Chapter 9 What Was Your Name

With a loud crash, dozens of glasses clattered to the floor, creating an ear-splitting noise.

People nearby screamed in terror. As they saw Scarlett teetering toward the shards of glass, they instinctively covered their eyes.

The thought of numerous glass fragments piercing her delicate skin sent shivers down their spines.

As the icy liquid splashed onto her, Scarlett's mind went blank, and she instinctively squeezed her eyes shut.

After a few heart-pounding moments, the expected sharp pain didn't arrive.

Strong arms wrapped around Scarlett, holding her securely.

"Are you alright?" A deep, reassuring voice reached her ears.

Scarlett's heart raced as she opened her eyes, meeting Elias' concerned gaze.

In a daze, she murmured, "Mr. Roberts? What are you doing here?"

Observing her pale and bewildered expression, Elias' concern deepened. He held her close and asked anxiously, "Are you hurt?"

Scarlett felt weak all over and replied softly, "I'm okay-"

Before she could finish her sentence, a sudden sharp pain shot through her arm, causing her to gasp.

It was then that she noticed a scratch on her arm, bleeding.

Elias' expression changed instantly. "We need to get you to the hospital," he declared without hesitation.

Scarlett's dress was soaked with champagne. Elias removed his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders. Then, he bent down and lifted her into his arms.

Scarlett protested weakly, "Mr. Roberts, I can walk on my own."

However, Elias didn't entertain her objections. He asserted, "We don't have time to waste. You need medical attention right away."

He added firmly, "Hold on tight."

Scarlett's heart continued to race. She obediently wrapped her arms around Elias' neck. His face was so close, but she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze, so she buried her face in his suit jacket.

There was a lingering warmth on Elias' jacket. Scarlett caught a faint scent of cedarwood mixed with a subtle musk.

It felt as if a person stumbling through a snowy night had suddenly found a comforting bonfire. The cold and fear that had gripped her body were finally dispelled by this long-missed warmth.

As Elias prepared to carry Scarlett away, Anna intervened.

Jealousy and anger flashed in her eyes as she looked at Scarlett, securely held in Elias' arms.

Fearing she might tarnish her image in Elias' eyes, Anna hastily attempted to explain, "Elias! Let me clarify. It's not what you think!"

But Elias showed no interest in hearing her excuses. His voice turned cold as he interrupted her, his eyes flashing with malice, "I've made up my mind about what happened. Step aside."

Anna was even more anxious. She tried her best to stop them. "No, Elias. Listen to me. It was because she attacked me first that I-"

"Don't let me repeat myself," Elias interjected with a sharp glint in his eyes.

Driven by fear, Anna reluctantly stepped out of their way.

Elias swiftly drove Scarlett to the hospital.

The doctor was taken aback by Elias' commanding demeanor as he stood up and asked, "What's the matter?"

Gently placing Scarlett in a chair, Elias explained, "Doctor, she has a cut on her arm."

The doctor examined Scarlett's wound. It was bleeding, but fortunately, it wasn't deep.

Looking at the nervous look on Elias' face, the doctor comforted him, "Don't worry too much. The wound isn't serious. She just needs a simple bandage."

Still, Elias couldn't shake his worry. "In addition to treating this wound, please conduct a general check-up for her," he requested firmly.

A general check-up?

Scarlett raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Isn't that a bit much?" she questioned.

Elias' expression remained serious. "I won't be at ease until I'm sure you're completely okay," he replied firmly.

If it weren't for Scarlett helping him fend off Anna's advances, she wouldn't have been in this situation.

Elias felt partly responsible for her injury, and he wasn't taking it lightly.

Although Scarlett wanted to decline, the earnestness in Elias' eyes made it difficult to refuse. She sighed and reluctantly agreed.

Soon, a nurse attended to Scarlett's wound.

As she bandaged the injury, the nurse playfully asked, "Ma'am, is that gentleman your husband? He looks really worried. Must be quite in love with you."

Scarlett blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed. "No, we're not a couple."

The nurse seemed surprised but quickly made assumptions. "Oh, I see. So you must be dating, right?"

Scarlett shook her head. "No, not that either."

The nurse seemed to have an "Aha!" moment. "I get it. He must be pursuing you. He's so anxious about you. He's handsome, and you're beautiful. You'll become a couple soon."

Scarlett felt helpless. Elias had been married for a long time and had a wife and child.

She, on the other hand, was also married.

Their relationship was purely professional, but she didn't want to delve into personal matters with the nurse.

She changed the subject and asked, "Is there anything I should be cautious about once I'm back home?"

The nurse became more serious and advised, "Stick to a light diet, keep the wound dry, and after it heals, you can apply a scar-removing ointment prescribed by the doctor."

"Got it," Scarlett acknowledged.

As the doctor prepared to prescribe medication for Scarlett, he asked, "By the way, what's the patient's name?"

Elias frowned, realizing he was unfamiliar with the new tutor for his son. He only knew her last name.

Scarlett, sitting nearby, readily answered, "My name is Scarlett Wallace."

Scarlett Wallace?

Elias froze at the mention of her name. It triggered a memory of a name he had seen on a divorce agreement.

Could this be the same woman-

He gripped Scarlett's wrist anxiously and asked, "What was your name again?"
