Chapter 3 So You Still Remember

Nora arrived at the hospital in the early morning, and when she stepped out of her mother's ward, it was 2:30 a.m.

Apparently, if one was at a hospital at 2:30 in the morning, it must because that something terrible had happened.

Doctor Lloyd was on the late shift this night and exchanged several words with Nora.

He told her that her mother must undergo surgery as early as possible.

In the dark corridor, the woman squatted down in despair. Nara thought she was always a good girl from her childhood, even though her parents loved her ardently. She never became a haughty person due to the indulgence she was given.

Since when had everything gone haywire?

Nora's father was imprisoned for the debts, her mother was suffering from a life-and-death challenge, and her family company was hollowed out by someone. Just as she thought she eventually got the money her mother's surgery needed, she learned that the money was actually from...

Involuntarily, Nora clenched her fists.

After wiping away her tears, Nora stood up and intended to leave the corridor for her mother's ward. However, an unexpected figure blocked her way. "Sorry, excuse me..."

The person remained motionless at Nora's words. Thus, the woman lifted her head and was surprised to see Alex, who she had met several hours ago, standing before her with a gloomy facial expression.

She intuitively shrank back, and the man clearly witnessed her movement.

Chet Hunter, Alex's secretary, was standing next to Alex, and Nora knew him.

Chet seemed surprised to meet Nora at this place and stared at the woman unblinkingly, greeting her by saying, "Mrs. Hoffman..."

Upon hearing the title, Nora immediately sneered, replying, "Don't call me Mrs. Hoffman. That's nonsense."

Nora wanted to flee the scene. However, Alex did not give her a chance. Chet disappeared under Alex's instruction. Then, Alex forcedly pressed Nora against the wall and said in a cold voice, "You cruelhearted woman. You almost sterilized me and ruined your happiness!"

Nora found the man's words ridiculous. As the hospital was quiet at this moment, anything they did would be easy to be detected by others.

"Alex, don't go too far. This is not a place for you to fool around!"

Nora had not assailed the man about her mother's surgery. How dare he make a punitive expedition against her instead?

After a contemptuous snort, Alex reached out to stroke Nora's thin lips, saying with a frosty expression, "It seems that you are an unyielding woman, aren't you? That's fine. I'll wait for you to compromise."

Then, Alex let Nora go. The woman hurried towards her mother's ward like she had survived a disaster, and the man soon left as well.

The next day, bad news came.

"What? Move out of the hospital?"

Early in the morning, Nora was shaken awake by the nurse and could not believe what she was then told.

The unmistakable voice of command in her ears told her, moment by moment, how dire her current situation was.

Even Doctor Lloyd was shocked by the news. "Nora, I am sure that you've definitely offended someone. You'd better take a step back. If any accident happens to your mother at this critical point, all our previous efforts will come in vain."

Listening to the persuasion and advice in the early time of the day, Nora could not help but fall into helplessness and bewilderment.

Clearly, it was Alex again!

Why did the man show up when she had already lost interest in seeing him again? Why must he make things difficult for her?

Nora had deleted Alex's number and WeChat from her cell phone long ago. Suddenly, she thought of the number she used to contact the so-called client before learning that it was actually Alex. Thus, she swiftly dialed the number.

"Hello?"

As expected, the man's mellow, somewhat hoarse voice soon came from the other end of the line.

Nora eventually understood why the man who claimed to be willing to pay a high price for getting a baby always contacted her through text messages.

How stupid Nora was that she never called the man to confirm his identity.

"What the hell do you want to do? Hound me to death, don't you?"

Alex had embarrassed Nora repeatedly in the past. Was that not enough?

The man currently owned the entire Stock family. Why was he still not satisfied?

After a while of silence, Alex replied to the furious woman, "Nora, accept the half a million yuan and make a child with me. Then, I will let your mother off the hook."

"Why? Just for a child?"

Alex chuckled, saying, " I'm fine with two children as well."

Nora lowered her eyelids for a second, took a deep breath, then exhaled. "Fine, I agree. I agree. Are you satisfied now?"

Alex's pleased voice reached the woman's ears. "If you nodded in agreement earlier, all the drama would not have happened. You know that?"

"Alex, you forced me. It was not my own choice!"

At the woman's words, Alex let out a soft smile, replying, "So, Nora, you still remember that."

Nora's body temperature quickly dropped by several degrees, and she immediately understood what karma was.
