"But I don't need a friend. Just allies. Although you're still an Omega. You need to evolve in a pack if you want to be stronger."
"I'm not interested. I just want to be normal again."
"But that's not possible. And besides, I'm your alpha, but I'm not the one who bit you. I always kill my prey."
"So you just have to introduce me to the one who turned me so that..."
"He's gone."
"What do you mean?" He asked intrigued
"He's dead."
"You killed him." Nate conclued
"Calm down, don't take it the wrong way. He had already served his purpose. The wolves need to come out of the shadows. We've been hiding for too long, having to flee from magical creatures and humans. When in reality, we are a powerful species. Capable of shaking the entire supernatural ecosystem."
"I don't know what you're talking about, but your speech is getting frenzied."
"Well... It's true that I tend to get carried away too quickly. But to get back to the subject, there will be a full moon in exactly two days."
Nate asked "So what?"
"It's the night when Omega wolves undergo their first complete transformation. It's difficult for a wolf to survive and very dangerous for humans. So if you care about your sister, you'd better join us in two days in the Tollymore forest." He said, handing him his business card
"So the three murders in the forest were you?"
"Oh, just curious young people. You'll quickly understand why this kind of thing is often necessary. Well, you have my address. Young Omega."
He straightened his jacket and gave a smile.
Leaving the Omega perplexed, he complimented the architecture of the estate and finally disappeared into the distance.
Nate came back into the house and found his little sister in tears.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing... It's just..." Sobbing
"What?"
Rose replied "It's just nostalgia. I miss them, you know. And I'm scared."
"Scared of what?"
"That something will happen to you. What happened yesterday, were those dealers, right?! Nate, I have a bad feeling." Hugging him
Maybe it was necessary for him to accept Tyler's offer. By becoming stronger, he could protect his sister.
"It's okay... Don't cry anymore. Nothing will happen to us."
***Felicia POV
I had returned to my usual routine, thinking that work and studies would keep me so occupied that I wouldn't have time to think about anything else.
Thinking about Jade, the Wolf story, and especially thinking about Nate.
Jade hadn't tried to check up on me last night. He, who is usually so considerate, must be very upset.
And in any case, I needed space.
"Miss Springs."
"Yes"
"The patient I told you about is here."
I picked up his report from the table and went to join Mrs. Grey inside.
A normal patient, finally...
***
I had a pleasant morning. Thoughts far from my worries.
I could fully immerse myself in what I was doing.
Mrs. Grey asked "So, what did you think of the patient?"
"It's difficult to be a good parent. Especially for someone who was orphaned early on. It might be useful to have an interview with him and his son."
"Well, I agree with you. I'll see if we can arrange that." She said
As I was organizing documents and getting ready to leave for class, she asked me a question that made my heart ache.
"Tell me. How is Mr Sullivan doing? He hasn't been to the clinic since the other day."
"Oh um... It's been two days already since I've heard from him. But he's doing better."
"I know you didn't really follow my recommendation the other day. So, did you find anything out? I mean, is he using drugs again?"
"Mrs. Grey... I.."
Mrs. Grey interrupted me "Don't worry. My goal isn't to make you out to be a spy. That's against ethics. I just want to know if he's okay."
"Well... No, he's not using drugs. Not that I know of, anyway."
"And the attack the other night. It was the dealers, right?"
"That's right." I said
"If he was still connected to them, then those people wouldn't be trying to kill him. It means Nate might have a history that ties him to them. Money?"
She would have made a good cop.
"Yes i think."
"His troubles might be due to all that stress. Anyway, I'll try to reach him again. And as for you, Miss Springs... "
"I know, I'll be more careful" I interrupted her.
"Okay..."
"Goodbye, Ms."
I left the clinic and headed straight to campus. Luckily, I was dressed very simply. High-waisted jeans, a loose shirt, and a pair of mid-season All-Stars.
Of course, never without my bracelets.
I walked ahead without worrying about others' looks. With earphones in my ears, guided by the rhythm of the music, I sat in my usual spot and Alicia pulled me out of my bubble, "Hey!"
"You seem to be in a good mood today." She remarked
"Do I?"
The professor arrived and when I took my things out of my bag, I came across the book I had taken from the library.
I'd better return it.
A few hours later, I went to the library to return the book. And I ran into Derrick again.
I didn't see you when you came in. I thought you weren't working today.
Derrick asked "Oh, you came to return the book?"
"Yes. However, why are there missing pages?"
"Really? Let me see."
"Regarding the influential Werewolf, two pages are missing."
"I didn't notice. I'll see if we can find a solution. Besides that, did you enjoy the book? Did you learn enough about werewolves?" He said with a smile
Let's say it's a very interesting species.
Derrick replied "Yes, it's a shame that their nature is dangerous to themselves."
"How so?"
"You haven't finished reading?"
"I haven't had the time... What's the matter?"
"Very few wolves survive their nature on the night of their first transformation. Being an Omega is a stage that all wolves go through. Look."
I approached him to read.
"The first full moon of an Omega is crucial. They are subjected to their very first complete transformation, and it is so painful that very few survive."
"Wow!"
"Now that I think about it, tomorrow is a full moon night. But all this is just a myth, isn't it?!" Looking at me strangely
"Yes, probably... Well, I'll go home and finish this book after all." Taking it out of his hands
"But what about the missing pages? I should find a solution before returning it to you."
"It's not necessary. Thank you. I have... things to do."
I hurried out of the library and walked towards the biology class. I entered and joined Oliver, who was packing his things.
"Have you seen Nate?" I asked
"No, he didn't come. And I don't want to know where he is at the moment. I need to take a break."
"We have a problem, Oliver."
"Yes, I know. We need to talk about what happened and stop getting involved in Sullivan's affairs. I understand, Felicia."
"Nate is in danger!"
He smiled and added, "Nate in danger?! You mean Nate, the super tough dog who took on three attackers the other night? Don't make me laugh..."
"Let's go somewhere quieter."
He took me to his car, and I took out the book from my bag.
The other night, I came to confront Nate about what I saw, and thanks to this book, I got the information I was looking for.
"The Wolves of Newcastle? Pfff, Felicia, it's mythology. You can't rely on that to say that Nate is in danger." Oliver affirmed
"And what you saw the other night, was that mythology, do you think?"
"Okay, show me."
"Look! And tomorrow is a full moon night."
"Tomorrow? How do you know that?" He asked
"It's the librarian, Derrick."
"Derrick? There is no librarian by that name." Alicia said
"Since when have you been here?" Surprised
"I saw you, so I decided to follow you. What are you doing in this car? And who is Derrick?" She asked from the window
"The librarian."
"I was there a few moments ago, and I didn't see any Derrick."
"And I go there almost all the time. There is no librarian by the name of Derrick."
Alicia asked "Felicia, are you sure you're okay?"
I started to feel a headache trying to remember his face.
"What's happening to me?" I decided to go back to the library.
"Felicia, where are you going?"
"Felicia!!"
I walked away without paying attention to them.
"What were you talking about before I arrived?" Alicia asked
"Oh, nothing interesting." He said, following me at a run
Alicia asked, "Where are you going? Hey! What the hell are they up to?" as she walked away.
Upon arriving at the library, I scanned my surroundings. As Oliver approached from behind, I headed towards the receptionist.
"Excuse me, ma'am. I'm looking for Derrick," I said.
"Who's Derrick?" she asked.
"The librarian. He recommended this book for me to read," I replied.
She checked her computer for a few seconds before responding, "I'm sorry, Miss, but this book isn't in our database. And as for Derrick, there are only two of us working in this library."
I turned to Oliver, who had heard what the receptionist said.
"You see? There's no Derrick in this library," he said.
What did this all mean? I wasn't crazy! If Derrick wasn't real, then where did this book in my hands come from?
