Damien POV
Aaron looks tired and Adi seems distracted. "How was your day you two?" They just looked at me blankly. I could feel their pain. "What happened today?"
Aaron tells me about his fight at school "He called me a freak dad!" he huffed. "AND he said I'm not faster than him but that's not why I tackled him." It was cute how he was trying to justify himself.
"Aaron it's ok. I'm not mad. I'm not fond of the fighting but I am proud of you for sticking up for yourself." I praise him. That made him smile.
Adi asks me about their mother. "You never talk about mom. Why not? We don't know anything about her. was she different like us?"
"We'll talk after dinner, ok?" I give her a half smile.
When we arrived home, I had time to make dinner for us. We had spaghetti, it's quick and the kids love it. I knew I would have to answer questions about their mother, but I wasn't sure where to start.
"Daddy, why did mommy leave us? Did she not want us?" Adi asks sadly. I was speechless for a moment. The hurt I could feel from her crushed me. I noticed Aaron perk up at the mention of their mother.
Their sweet little faces make me want to protect them from all the suffering they will eventually face. I rub my forehead thinking of what to say.
"Do you remember learning of our Moon Goddess in school?" I looked at them both "She is our deity that chooses our mate for us. The special bond we will have with our chosen mate, the union of love and loyalty is given to us by our Moon Goddess. She created us, protects us, and blesses us."
They look as if I've hypnotized them with new information.
Adi chimes in "I've never heard it said that way before, daddy. But I have always believed and loved our Moon Goddess." She grinned in the cutest way.
Aaron continued to listen intently.
"Well, unfortunately, mommy was not my mate. She found her mate and chose to be with him." I frowned feeling my heart ache and they felt it too.
Aaron snapped "But why did she forget us?" He surprised me when he spoke up.
"Why hasn't she come to see us at least?" Adi asked me.
My eyes teared up but all I could do was comfort them. I reassured them that their mother loves them. Although I'm not quite sure if I believe it myself.
"I'm sure she has her reasons. Maybe one day you will get to ask her." I let out at heavy exhale.
"It's time for bed now." I tried to distract them from speaking more about this. "But dad." Adi sulks. "Idalia, I said it's bedtime." When I use her full name, she knows I mean business. Aaron had already jumped in bed. I tucked Adi in and kissed her forehead "Sweet dreams Allie Cat. I love you."
"I love you more." She chirps.
I go to Aarons room and tuck him in kissing his forehead "Goodnight, bud. I'm proud of you for sticking up for yourself today. I love you."
With a tired smile "Thanks daddy. Love you too."
Always kiss your kid's goodnight.
