Chapter 8 Realizing This Feeling Too Late

He looked expressionlessly at Lidya for a moment, then back at the emergency room door that was still lit up.

Seeing that, Lidya was getting worried, Daniel didn't seem to care about Patricia anymore. Then he added. "Patricia was unconscious for a while, right now her condition is so weak, she needs you to be by her side, Daniel."

"You can call a doctor to check on her," he replied nonchalantly.

"I did. It's just that she keeps calling your name. I felt sorry for Patricia who was helpless. Her face looks pale. She must be thinking about what Audrey said earlier. That child! Always causing trouble. If only Audrey hadn't come, maybe Patricia wouldn't have dropped like this. It was all Audrey's fault. She is responsible for Patricia's health."

Daniel, who heard this, started to get annoyed. His hands were clenched into fists, holding back his emotions.

"That woma has never been able to see Patricia happy. Her heart is filled with jealousy. You'd better break up with Audrey. She doesn't love you, nor does she deserve you. Audrey is cunning. She can do anything to get what she wants. She could have just pretended to faint to get your attention-"

"ENOUGH!" Daniel screeched angrily.

His eyes flashed with emotion. "I don't know what kind of mother you are to accuse her daughter. Can't you see how Audrey was, huh?!"

The veins on Daniel's temples stood out, one hand still clenched and the other pointing at Lidya. "If anything happens to Audrey or our baby. I'll make sure you pay for it!" Daniel emphasized every word he said to Lidya.

Seeing Daniel's heightened emotions, Lidya tried to be calm and gentle, trying to calm Daniel down.

"You don't need to worry, Audrey will be fine. I don't want anything to happen to my granddaughter either. Audrey has your son and Patricia in her womb."

Lidya squealed in surprise. There was a flash of anger in Daniel's eyes that lit her up this time. Lidya's body trembled with fear. "D-Daniel, what are you doing?"

Daniel moved stiffly with his hands still clutching Lidya's shirt, his eyes bulging with anger.

"D-Daniel," Lidya called out to him once more. As if he was enveloped by angry lust, Daniel only realized afterward. He blinked briefly then released his grip as he pushed Lidya's body away from him

"Go away!" he said coldly. He didn't want to get out of control and do unwanted things to Lidya.

With her heart already beating erratically and her face pale with fear, Lidya hurriedly left Daniel.

Daniel looked down, his tears falling. Then turned to the operating room door which was still closed. Imagining how Audrey was suffering in there. Imagining a tiny innocent baby is also struggling for life in there.

At this moment, Daniel suddenly understood his true feelings and it turned out that he had fallen in love with Audrey.

He didn't care whose baby was in Audrey's womb. All he wants now is Audrey's health so that she can be back with him.

It was already morning, but Daniel hadn't gotten any news about Audrey. Only a few nurses and doctors were seen entering Audrey's surgery room.

Daniel was getting more and more anxious. Let alone to eat, even to just drink he had no appetite. His head was filled with Audrey.

At night, Daniel couldn't wait anymore. It had been too long and no doctor could give him certainty.

When he asked, the answer he got was just please be patient and please wait. Daniel's patience was at its limit. He was too worried to continue waiting in front of the operating room without certainty. He had to see with his own eyes how Audrey's condition was.

So at that moment, he barged into the operating room, coinciding with one of the doctors who was about to leave the room.

Sorry, sir. You can't come in!" The doctor stopped Daniel and led him back outside.

"I need to see my wife. How is she?"

"We're trying our best, sir. Please wait outside. Your presence will only disturb the doctors."

"I can't wait anymore! Please tell me how my wife is!" Daniel shouted angrily at the doctor. He was already frustrated.

"As of now, the patient's condition is still critical. We have brought in a team of the best doctors. We will do everything possible to save your wife."

Daniel shook his head impatiently, dissatisfied with the doctor's answer.

"Let me come in to have a look."

"You can't, Sir. You are not allowed-"

"Anything. I'll pay whatever it takes. I heard this hospital needs investors, I will invest in whatever the hospital needs, but let me see Audrey's condition. Please."

Hearing Daniel say this, the doctor was seen whispering to each other with his other colleagues.

Daniel waited anxiously. He would do anything to see Audrey.

The doctor returned to Daniel. "All right, you can go in. But please keep your emotions in check. Don't interfere with the doctor's activities inside because it could endanger your wife's life."

Daniel nodded. "Yes, of course. I just want to see it."

"Eliah, please take this gentleman to change his clothes." The doctor gave orders to a nearby nurse.

"This way, sir." The nurse directed Daniel. Taking him to a sterile room and dressing him in sterile clothes.

It was all done so that Daniel would not carry viruses or bacteria that would infect Audrey later because it would endanger her life even more.

After he was dressed in sterile gear, Daniel began to enter the operating room.

The nurse led him, going deeper into the partitioned section. Behind the partition, Daniel finally saw his wife's body lying on the operating bed. Her eyes were closed and her mouth was gaping with an oxygen tube in it. Even on Audrey's hands and body, there were many cables attached and connected to the monitor screen.

Daniel shook his head in disbelief at what he saw. Audrey's condition was so pathetic in there. Her body lay helpless, whereas before Audrey was able to scream at him, but at this time the woman was pale and closed.

Daniel's tears fell without him being able to prevent it. His chest felt tight seeing Audrey's condition. Feeling unable to linger there, Daniel decided to leave the room immediately.

He leaned against the wall to support his body. His cheeks were already flooded with tears.

"Audrey..." he whispered poignantly.
