Chapter 2 Tuesday's Bring Terrible Dreams

Tomas woke up in his bed but something was not right. He had not slept in this room for seven and a half years. He climbed out of bed and walked into the kitchen and there she stood cooking breakfast for him was his wife. It couldn't be as he knew that his wife was dead. Marie turned around and walked over and kissed his lips and asked him if he wanted a cup of coffee before he headed back to the police academy. Tomas asked what day it was and she laughed at him and told him that it was October 4th of the year he graduated from the police academy.

Marie reminded him that it was Sunday and he had to get back so he could finish up his last week of the academy. As she was saying this to him his memory flashed back to the day he got tased in the academy. They had gone over all the material over how tasers work and how to deploy them but now came the time to get tased. Each cadet had to draw from a bucket of how they would be tased and Tomas drew legs for his. The taser instructor walked up and gave Tomas a simulation pistol and told him that when you get tased shoot as many times as you can before it ends. The instructor then walked behind Tomas and called taser taser taser and then it was like getting frogged in the back of both thighs right after the pop from the taser and as the barbs hit their targets. Tomas could feel the intense pain going through his legs as he pulled the trigger on the pistol until the five seconds of riding the lightning was done. At that very moment that he remembered getting tased Tomas felt like electricity was running through his body again.

"Clear '' Trent heard the doctor say as he stood in the hall of the ICU while the doctors and nurses were working on Tomas. He had just coded and they had just shocked him and brought him back by the sounds of the monitors that were hooked to him. Trent breathed a sigh of relief and said a little prayer asking whoever was watching out for Tomas to keep him fighting and to keep him here. Trent talked to both of Tomas's sons Jake and Wade and had told them that he would keep them updated on their dad's condition but that their dad would not want them missing school for him. Sarah had gone with Wade to the house to get stuff he would need to live with them for the next few weeks at least until Jake got out for Christmas break from the University where he was getting his masters. Trent was tapped on the shoulder by a nurse and told that Tomas was back stable and that he could go back in and sit with him. As Trent sat down all he could think about was when he first had met Tomas, Tomas had joined the Sheriff's Office and was in the academy and Trent was the taser instructor for the academy. After getting tased Tomas and made Trent laugh when he made the comment I bet I can piss lightning after that ride. They all had a laugh about that one but Trent knew that day that the oldest cadet going through that academy class had just made himself a new friend and Trent was grateful for their friendship.

Tomas blinked and he was at his Police Academy graduation and he was dressed in his Class A uniform and was marching with all of the other cadets in the graduating class. He may have been the oldest cadet but he had stayed right with those young guys and his age and experience had helped him through certain things. Tomas listened to the speech as if it was the day that he had graduated and then felt pride in watching his wife Marie walk up and pin his badge on him during the pinning ceremony. This was Tomas's second career but his wife supported him no matter what. Just like on the day it happened his wife walked up after the graduation and kissed him telling him how proud she was of him and what he had accomplished. As he opened his eyes from kissing her he knew where he was and he felt the kick in the stomach that he had not felt in the last year but this was the nightmare he had lived through many times and he knew it was about to happen again.

Seven and a half years ago---

The fair and rodeo was one of the highlights of the county that Tomas and Marie lived in. It was one of the biggest in the states and almost was bigger and better than the state fair. Since they had met Marie always wanted to go to the fair and rodeo each year and not just one night, they usually averaged four or five nights. The rodeo was PRCA sanctioned so there were always really good performers there and the fair board always brought in really good singers for a concert each night of the fair. This would be the first year that Tomas and Marie would not be going to the Family night at the fair as Tomas was on shift and would not be at the fair that night. Marie and talked several of her family members to go and their two boys would also be attending the fair but like most teen boys it was not cool to hang out with mom so they would be hanging out with their friends. As he was getting ready to go onto shift Marie was getting ready to go and was making fun of how he got ready. How he always tied his right shoe before he tied his left. How when he put his duty belt on that he put his belt keepers on from the left to the right. But once he was fully dressed she never forgot to kiss him and tell him that she loved him no matter what. After kissing her he gave both his sons a hug and walked out of the door getting into his unit. Marie called him a couple minutes later and told him that she would eat an extra big bag of cotton candy for him since he would not be there to do it. He laughed and told her to not get sick and then let her go as he pulled into the Sheriff's office for briefing. The briefing was like any others where they were told that off duty deputies would be working the fair and that there had been reports of a wanted subject staying at a trailer park and then to make sure to sign up for fair shifts if they were going on days off. Tomas was told that he would be working in the south part of the county which was away from the fair but he didn't mind. He told his friend and shift supervisor Trent that he was going to stir the pot that night, meaning he was looking for an arrest just so he would have a reason to go north. Trent just shook his head and gave him a fist bump telling him to stay safe and make it back home. They left the office each heading in a separate direction.

Marie picked up her sister, mom and aunt and they headed to the fair. They were excited to see all the fair entries and to listen to the popular Christian band that was going to be playing that night. Marie's boys had rode in Jake's truck and were planning on riding rides at the carnival that comes to the fair and hanging out with friends. Marie told them to be safe and that she loved them as she pulled into the parking lot of the fair grounds. Marie and her family went through the different exhibits at the fair, ate a lot of the fair food and then headed towards where the concert was to take place. As they were getting their seats three Black SUVs pulled into the parking lots near the three main entrances. They were in dark suits and their faces were painted white and heavy body armor. Each was armed with an AK47 as well as a SOB-12 Tactical shotgun and each carried a Glock 19 in a tactical holster, each had a satchel with multiple mags in them. They were looking at their phones waiting for the green light from their boss. Tonight the world would learn about the new player that was coming to the US and that was the Los Muertos Cartel. A text came out that not only went to their phones but phones in three other cities in New Mexico but four cities in each of the following states of Arizona, Texas, California, Louisiana, and Florida. Marie turned her head when she heard loud pops but the concert had just begun so she did not think about anything else.
