Chapter 5 Mark of the dead

As I stood there staring ghostly at the mark, I was terrified. How did it happen?

Who is he? And why would he mark me?

I have a mate dammit.! I exclaimed in rage dragging my mum's attention.

"You okay there, Kat?"

"Um. Yeah." I breathe out, turning to face her.

"You look, terrified. Are you sure, you're good?"

"I am mum." I returned my eyes back to the mirror.

"Your mark is beautiful. I was surprised when I saw it, a Mark of an element. Any elements mark like the sun, moon, stars, and others could be acquired only when a potential alpha or alpha bloodline mates with you. Do you think he is one?" My mum ask and I froze.

My heart literally flew out of my chest. The Mark is not from Zavier. A dead being marked me. I heard myself screaming inwardly but I couldn't bring myself to tell her.

"Maybe." I shrugged, doing my best to hide my fear, especially my tears.

My mum nodded." He must be from a very powerful alpha bloodline. Alphas always have one of the elements. And the elements an alpha acquires after mating depends on how powerful they are."

"Really?"

"Yes. Sun is the most powerful of all the elements. The moon and stars depend on the sun for their nourishment, so, any alpha who obtains a sun mark after mating belongs to the most powerful alpha bloodline. Moon is next, followed by the stars. But I have never heard that any alpha had a double element." I panicked.

What does it mean alphas don't have double mark elements? Oh, God! Who was he?

I watch my mum's eyes widen briefly in fear, she blinks severally before facing me."It happened long ago. When I was still a pup my mother told me a story about an alpha king who mated a vampire, and they acquire the double element sign as their marking symbol." She paused contemplating whether to continue or stop.

Seeing the conflict in her eyes, I spoke out."What happens after?" I asked,

"His mate died after giving birth, and the alpha become a rogue killing and eating other werewolves. He was killed."

"And the child?"

"They were afraid he will be worst than the alpha, he was put..." The swift opening of the door cut my mum's words short.

My father stood there staring at us."Honey, you're back." My mum intoned happily, stood up to meet my dad.

They met halfway and my father embraced her, kissing her lightly.

I turn back to the mirror to stare and stare at the mark once more before pulling my dress to cover it.

I walk back to the bed.

"My weak daughter finally brace us with her presence." My dad mocked. His lips stretched in a mocking smile.

"Dad, please."

"You fainted after mating with your mate, is your wolf that too weak that she couldn't withstand the mating process?"

I bite my lips hard, trying not to burst out. Only if they know that Zavier didn't mark me. But I can't tell them that. My dad and sister would mock me and would also arose questions about the mark symbol on my neck.

I have to play along. Not that I have a choice anyway.

"What were you two saying before I came in?" He ask changing the topic and not bothering to mock me again which I was grateful for. My mum must have signaled him to stop.

"Katrina has two elements mark symbol so I was a bit worried if Zavier is from the heartless rogue alpha bloodline."

My dad laughed, waving my mum's word off." It was hilarious. There's no way he is and besides the goddess must have pitied her weak wolf and ugly self and decided to give her something rare from others."

"There's no way the goddess would be blind to mate a weak wolf like her with a powerful alpha from the rogue alpha's lineage. It's impossible, so don't worry about it. And besides, it happened long ago. His son wasn't even allowed to live, you know what happy to him "

My mum nodded."poor child." She mumbled but I heard it.

"What happens to him?" I ask not bothering to hide my curiosity.

My dad opens his mouth to tell me but my door is open and my sister badge in."Oh my God, dad! You're back. Come let me tell you, I've got lots of gists." She breathe happily and my dad followed him not even sparing me another glance.

Of course, what should I expect? She is the favorite after all. Everyone liked her. She's the one with the strongest and prettiest wolf while mine is weak and ugly too.

My mum seeing how to hurt I am moved closer and hugged me."Its okay baby don't cry. You're unique in your way." She cooed.

She moves out of the embrace and kisses my forehead. " Will be going to the kitchen. Come down later for lunch okay."

I nodded and watch her leave. Now I am alone in my room. I let my tears fall without holding them in.

How did my life change within the space of two days? I thought of what would happen. How Zavier will feel after knowing that I am mated to an unknown man? A skeleton in a coffin box.

Will he still want me? At the moment he hates me, what will happen when he finds out a strange man marked me?

My eyes burn as more tears flow out.

"Katrina wakes up it's time for school." I heard my mum's voice boom. I flap my eyes open as it came in contact with the clock.

Shit! I curse.

I only have 30 minutes before class begins.

I quickly jump out of the bed and rush to my bathroom, taking a quick shower and dressing up making sure I cover my mark.

I grab my backpack jogging down the stairs. I make sure to properly conceal my mark with makeup before juggling down the stair with my bag and phone.

"Kat, you should eat before leaving."

"No mum. I will eat at the cafeteria." I yelled before hurrying out of the house not daring to look back.

I was lost in my thought that I didn't even know when I Reach the school not until the driver called me.

I usually go to school on the school bus while my dad drove my sister to school every day. The most time my mum.

The only difference is that my mum would carry me as well. But my dad would never let me seat in his car, rather he would give me money to take a taxi. That is, if he is in a good mood, else, I trek to school.

But not when it comes to my sister. He took her to school and most time even pick her up after school time.

While I was abandoned to die after all my sister is the favorite child with the prettiest and strongest wolf.

When I step down from the car, I saw Lina waiting for me outside the gate with a huge smile on her face.

Immediately she saw me she rushed to me. "The new mate in town. The only soulmate of our school sweetheart." She teased and I smile sadly.

"What's wrong?" She asked, concern written all over her face. She must have noticed the look on my face and known that everything isn't alright with me.

She's my best friend after all. She notices even the tiniest thing. That's how observant she is.

"Did he do anything, awful?" She added when I didn't say anything.

"Nothing," I answered lowly that I wonder if she heard me. But I know she did. She's a wolf after all.

I walk past her, moving inside swiftly trying to avoid more questions from her. I can feel it. She has lots of it and I wasn't in the right state of mind to answer them.

When I got to my locker, I open it and put my bag in, picking a few notebooks which I needed for today's lesson even though I doubt I will listen.

I close it back and begin to head to the class while Lina follows behind me while yelling I should talk to her.
