Chapter 7 The truth

I flattened my hands on the plaid skirt of my uniform cringing at the socks I had to wear as they restrict my toes, my brown hair is packed into a neat bun not a strand out of place, I looked pristine and so out of place.

My eyes flickered a few feet to my mother who stands giving me an approving look as she glances me over.

'' I don't think I am ready for school ''

I mutter quietly looking down at my feet, she comes closer taking my hand into hers and staring at me like I hung the stars, I never understand her, some time she is loving and protective and another she ignores and even goes as far as being destructive if I come across her, the scar on my hand is a proof, I don't think my mother is okay, it has been two weeks since that fight and phone call but I have not seen my supposed father

'' that's all you ever wanted Amelia, home schooling can be frustrating, being stuck at home studying at every second, it is time for you to make friends and have the best experience ''

She grips my hand in assurance, she had cleaned up herself well even after getting drunk last night, she seems so perfect on the outside but her mind seems to be a troubling mess.

'' and your dad is going to be here for breakfast, isn't that exciting ''

She said in a cheery tone bringing me out of my thought

'' Dad!''

I stutter staring at her with wide eyes

i felt my anxiety creeping to me, the thought of finally meeting my father is unexpected and scary, the only impression I have of him is that night.

'' come on, let's get you some breakfast ''

She smiles cheerily whistling a tone as she skipped out of my room, I grind my teeth at the fact that my mother might just not be as perfect as she looks.

I walked down the stairs admiring the mansion a little more, the cjandeliere bathing the entire space to the wall hangings and furnitures, the high ceilings were massive and the tall windows showcased the grand view of the landscape, it felt like something out of a dream, walking down the stairs with the chef and maids standing by the dinning table staring at me,my mother's eerily eyes on me, and my dad's gaze on me like he is preparing for the worst case scenario, I felt important, I could do whatever I want and no one would complain. It was definitely not intentionally when I slipped on my last step down the stairs.

Just like I expected, they all came rushing, forgetting whatever had them occupied and fussing over me, I smiled catching my mother and father worried glance, there was nothing to worry about, they definitely care about me.

'' I am okay mum, seriously ''

I walked over to the chair trying to reassure them

'' you should be more careful Amelia, maybe we should have floors changed, we don't want you slipping on these floors ''

'' mum, I am really fine, we don't need to change anything ''

I smiled, my stomach grumbles at the sight of the food in front of me, it is like a feast, so many options, it felt like I have never eaten so many food before in my life

'' I would be dropping you at school today '

My dad breaks the silence halting his hand mid air in cutting into his breakfast

'' really, that would be great dad ''

I smiled

'' I wish I had spend more time with you but my schedule doest not permit me to, this is your personal card, you can get whatever you want ''

I took hold of the black card issued by the central bank, a single name engraved on it

Amelia

My hand traced it feeling a sense of apprehension wash over me.

'' thank you ''

I mutter gripping the card in my hand

The door slams open catching my attention, five men in suit like that day follow right after each other holding a black suitcase

'' you can place them in my study ''

My father dismiss them, they nod disappearing around the corner

My eyes linger on them, the curiosity gnawing at me to know what is in that bag, I glance at my mother who is eating with no care in the world, she looks carefree not even glancing at anyone around her.

''Are you done Amelia, you are going to be late ''

I snap out of my thought looking at my father towering figure before nodding slowly .

''Of course ''

'' I will see you later mum ''

I said

She looks up before waving quite energetically, I could see my dad from the corner of my eyes let's out an exasperated sigh

'' your mother can be quite an handful Amelia, but she is not always like that ''

I withdraw my gaze from the window, my father sits right beside me, his laptop on his thigh as he types away

'' what ?''

I question

'' she was so devastated when you ran away from home, she was never the same anyway, she still blames herself till now ''

He turns his full attention to me

''You never told me what happened, why did I run away from home and how did I get into that accident ''

''You only know what you think you know, let's focus on you getting better Amelia '

He pats my shoulder before going back to his work.

I sigh looking out the window, would I ever get my memories back, why did I run away from home and how did I get into an accident, how did my parents not find me even when its obvious they are influential, my memories are the only I can know the truth and right now I don't have them.
