Chapter 4

JONES'S MANSION

Regina's pov

"So how was college ?" Dad curiously asks, munching on his steaks ,we were currently having dinner with tomato sauce steak , mashed potatoes and a blueberry smoothie, for dessert , a chocolate cake ,cream pie and milkshake .

Too bad I wasn't in the mood to even finish up my stake ,my mood was sour ,I guess dad noticed because he tried conversing with me , which he on a normal ground forbids ,no talking while eating , table manners .

"It was fine with Jenny and Jessy ,'' I replied , feeling uninterested in talking about my day. My mind kept wandering back to Desmond and how I almost lost control.

"You sure about that? You look down ,let me guess you didn't make any friends ,he guesses, wrongly though.

"No dad , because I didn't want to ,I just have a headache that's why I am like this ,no need to worry ,I already took some medication ,'' I say to him and his worried face relaxes a little .

"Dad ! I call nervously and he looks at me with utmost attention .

"Yes dear ,'' he replies.

"How did you meet Desmond ,'' I asked.

"Oh dear ,I was just a 21 year old looking for ways to cater for my daughter ,so I decided to get a loan from a bank and invest in it , hoping it would be successful .

"Desmond's father owned the bank and before loans could be given , interviews were done by him ,after the interview he told me he saw great potentials in me and he would instead of loaning me , actually pay me as my salary if I could put his 15 year son Desmond through what I knew ,I agreed because it was a great offer and because I needed the money to take care of you .

"Three months of teaching Desmond everything about business ,we became really close ,back then he couldn't make friends because his dad never gave him space to live a normal teenage life ,so I became his best friend ,alongside you ,each time I was tired or sick , Desmond took good care of you and you grew really fond of him ,it made me happy ,after losing all I had , including my parents ,I still had someone by my side that supported me through thick and thin ,we helped each other become what we are today.

"Wow dad ,that was touching ,I said my voice slightly breaking ,I was getting emotional and I didn't want dad to see it.

"You are welcome dear , finish up and go have some rest ,'' he said and got up to leave .

My heart was in my throat as I thought of all dad said ,the bond between him and Desmond is really strong and I didn't want to be the one to break it .

I had to do something soon ,to get rid of my stupid feelings .

Feeling exhausted ,I retired back to my room and had a cold shower.I wore my favorite pajamas and settled in bed , turning on my laptop.I needed someone to talk to ,but clearly there weren't any options.

The beeping sound of my laptop brought me out of my thoughts ,a video call from Jenny and Jessy .

"What's up girls ,'' I say to them, arranging my messy hair .

"Gina ! What's up with your moody face? Something happened at home , Jenny asks, staring at me like I had a pimple , obviously worried .

"Am cool guys ,just a small headache ,'' I replied to them .

"So why did you call this late ,have anything for me ,I inquired curiously.

Jessy giggled and nudged Jenny to speak .

"We were ... .No Jessy was wondering if you would like to bet ,she says, making me confused.

"Bet ?,on what ? I simply ask .

Jessy pushed Jenny aside and came into view , smiling sheepishly,"I suggested we make a bet on who would loses their virginity first , Jessy says and I cringe.

"Jessy , it's too soon , don't you think Jenny ,I say to Jenny who is trying to make a show on the screen .

"Jessy get off ,I wanna talk to Gina , Jenny complains ,they both kept struggling while I laughed .

"Can you just wait ,this is important ,Jessy snaps and turns to me ,"so I am not done yet Gina , anyone who loses theirs first gets a cash prize of 30 thousand dollars ,she says and my jaw drops .

"That's a huge amount , Jessy, where are you going to get that kind of money ,I question in shock.

"Forget about that ,just think about the bet ,'' Jessy says, still struggling with Jenny .

"I don't think it's a good idea Gina ,you know Jessy , she's an a**hole , Jenny curses and I laughed.

"I will think about it ,you guys should settle your scores ,see you tomorrow ,I blew kisses at the struggling sisters and disconnected the video chat .

I did a few things on my laptop and closed it , deciding to sleep .

An hour later.

One freaking hour and my eyes could not close ,I was filled with worry ,I was in between being selfish and happy , and being a good daughter and going insane.I needed someone to talk to but it was terribly impossible .

I got out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen to have a glass of milk ,that should help me sleep .

Getting to the kitchen the lights were still on ,Ronita had not retired to her room ,she was sitting on the kitchen counter going through her cookbook .

"Hi Ronita ,you are not asleep yet ,why ?'' I ask joining her on the empty stool.

"Oh I decided to go through some recipes and make something special for you tomorrow ,you didn't touch anything apart from your steaks and it got me worried ,she told me and I felt sad .

"No Ronita ,I enjoy your meals every time you make them.I was just bothered by a slight headache ,I told her and she sighs and pats my cheek gently.

"Gina ,I know you really well ,you are not being bothered by a headache ,I know it's something else ,all I want to say is ,feel free to share your problems with me ,you are also my daughter,she says and I felt the urge to tell her but I couldn't do that ,so I changed the story .

"Urm I was just contemplating on the difference between love and lust , and it has gotten me really stressed out ,I tell her half of the real deal.

"Oh sweetie ! She calls calmly and takes my hand in hers .

"There isn't much difference between the two , and I know it confuses people a lot, especially teenagers or young adults ,but it's left for you to try and find your real feelings and not get hooked on bad decisions ,okay ! She says calmly, patting my cheek .

I smiled at her words but it didn't really help that much ,this wasn't some normal crush for a boy my age ,it was a strong desire for a man way out of my league.

"You sound like you have seen such situations before , have you by any chance ? I ask her .

"Well yes I have, and I didn't just see the situation I was in the situation my dear ,I was caught up between my crush and best friend ,I was completely tamed by both but I could only go for one ,she pause and sigh squeezing my hand lightly, while I grew more curious.

"What happened ,who did you choose? I question curiously.

"Let's just say , frankly speaking I tried both ,'' she says, earning a gasp from me .

"You dated the two of them ?

"Well not exactly ,but I did try a few tests on them without their knowledge ,it was called a love test .

"Love test !, what is that ?

"It's some sort of ancient method of knowing your soulmate .

"So what happened when you did the love test ,who was your soulmate ?

"Non ! None of them were my soulmate.They failed woefully.Ronita chuckled and got off the kitchen stool.

"Get some sleep dear ,she pecks my forehead and walks off .

I sat on the stool for so long my butt began to ache , sighing. I got up and returned back to my room ,but I still could not sleep.I picked up my phone and went online , searching for the supposed love test Ronita talked about .

It was more of just fantasies ,but it worked for lucky people ,there were various list of test I could carry out ,but the maximum number was three ,there were so many options I just couldn't pick from ,few were eye catching but still too good to be true ,who knows he must have seen this ,it had a lot of views so it was useless picking from it,I decide to just pick out my own three request and wrote it in my note pad to help me remember.

*Tomorrow Desmond should be dressed elegantly in my favorite color.

*Maybe buy me breakfast in the morning.

*And definitely not possible but kiss me by the end of the day.

I stare at my requests and burst out laughing ,there's no way any of this could happen , definitely no way .

I placed my book on my night stand and switched off the light to have some sleep. Tomorrow I will find out if this love test actually works .
