Chapter 3: He Is Infuriating

"Come out already, how long is it going to take you? He is going to be angry if we are late." Louis spoke from the other side of my bathroom door.

"I had class and had things to do. It is not my fault you don't want to go to dinner alone."

"I know, I am sorry. It is just that he has been unusually hard on me. He seems to be calmer when you are around, I want him to notice me. To see I am not the child I used to be and not treat me like I don't know shit."

"That ship has sailed." I teased him.

"It is not funny, how much longer? It is a family dinner not a party."

"Now who is not funny."

I took one last look in the mirror, I am wearing a black belted short dress. My hair is pulled into a messy chignon bun. I have kept my makeup light since my father seems to always have something to say whenever I put on makeup. He considers it loud and cheap, I swear, if he could lock me in a tower, he would probably do that. I grabbed my clutch and phone.

"Read?" I asked my brother as I walked past him. He rolled his eyes and laughed.

We walked downstairs, I was annoyed when I saw two cars waiting for us. He gave me an apologetic look. I shook my head as we walked closer to the cars. One of my father's men opens the door for me and I slide in. I am counting the days when I can put this life behind me. Once I graduate, I am definitely going to leave this City, there is no reason for me to stay. Louis gets into the car and pouts.

I wish I could be mad at him but I know it is not his fault. Our father isn't the easiest man to deal with, he is set on his way. He has been running the City for the last three decades after my grandfather's death. As the head of the family, he had always demanded nothing short of perfection. Our family has ruled the City for over fifty years, you can say this is the family business. What business is that? Even though he has never shared how our family got its fortune, it is not hard to figure it out. He runs drugs and weapons among other things I am not purview to. It is one of the reasons I wanted to leave.

"I know you hate these family dinners but I am grateful you could come."

"It is going to cost you." I looked at him.

"Am I going to like this?" I moved closer so the bodyguards couldn't hear us.

"Tony wants me to go to his parent's beach house. He invited me for the weekend."

"Um," he hummed.

"I told him I could do one overnight since you made plans for us."

"What do you want me to do?" I look upfront.

"I don't know if I can."

"Figure it out because I need you to cover me."

"Why don't you just tell him who we are? He had to have figured it out by now."

"If he has, he isn't telling. You know what our name does to people when they hear it."

"Doesn't he know your last name?"

"No, I used my mother's maiden name in school."

"It is a kind of fucked up that you are doing that."

"I didn't ask to be a part of this family." I said as we came to halt in front of my father's favorite restaurant. I already see my father with a bottle of wine making everyone laugh.

"My little princess has come to join us, what a treat." He kissed my cheeks as I got closer to him.

"Hi, dad, I hope you don't mind me crashing?"

"Not at all, I am sure this is your brother's doing " he says the fact, I am not sure if it is a good thing or a bad one.

"Sit next to me, Nora, move over." He ordered.

Nora is the latest trophy wife he has acquired, he goes through them like crazy.

"It is okay, father. I am sure she wants to be next to you."

"I don't mind." She was scared and I felt bad. She is only six years older than me and wife number five. My mother died when I was ten in a tragic accident.

"Come sit beside me."

For the next hour, he talks about everything he has been up to. He asked a few questions about my studies but it is a sore topic since he wanted me to quit school. Like that is ever going to happen, he ignores Louis most of the night. I wanted to say something but I couldn't. It will make things worse for him, everyone is so busy talking and no one spotted the man walking towards our table.

He is looking straight at me gluing me in place. The stare was so intense that I felt tingling all over my body. I find myself pressing my legs together, I swear he was undressing me with his eyes. Even though he was wearing a suit, I can tell he had a perfect body. I don't know why but I pictured him taking me from the table and having his way with me. If I was a brave woman, I would go to him and have a one night stand with him. I was surprised when he stopped at our table.

"Good evening, Dante. Fancy to see you here." His voice is cold,

He wasn't looking at me again and I was actually disappointed. What is wrong with me? I have a boyfriend for goodness sake.

"Hard to believe since I frequent here and never seen you." From the corner of my eyes I saw my father's men move closer.

"I came to offer peace, we can both coexist in the same City."

I looked at my brother, trying to understand what was happening but he shook his head. Now, I am really confused.

"I am not interested in giving you something you haven't earned or deserve!" My father's voice goes up silencing the whole restaurant.

"I wouldn't start something if I were you." He turns to look at me.

"There are a lot of wolves out in the world and you have plenty of prey surrounding you."

My father signaled but I wasn't understanding a thing. All I knew was that his voice was making me wet. Suddenly, my father stood up and one of his men took me by the arm and stood me up. Then, the spell with my stranger broke.

"What the hell!" I screamed.

"Take her," my father ordered.

I started walking with his men but not before the man looked at me with the eyes of a predator.
