Chapter 8 Stance of Pleading

He looked down at the photos on the ground, slightly narrowed his eyes, and stepped on them. When he lifted his head, a smile resumed on his face.

"Mr. Fields, since Lisa is on good terms with you, you can certainly take her away."

Following that, Herman turned to leave.

Lisa took a good look at the photos under Zach's feet and turned to catch up with Herman...

From the entrance, Zach watched the black Bugatti go off, stooped to pick up the photos, and threw them into a trash can.

In the car, Lisa couldn't restrain from turning sideways to Herman who sat in repose with his eyes closed.

"Mr. Fields, kidnapping and attempted rape are enough to put Zach behind bars. Why didn't you call the police?"

As soon as her reproachful voice came out, Herman opened his eyes, looked at the indignant woman, and responded slowly.

"If everything is that simple, you wouldn't have ended up like this."

He was certain that once he called the police, Zach would make a false countercharge, claiming that Lisa went to retaliate against him right after her release from prison.

Zach was backed by Sanders Pharmaceutical Group whereas Lisa was penniless. She couldn't even afford a lawyer and the legal fare. What made her think she could confront him?

Besides, Herman was a businessman who sought nothing but profits. Even though Sanders Group was in poor business, a lean camel was bigger than a horse. He had never thought of making an enemy for the sake of a woman.

His remark was like a slap in her face. Lisa immediately took a tumble. Indeed, she was impetuous.

"Mr. Fields, I'm begging you for your help. I'm willing to do anything in exchange."

It was the first time that she ever begged anyone like this.

Herman's eyes looked teasing and disdainful, "What do you have that is worth my help? Your body? Appearance? Or your hymen?"

Lisa's eyes flickered. His every word revealed the indelible fact but hurt her self-esteem and pride.

There were so many women with better figures and appearances in this world. Indeed, he had no reason to help her.

In despair, Lisa turned sideways and looked out of the window, "Then why did you save me?"

...

Herman didn't answer.

The following trip was quiet and silent. Lisa didn't snap out of her grief and reminiscences until the car pulled off steadily in front of a private villa...

Daniel got off from the driver's seat, walked around the front, and respectfully opened the backseat door for his boss.

Herman then got off. Lisa hesitated and then hastened to catch up.

Herman suddenly halted his steps towards the gate, turned back, took out a black purse from his pocket, produced a wad of red notes, handed it to Lisa, and spoke in an attractive, cold, deep voice.

"Is this enough for you?"

"Is this charity?" Lisa frowned.

"No, sympathy."

Slap...

Behind them, Daniel looked incredulously at the thin woman and soon lowered his head, pretending that he didn't see anything.

Herman's hand hung in mid-air, and the banknotes scattered all over the ground. Her eyes were tinted with anger and frustration.

"Herman, if you really take pity on me, you shouldn't have given me money!"

Herman narrowed his eyes slightly and sounded stern, "People should know their limitations. Low life should bow their heads whereas supplicants should assume the right stance of pleading."

Lisa stiffened, her eyes flickering. Despite her abjection, she maintained her pride.

Did he want her to kneel and beg him?
