Chapter 7 The Evil

Chapter Seven: The Evil.

Alpha Ezra stood silently by the window to his office, his gaze fixed outwards as he watched the princess and the people interacting with her.

She had grown to be such a fine young woman, her parents would be proud because he knew that he is proud.

He was happy to see the members of the pack accept her, it made him feel a sense of fulfillment.

He had finally fulfilled the promise he made to her parents, to keep her safe until she is ready to take on her duty as Queen.

But he knew she hated him, he had kept her locked up for years, but it was only for her safety, the enemy needs her powers, they were too destructive, and would be disastrous if they fell into the wrong hands.

He didn't regret it, he didn't regret locking her up for all those years but what he regretted was staying away from her.

What he regretted was keeping his distance.

Whether he chose to accept it or not, he knew deep down that he blamed her, he blamed her for everything that happened.

Perhaps it was petty of him to do so but he did, the werewolves had lost a lot that night, and he had also lost a lot.

He lost his twin brother Elijah and his wife Meredith.

King Elijah and Queen Meredith, were a powerful couple, their rulership brought peace to all werewolf packs even with the Lycans because of the treaty they offered but the Lycans were too greedy, they wanted complete dominance, and when princess Serena was born, the treaty collapsed, she became the perfect weapon for them to execute their long-planned attack.

The battle Seventeen years ago was great, but due to the assistance of the King and Queen, the werewolves were able to stand strong and defend their territory, and when they finally thought that victory was assured, seven years after Serena's birth, a new enemy raised, one no one could identify, they assisted the Lycans in their pursuit for dominance and a lot of lives were lost that day, including the life of his brother Elijah and his beautiful wife Meredith.

Though the pain of their death became bearable over time, the pain never disappeared, he couldn't bring himself to look at their daughter Serena, knowing that she was the cause of their deaths. Looking at her was a constant reminder that his beloved twin brother was no more.

But now he regretted the times he didn't spend with his brother's daughter, she was never to be blamed for the deaths of her parents, but rather it was because of the Lycans, who sorted power through desperate means with no consideration whatever for the cost of it.

Serena was also a victim of their evil ploy.

He never got married, focusing his time and efforts on fighting the Lycans, but without knowing it, Serena had become a daughter to him, she was the only family, he had now, so he swore to protect her at all costs.

He glanced at the night sky, the stars were shining beautifully and it was a full moon, this made him believe that the goddess Serena was also on his side.

But he was troubled, he had been feeling restless since early that morning, even though he didn't show it.

He had sent words through his representatives to Euphraim but was yet to get any words from them. They were supposed to return the previous night but they didn't, he didn't want to take that as a bad omen but the reality of things wasn't making it look better.

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath before, he opened them once more.

"Welcome...Elders" He turned around when he sensed a presence behind him.

His gaze landed on a figure dressed in a black cloak,

"We are honored to be here Alpha Ezra," The voice of the Cloaked figure echoed in the room, like more than one person was speaking through the figure."Today is indeed a wonderful day, to be remembered in the history of our kind and we could not miss it, though we wanted to come in person, circumstances could not allow it that is why we came in this body, "The Elders paused for a moment before they continued." I see that something bothers you, Alpha Ezra, but don't take it as your uncertainty because rather it is the universe speaking to you,"

"The universe?"

"Yes, the Princess must leave the Silverfrost park tonight, or her life and that of our kind might be in danger."

"...."

"As we speak the Lycans are Invading your territory, that is why the princess must leave for Euphraim,"

"But...Elders, I'm not sure it would be safe for the princess to leave if they are already at the borders, I will rally up my men to fight,"

"No, the Evil is here,"

Alpha Ezra's eyes widened at their words.

"But...that's ..that's not possible," He uttered in disbelief."The Evil is locked up in the Oblivion."

"No it is not, not any longer, "They paused for a moment before they continued, "The Evil is in search of her light," I cry escaped their lips."We have tried to shield the borders but it is draining our energy, It is taking every life on its path, but no, it's not satisfied, we can feel its desire for her, its desire for her is great and it will not be satisfied until it has her, we know you are troubled and hesitant to let her go, you want to protect her but you must accept that the princess is of age, you will only be helping her by letting her go, the times are changing, Alpha Ezra, it is time for the princess to face her destiny, send her off with your strongest men."

"I will not let the Evil get to her."

"You cannot take it on even with all your men, it is darkness itself and with powers far greater than you can imagine, send her off with your strongest men Alpha Ezra, it is time to let her fulfill her destiny, now go, you must act quickly."

With that, the cloaked figure vanished, and the room became quiet.

He quickly rushed to the window and gazed outwards, he could see that the night was still lively, people were still drinking, conversing, and dancing to the light music in the background.

If only they knew, his eyes quickly went in search of Serena but she was nowhere in sight. So he tried to contact his beta through the pack link.

'Daniel, where is Serena?"

'The Princess went for a stroll in the woods close by,'

'Find her quickly and bring her to the throne room, send Raven to rally up our soldiers, we are under attack.'

Alpha Ezra quickly rushed out of his office, he had to retrieve the blade before it falls into the wrong hands.

"""

Serena

I inhaled the fresh air as I walked through the woods.

I was glad the Alpha Ezra kept to his words of letting me enjoy the night breeze on the night of the coronation.

I couldn't deny that I was skeptical at first but I knew Alpha Ezra was the type to keep to his words.

I needed the fresh air away from everyone, not that staying with the pack member was stressful or anything like that, it was just...

I felt slightly suffocated.

The way they looked at me, everyone looked at me with so many expectations, it became strangling at some point that I just needed to get a breather and the night was just perfect for it.

As I strolled through the woods my mind wandered to the time I enter the grand fall and stood before my Alpha.

Alpha Ezra.

Just looking at him, reminded me of my father, though the memories I had with my father were kind of blurry, just like that of my Mum.

Ever since the attack Ten years ago, I lost half of my memory, but I could not forget the warmth.

I knew I loved my parents but I just couldn't remember much about them.

Alpha Ezra and my father King Elijah we're twins, but they were complete opposites, my father was warm and easy to approach, which was why a lot of people liked him, but Alpha Ezra was cold and hard to approach, though people still liked him as well, and for this reason, I could never mistake one for other, the difference between them was as clear as day and night.

But one thing they had in common was their willingness to save their people.

My hands slowly reached out for the necklace on my neck, I moved my hands gently along it.

My parents have sacrificed so much to protect me, even their lives, and I knew it was not just my parents, a lot of other people have made sacrifices for me, and one of those people is my uncle.

Alpha Ezra.

He sacrificed his twin brother, my father, King Elijah, and his best friend, my mother, Queen Meredith.

I couldn't help but wonder if he hates me, their deaths were my fault, after all, is that why he stayed away? why couldn't he look at me?

I blamed myself every day for what happened to them, but a part of me couldn't help but feel angry for the way he treated me.

I never chose this fate, I didn't want to be born as the chosen.

But I didn't want him to hate me, right now he was my only surviving family, I was angry at him but I still loved him, I didn't just want the recognition of my people I wanted his recognition as well, but when our eyes met in the throne room, though I didn't see hatred in his eyes, I didn't see recognition either. His face had been expressionless, in other words, I couldn't read him.

"Oh!" I exclaimed when I lost my balance for a moment, but thankful I was able to regain it.

"Wow that was closed," I exhaled, deciding not to let my thoughts wander around, and focus on the beautiful scenery.

The last thing I wanted was to ruin the beautiful white dress, Lady Rachel had prepared for me.

The wind swooshed suddenly and I closed my eyes, heightening my sense, and being in a state of complete tranquility.

I could hear the sounds made by the tiny creatures of the night, the flow of a stream, and then a howl.

I snapped my eyes open.

A howl?

Though it was faint it was very evident, could it be the werewolves on patrol? were they close by?

The wind swooshed again and I shivered slightly, the uneasiness from early this morning was still there but I tried not to let it get to me.

Perhaps it was time to go back to the mansion, I thought, as turned around but then I heard a rustling in the bushes.

I turned my head backward out of reflex, focusing on my sense of hearing.

"Hello is there anyone there?"

I moved closer to the direction I heard the sound.

I had not walked very deep into the woods so I was not expecting to see any wild animals.

Maybe the Alpha sent someone to look for me, I concluded, but I didn't know why I was feeling more uneasy about the whole thing.

"Is anyone there?"

I reached out for a broken stick on the ground, my heart hammering in my chest as I drew closer to the bush.

"Ah!" I screamed slightly when a rabbit jumped out of the bushes.

I felt myself sighing in relief as I pulled my dress slightly upwards, before crouching down, in front of the bushes.

"Hey, there little guy you scared the chickens out of me," I whispered.

I giggled slightly as I tried to touch it, then it leaped forward out of the bushes, I was about to call out to it when I saw something that kept me rooted to the spot, my mouth hanging open.
