Chapter 5 Are you pregnant with my child

Maria was so surprised that she involuntarily took a few steps back. Zane was like a wild animal awakening from a deep sleep. There was nothing evil in him when he slept. But now that he awoke, an eerie and dangerous atmosphere surrounded him.

Mrs Fisher left the room and closed the door. She looked at Maria, who looked like a deer in the headlights, and said softly, "Don't be afraid, ma'am. Mr. Zayn has just woken up and he may not get the message yet. Tonight I'll take you to the guest room and we'll talk in the morning. Madam Rachel loves you, so maybe she's on your side."

Maria's mind was confused. She thought Zayn could die at any moment, but never thought about the possibility of him regaining consciousness.

"Mrs. Fischer, my belongings are still in the room..." Maria glanced at the master bedroom door and she went inside thinking she would take all her belongings.

She had strong feelings that he would not accept her as his wife, and she had to be ready to leave her villa at any moment.

Mrs. Fischer sighed and said, "If it's not that important, let's leave it for now. I'll bring it tomorrow."

"Okay," Maria replied, "Are you afraid of him?" she asked.

"I've been working for him for a long time," Mrs. Fischer said. "He may look scary, but it wasn't difficult for me,"

Maria responded with a moan, and she said nothing more. She may be his wife, but technically this was the first time they had met. It was natural for him to be hostile to her.

Maria didn't sleep well that night. Her head was filled with millions of chaotic thoughts. Zayn's recovery has completely disrupted her pace of life.

At eight o'clock the next morning, Mrs. Fischer took all of Maria's belongings out of the master bedroom and sent them to the guest room where she was staying.

"It's time for breakfast, miss," said Mrs. Fischer.

"Master Zane is already in the dining room," she said. "You should go there too!"

"I don't think he wants to see me." Maria frowned at her.

"You still have to eat breakfast. Come on, come on! Master Zayn didn't even get mad when I said I like you. Maybe he'll be a little better today." Mrs Fischer said.

As Maria arrived in the dining room, her eyes fell on Zayn, who is confined to the wheelchair. Thanks to regular strength training, he was able to move his arms. He sat up straight, even though he was in a wheelchair. If he had stood, he certainly would have been taller and stockier than he was.

Anxious Maria sat at her dining table while Mrs Fischer prepared a plate for her. Zayn said nothing when Maria picked up the fork. She couldn't help but glance at him, which quickly caught Zayn's attention. His eyes were like bottomless black holes that could swallow a man whole.

"Hey...I'm...Maria Baker..." Maria muttered worriedly.

Zayn picked up his coffee and sipped it slowly. His voice was muffled and indifferent, and he said, "I know you might be pregnant with my child."

Maria's heart contracted and she soon lost her appetite. "Which do you prefer, surgical or medical?" His tone was soft as he said the cruel words. The color of blood disappeared from Maria's face, and her head turned white.

Mrs. Fischer found the topic too spooky, so she dropped etiquette and said, "Mr. Zayn, the child is Mrs. Rachel's brainchild."

"Don't use my mother to pressure me!" Zayn said sharply, glaring at Mrs. Fischer as she lowered her head and shut her mouth.

"Zayn -" Maria started, but she was interrupted by Zayn.

"Who allowed me to say my name?"

Maria said in amazement, "What else can I call you? Shall I call you 'Honey'?"

Her eyes flashed with anger.

Maria quickly tried to calm him down before he lost his temper. "I'm not pregnant. I've got my period. If you don't believe me, ask the cleaning lady, Mrs. Wilson. I asked her for a tampon this morning."

Zayn was silent. He picked up his coffee and took a sip. Suddenly Maria felt that she had a stomach ache, so she started eating her breakfast without a second thought. She hurriedly finished her meal and got up to retrieve her bag from her room in order to leave her house. She was uncomfortable being under the same roof as Zayn.

"Get your paperwork ready. We're going to get divorced soon," Zayn said coldly.

Maria stopped, but she was not surprised.

"Are you leaving now?"

"In a few days," Zayn replied.

Rachel was so shocked the night before that she had to be hospitalized for high blood pressure. Zayn said he wanted to wait for his mother's health to stabilize before discussing divorce.

"Okay, let me know when," said Maria, and she hurried back to her room.

About five minutes later she reappeared with her bag. Unexpectedly, she spots a familiar figure in the living room. it was James. He looked like a scared dog with its tail tucked between its legs as he stood respectfully by Zayn's wheelchair.

"Uncle Zayn, my parents are visiting Grandma at the hospital, so Dad had me come see you," James said as he placed a box of supplements on the coffee table.

Zayn shot a look at the bodyguard next to him. The man understood his employer's signal. He picked up the goods from the table and tossed them out.

"Uncle Zayn!" James cried in a panic. "These are the best supplements and vitamins, but I can get you something else if you don't like them... Please don't be mad!"

As James finished his sentence, another bodyguard kicked the back of his knees and sent him kneeling on the ground. Maria was so petrified that she held back her breath. She did not know what was going on, but Zayn was treating his own nephew with such violence.

"My dear nephew, you must be disappointed that I'm awake now," Zayn said as he held a cigarette between his fingers.

The bodyguard pulled out a lighter and lit it for him. Maria was dumbfounded! He had just woken up the night before, but he was already drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes the next morning. Did he think he was invincible?

James's knees were in intense pain. He began to sob and said, "Of course, I'm happy that you're awake... I always hoped that you would-"

"Are you contradicting me?" Zayn said as he raised his thick brows.

His tone might seem nonchalant, but every single word was filled with murderous intent.

"Aren't you going to admit to bribing my lawyer?" He deliberately flicked the ash of his cigarette onto James's face.

He then snapped coldly, "Leave! If you p*ss me off again, I'll feed you to the dogs!" James was a panic-stricken mess as he stumbled out of the house.

Maria's heart could not settle down after witnessing the scene. She was scared. She was terrified of Zayn. Even a man as despicable as James looked like a buffoon next to him. Maria did not dare get on Zayn's bad side, and she did not want to attract his attention either. She clutched her bag and hurried out of the house.

She was going to the hospital for a checkup that day. Her period had arrived late, and it was an unusually small amount of blood. It was the first time this had happened to her. Maria arrived at the hospital and explained the situation to the doctor who then arranged an ultrasound for her.

She received the results of her ultrasound about an hour later. The scan showed no signs of bleeding in her womb. It also showed that there was a gestational sac inside of her... She was pregnant!....
