, be a good Alpha and look out for your pack mates?" Dad asked.

"I do," I replied on my knees.

"The moon bear you witness this day," he said.

He took a knife and cut my palm with it and also cut himself and then he rubbed our palms together, dissolving his connection as the Alpha and handing over to me.

"I now announce you the Alpha of the Brazen wolf pack and Timothy your beta."

Everyone cheered happily as I rose up on my feet, now the new Alpha of the Brazen wolf pack.

Iris's teary face found it's way into my thoughts and I could feel guilt eating me up from within as people cheered on.

Was I wrong for rejecting Iris?
