Chapter 6 Relic

Saria led princess Avila to her room.

"I'm coming, my princess. I need to get something." She tried to walk out but Avila held her arm.

"My princess..do you need anything?." Saria asked, surprised.

"Saria..please come and look at me well."

Saria was confused but did as requested.

"I don't see anything amiss, wait..are you sick my princess?." She asked aloof and Avila raised her brow.

"You've been serving me since when we were children and you didn't notice any changes, huh."

"My princess..."

"Call me Avila like you always do."

Saria quickly went down on her knees, "How can I? you're a crown princess."

Avila went down with her and held her shoulders, "Look at me." She commanded.

Saria raised her head to look into her eyes, "You're such a beautiful girl, your hair and everything are so beautiful." Avila said.

"Wait! My princess, you're acting all strange..could it be..." She chuckled and looked into her eyes closely.

"Your eyes..they are beautiful. It's no more...can you see, Avila?."

Avila began laughing, Saria was so confused that she called her by her name.

"That's it. Call me Avila."

Saria bowed immediately, "No. You are..."

"Stop it. I do not want to be crowned, that crown is for Ivy. I'm just gonna watch as things unfold." She stated and held her hands.

A cold wind flew around them, her hands were cold and Avila almost froze.

"What..what was that?." Saria asked. It was evident she didn't feel the same way, only Avila did.

"I'm fine. I just felt...cold." She stood up, leaving Saria on the floor.

"Please Saria, be careful. When I touched you, I felt death around you. You're gonna be in danger from now on. I do not..want anything to happen to you, you are my only family now."

Saria stood up and smiled.

"Come on, I'm going to be fine. I know that."

"Secondly, I'm hiding the fact that I can now see, do not disclose this," Avila added, Saria bowed and walked out.

Avila went to stand in front of her mirror, she ran her hand on her face, her hair, and her body. Things she didn't do when she was blind.

"I can see, mother. What you've always wanted has come to pass." She muttered to herself and a knock went on her door.

She quickly sat down and said, "Come in."

The priestess walked in and closed the door.

"Who are you?." Avila asked.

"Drop it, princess. I know you can see." The priestess said and Avila turned.

The priestess smiled and walked further.

"Is there anything you don't know, priestess?."

The priestess laughed briefly, "I saw you blinked. The power of the staff healed you, it also unlocked so many things."

"What do you mean?." Avila questioned.

"This world, we have to lose to gain. Many things that you'll gain, but one thing close to you, you'll lose. You can't trick fate, that's why you shouldn't have given up the throne like that." The priestess said seriously.

"I'm still the keeper of the staff," Avila said.

The priestess looked at the staff on her table and smiled.

"This kingdom is yours. You're the true owner of this kingdom. Letting your sister rule is dangerous, she might decide to make you extinct one day."

"I'm being careful, priestess." There was silence, "You know priestess, I want the best for my people, I do not want war on the throne."

"War is inevitable. Even if you give her the throne, you must fight. These people are not who you think are yours, your true people are suffering in this kingdom and you must break them free from slavery." She said and turned to leave.

"What do you mean?." Avila asked, looking so confused.

"You'll understand later." The priestess said and left.

Avila stood up and took up the staff.

"What is the secret behind the throne? Why does everyone want the throne?."

....

Diana ran into Ivy's room quickly. She hadn't stopped crying.

"Stop crying, i bring bigger news." She said,

Ivy looked up, her face was mixed with makeup and tears, her mascara smeared around her eyes giving her a scary look. Her hair was disheveled and unkempt.

"Woah..you look scary," Diana exclaimed.

"Say what you want to say and get out of my room." Ivy snapped.

"Easy..girlfriend." Diana sat on the bed, "The staff chose Avila but she decided to give you the throne."

Her eyes rose, and a smile crept to her face, "Really...she did that for me?."

"Yes. But not in a way. The look I saw on her today was so strong, I nearly mistook her for someone else. My princess..she agreed to give you the throne only if you treat her well." Diana narrated.

The king stopped in front of princess Ivy's room.

"Is she still crying?." He asked the guard.

"No. She's speaking to Lady Diana." The guard answered.

"Let me in." He ordered.

Back in the room....

"She's always been treated well, does it mean we've been treating her badly?." Ivy asked.

"Yes. It meant none of you acknowledged her as a princess." Diana muttered and the door opened. Everyone looked at the door as the king stepped in.

Quickly, they scurried out of the bed and bowed. "My king."

Diana bit her lower lip and ran out immediately.

The king looked at Ivy, he stepped forward and hugged her. Ivy whined, "Father."

"I'm so sorry you had to witness that, baby girl." He consoled her, patting her hair slowly.

"I heard she gave me the throne."

"Mm-hmm...after I made her." He answered and she went out of the hug.

"You had to do that before she gave it up? what does she think she is to make you do that?."

The king shrugged and went to sit on the bed.

"Don't worry. I'll kill her when I have to. Right now, you must do something."

"What do i have to do?." She asked, blinking.

"Make her close to you and act nice. Don't provoke her in any way until you get your throne back."

She nodded, "I'll do anything for my throne."

.....

The priestess went straight to the divine hall after speaking with Avila. She went to stand in front of a lady's statue. It was a beautiful statue of the goddess of the moon, Selene. (Also known as Luna).

"You must hate me, my lady." She muttered.

"No one hates you. You brought this upon yourself." A lady's voice was heard from behind and she turned immediately.

The priestess bowed.

She was an old woman holding onto a stick for support.

"Greetings, dear deity."

"I told you, you'll suffer. You'll lose your visions until you make everything right again." The old lady continued.

The priestess went down on her knees.

"Is there any way to get my visions back?." She asked.

"Don't you remember the saying, you'll lose to gain. You lost your visions for power. You betrayed your people and subjected them to suffering, Mene was trying to make things right and you betrayed her."

"I didn't kill her, old deity. She killed herself and you know that."

There was silence.

"Leave the girl alone, her destiny is not to rule this kingdom, she's a Ngura, let her do what she wants after all the staff chose her because it was the lost relic of the Ngura's until the kings of Megadha kingdom made it theirs."

"Then, why did it work for them?Forgive me old deity, I want to know why they use the staff to make their kings."

"They know its worth. Ngura's treated the staff badly. They treated it as nothing, that was why it went to people who valued it. Now, it has chosen its keeper, and no one would monetize it again. The girl is very important, she has great destiny and will be a great leader to her people."

The priestess was shocked and when she raised her head, the old lady was gone.
