Chapter 5 The Conundrum (Part I)

"Beep, beep, beep."

Camille was awakened by the ringing alarm and abruptly opened her eyes, with the white ceiling coming into view.

It turned out to be a dream.

Camille anxiously sat up, held her forehead, and wiped the cold sweat off her forehead.

It had been more than six months, but the experience had turned into a haunting nightmare of hers.

Cherry Smith walked in and asked worriedly at the sight of her pale face. "Miss Davis, did you suffer from that nightmare again?"

The alarm clock was still ringing. Camille switched it off and patted her face, replying with a question as she was unwilling to talk about that subject. "Cherry, any news from the private detective you commissioned?"

Cherry shook her head helplessly, "Not yet."

Camille said to herself, "It's okay. They have deliberately hidden it from us. Naturally, it's nothing easy to find it out."

They went to the dining room and ate meals while watching the morning news. Cherry seemed hesitant to say something.

Camille sipped her porridge and asked, "Go ahead."

"Miss Davis, do we really have no way to speed up the signing of our project with Soaring Group?"

"Someone pushes us to pay debts?"

"It's not just that. As the project stalls, the schedule keeps falling behind. Our situation... You know, without Soaring Group's endorsement, we are really struggling with every step. On the day of the project roadshow, the young master of Soaring Group readily agreed to the project, but now why is he reluctant to sign the contract?"

Of course, Camille was clear about their situation.

That day her life was hung by a string on the cliff. As Will pressed the engine button and started the car, she was one step away from dropping off the cliff and being smashed to pieces.

But in the last second, Jade and Will gave up killing her.

They did not push her off the mountain, but it did not mean that they were willing to let her go without a scratch.

Camille was bruised and left alone in the desolate hill for days before she was found by a passing car.

After she was saved, she heard the news of her expulsion from the Davis family.

Camille rubbed her forehead, "I guess it is another person who is still unwilling to sign the contract."

"Another person? Who?"

"Anthony Williams."

Cherry was surprised, "Anthony Williams, Vera Williams' father? How can that be possible? The Soaring Group is in the charge of the young master of the Armstrong Family, isn't it?"

"The Armstrong Family and the Williams Family have been competing for the control over the Soaring Group. Due to Philip Armstrong, the young master of the Armstrong Family is recently entangled in scandals, his family is losing the support of the majority, and Anthony should have pounced on the chance."

"So, do I need to beg for help?"

"Anthony?"

"No, I'm going to beg Vera."

"Idiot, maybe it is Vera who asks her father to suspend our project."

If begging were helpful, Camille would have done it.

Camille was expelled from the Davis Family for 'dishonoring' the family, and on the day when she was trapped in the hill, word had spread that the reason was that Camille seduced the fiancé of Jade, her half-sister.

Since then, Camille had turned into a person who lost everything and a mockery in Silk City.

Camille was unclear what made John change his mind at the last minute.

All she knew was that after Will started the car, John suddenly asked Jade to stop.

Jade was so enraged that she had a tense argument with John on the phone. She asked John the reason, but the latter was determined without any explanation, so she had to give up killing Camille.

After Camille was found by a passerby at the cliff and sent to the hospital, she received a cold warning from John that if she wanted her brother Bruce Davis to be safe and sound, she needed to be silent about what happened to her and left the Davis Family.

It was only at that moment that Camille was sure the reason that John had spent years planning to get rid of her was to take over the Davis Family.
