Chapter 5 TV show interview

Selene didn't think that Matteo would wake up all of a sudden. She was so startled by his sudden voice that she almost threw away the phone in her hand. She turned her head to look at Matteo, who had sat up in bed, and tried to explain herself. "The phone kept ringing, and I didn't want to wake you up..."

Matteo snorted, walked over to Selene, and snatched the phone from her hand and pressed it against his ear. "What is it?" he asked harshly.

The assistant on the other end of the line gulped in fear and repeated what he had just said. Matteo sneered, "I'm not giving any interviews!"

Without waiting for a response, he hung up the phone.

Selene didn't dare to make a sound for fear of upsetting him again.

Matteo went back to bed. Selene stared at him, wondering why the news station was so hell-bent on interviewing him. The finance channel only interviewed CEOs of the top three local companies, didn't they?

And today, she had overheard Mr. Shedrach saying that Matteo's company was on the verge of bankruptcy.

Selene's curiosity was piqued, but she didn't have the guts to ask Matteo about it. He would definitely scold her for prying.

Selene shook her head, lay back down, and forced herself to forget about what had happened.

The following morning, she woke up early. To her surprise, the bed was empty. She couldn't help but smile bitterly, knowing that she would fail the mission Mr. Shedrach had given her. After all, she doubted her nominal husband would listen to her. In fact, it was clear that he didn't give a damn about her.

After washing up, Selene went downstairs and greeted Emily politely. The latter just nodded indifferently and didn't bother to say anything. Emily had always been rude to her from the first day she met her. She never cared that since she was in a relationship with Dante before. But now, things had changed. Selene bet that Emily was among the happiest people who was glad the engagement between Selene and Dante didn't work.

As soon as Selene sat down, Emily sneered arrogantly. "Go and make breakfast for the whole family. Cassandra's coming over today. We must entertain her well."

Cassandra was coming?

In an instant, the horrifying scenes from last night reared their ugly head in Selene's mind. Wincing slightly, she tried to refuse. "Mom, wouldn't it be better to leave the cooking to the maids?"

Emily's eyebrows shot up in surprise. She didn't expect Selene to refuse. "Just who do you think you are? In my eyes, you're nothing but one of the maids. If you don't want me to call your father over to teach you a lesson, go and make breakfast now!"

Selene felt upset. The undisguised disgust on Emily's face made her feel even worse. She dared not refuse her request again and walked despondently to the kitchen. It took her over an hour to prepare a hearty breakfast fit for the whole family.

By the time she served the food on the table, Cassandra had already arrived. She was all dressed up, sitting elegantly in the living room and chatting lightheartedly with Emily. They looked close, like family.

Seeing Selene with the food, Cassandra shot her a malicious smile and then continued to chat with Emily as though Selene was just an insignificant maid.

The table was set for Emily, Cassandra and Selene.

The men of the Shedrach family were not at home, and Grandma Lilian wasn't feeling well so she didn't come out for breakfast. Thus, it was just the three of them who sat down at the table.

Emily turned on the TV and puffed her chest out proudly. "Dante was invited to an interview today, and I think he'll be on in a second. Cassandra, look at how outstanding your man is!"

Cassandra beamed proudly. "Yes, I've always known how amazing Dante is."

As she spoke, Cassandra shot Selene a provocative look.

Selene ignored her. Instead, she looked at the man on TV with great interest. Dante looked so neat, from his slicked back curly hair to his dark brown eyes.

On the show, the host introduced Dante to the audience with enthusiasm.

"Ladies and gentlemen, as promised we have Dante in our studio today. He's the CEO of Sherd Ventures, the second largest company in our city. Let's give him a warm welcome," the host said with a bright smile.

"Nice to be here. Unfortunately, the CEO of the number one company, Robinson Cooperation, is not here on the show with me. I thought I'd finally have the pleasure of meeting this mystery mogul. But that's okay. I hope I'll be enough to entertain you all today," Dante answered crossing his leg.

"How does it feel to be the one of most successful man in Athens?" the host said.

"Well it feels amazing but don't forget that the load that comes with it is quite much, sometimes I just want to leave it all to my staff but what can I do, I am a CEO and I need to work" He answered politely.

"Yeah, I understand. A lot of companies are aspiring to work with you, what do you have to say about that" she asked again.

"Well it took hard-work to get to where I am now, if they are that hardworking to the point that we can notice them then a partnership is certain. After all hard work always pays off" he answered with a quote not sounding too proud about his status in Athens.

"Amazing, let's just leave the business aspect. There are a lot of questions about your love life. You've proposed to the girl you love, haven't you?"

"Yes. And we're getting married soon. I honestly can't wait," Dante said, smiling dotingly at the thought of his sweet fiancee.

"So how does it feel to be with the woman you lov? Do you really think she is the one for you?" she questioned based on the audience's demand.

Everyone was quite eager to know if his fiancee was really worth him.

"I don't know how to explain this but life without her would have been meaningless. She made me see life differently and stopped me from making the wrong choices in life. I wouldn't be what I am today if not for her. Proposing to her was the best decision I have ever made in my life and I have never regretted that" he replied amicably making the audience feel emotional.

"I so much love it. So how many percent will you say, you actually love your fiancee. Like on of 1- 10" she asked.

"Uhhhm, I would said a 1000/10, like I said she is my life and the only reason why I am still breathing. If you are watching this Cassandra then know that I love you so much and I can't live without you, you bring out the best in me that no one else has ever done." he commented.

Back at the Mount Villa.

When Selene heard Dante confess his love to Cassandra, she felt hurt about it.

She ought to be the one he was talking about. She was the one who had been there for him all these while.

"I love you too Dante" Cassandra's voice said loud and clear, she turned back to find Selene sitting there in a daze.

She smiled."My Dante is so loving and considerate that he could profess his love to me on the news. Oh, gosh! I'm sorry, Selene. I totally forgot to tell you that Dante proposed yesterday and I said yes."
