Chapter 4 Jumped Off The Building

"Why are you here?" Brenda asked.

After taking the hit for Brenda, there was a bloodstain on Miguel's white shirt. However, since it was on his back, Brenda didn't see it.

Despite this, his face remained calm. He lowered his head, looked straight into her eyes, and said, "You're the one who insisted on the divorce. I thought your life would be better once you weren't Mrs. Hamilton anymore. From the looks of it, it's only getting worse. Brenda, saying harsh words is futile. In this society, the only thing that counts is strength and power."

"Is that Mr. Hamilton from the Glory Group?!" one of the rioters recognized Miguel.

This was bound to happen since Miguel was occasionally on the covers of financial magazines. Not to mention that his handsome face attracted countless women.

All of a sudden, the man who had smashed the camera staggered back, his knees shaking with fear as he realized that he had just accidentally hurt Miguel.

But why was Miguel here now?

Hadn't they already divorced? Was the news fake? Or had Miguel just come to laugh at his ex-wife?

The man in a peaked cap, the one responsible for stirring up trouble, sank his head and immediately deleted the photos on his phone before quietly slipping it back into his pocket.

He couldn't afford to offend Miguel.

"You're the one behind all this?" Brenda accused as she pushed Miguel away and took a few steps back. "Why? Are you just here to see for yourself how miserable I am?" She made sure to stay as far away from him as possible. She knew that as long as she was near him, misfortune would befall her.

Seeing her movements, Miguel furrowed his brow as he sneered, "Am I such a villain in your eyes?"

"Aren't you?" Brenda retorted, raising an eyebrow. "You threatened me to donate blood to Veronica by using the Sanchez Group's business conditions numerous times! You're more shameless than any villain that has ever existed!" Brenda made sure to stress the word "shameless" with much vitriol.

For a second, Miguel was stunned. His cold, indifferent face grew darker and darker until his assistant arrived at the scene.

"Mrs... Oh, Miss Sanchez. You misunderstood Mr. Hamilton," the assistant tried to explain as he handed a document to Brenda.

"Mr. Sanchez has already given forty percent of the company shares to the Glory Group in advance because of the debt. If Mr. Hamilton wants to make trouble for the Sanchez Group, then he'll also be making trouble for himself!"

Hearing this, Brenda's eyes widened in disbelief. "Forty percent of the shares? That's impossible..."

Instead of taking the document, she looked up at Louis, who was on the verge of collapsing. She couldn't believe it. That meant the Sanchez Group had changed its chairman.

At this moment, Louis' heart ached so much that he could hardly breathe. He had expected that even if his assets were transferred to Miguel, they would be the joint assets of the couple. That meant that the Sanchez family would still have a share.

So, when he heard that Brenda and Miguel got divorced, the dream he had in his mind shattered into smithereens.

Louis closed his eyes hard and took a step forward.

"He's jumping off the building!" someone screamed.

Before Brenda could even realize what was happening, she caught a glimpse of a person rapidly falling down.

A dull thud echoed in the open space as the person hit the ground hard.

Brenda ran to where the man had fallen and saw Louis. His body was twisted and disfigured beyond recognition while his face was drenched in blood.

Suddenly, the entire world around Brenda stopped.

As much as she complained about Louis, at the end of the day, he was still her biological father. Slowly, she came to the conclusion that the cause of her biological father's tragic death was the man she once loved the most.

Somehow, she remembered all the disappointments she had experienced during her marriage to Miguel.

With her mind blank, Brenda lost her footing and almost fell to the ground. A deep hatred was etched into her face.

Miguel had never seen such hatred. Seeing that she was about to fall, he instinctively stepped forward to catch her. But a sharp and harsh voice screamed at him, "Don't come near me!"

Brenda's eyes burned with such hostility that she gritted her teeth and seethed in anger. "Are you satisfied now?"

She looked like a completely different person than what she had been like back when they were still married. The sight of her exposed hatred made Miguel feel uncomfortable.

He thought she was asking about what had happened to the Sanchez Group after their divorce. So, his face darkened as he said, "You're the one who proposed the divorce. Isn't it a bit too late to regret that now?"

"Regret? Who told you that I'm regretting anything? I won't pick up the trash that I've already thrown away!"

Brenda tried to suppress the pain flaring in her heart as she stared daggers into Miguel's eyes. A sneer was also starting to form on her face.

All of a sudden, Miguel's tall and straight body stiffened. The anger burning in his eyes was so strong that it could incinerate any person standing in front of him.

Seeing that expression on his face, Brenda felt a little better. She walked up to him and said with her remaining strength, "Mr. Hamilton, be smart and get out of my way."
