Chapter 9 Adrienne

Mr. Tanaka was reminding Adrienne about her duty...

"And you know exactly that a male in the Empath family lineage must be the alpha, the one who provides protection for the true Empaths like yourself, my lady. Now to answer your question, I suppose your father did his duty very well as an alpha in his hotel chains. Otherwise, you won't be fulfilled doing your duty making a bit part of poor land, a bit better. Though I believe you're doing a great job with great impacts."

Though Mr. Tanaka wasn't a member of the boards, his words were quite strong with wise knowledge.

" Indeed, your father is a better Empath than I felt when I was around him, but he was an even better alpha to choose between the unnecessary and important people to run the hotel chains. After all, he's the alpha of other alphas for the CEOs. And I believe it's your turn to do your real work as an Empath, my lady. The hotel chains are solid. The best umbrella foundation for your best good deeds."

Adrienne took a long and deep breath, she tried to hide her sighing though she knew Mr. Tanaka would sense her weariness.

"I may sound exhausted, Mr. Tanaka. But don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the future ahead."

"That is what most expected from you, my lady." Mr. Tanaka smiled while hiding his doubt. Though he knew Adrienne could sense it, the smile and the words told otherwise. That he believed in Adrienne.

"Come, my lady. I suppose you need your warm bath and fluffy pillows to rest your aching neck and back from that long flight," Mr. Tanaka waved his left hand to direct the way followed by Adrienne's steps to the black Maybach.

-Adrienne-

"I miss you, dad."

I stood there staring at Keanu's working desk. I could smell the sweet sense came from the highest quality mahogany overlaid with dark brown almost maroon exclusive color.

What I saw before me was an opposite of what I had in the Main Land. I was a student after all, taking teaching as a hobby. Nothing was so fancy with being a student and a private teacher.

To be honest, I was scared to death to know that the burden of the Crane Hotel chains lied on me. But then again, I wouldn't need to worry because practically the hotels empire ran by itself.

Dad's years of working hard, had finally paid off. The hotels empire was completely a perfect umbrella foundation to any charities or philanthropic events that I'd like to hold for the betterment of human kind.

Though dad and I weren't ordinary human after all.

No ordinary human would be able to sense others' feeling precisely and made the good use of them. Whether it was to calm them or to show them the right path to take.

My smart phone rang and I saw the number. It was detective G. He insisted on me to call him by his first name, John. But it felt so weird to me to call a stranger by his first name. Especially if the stranger was doing an investigation about my dad's mysterious death.

What was weird to me, John had a last name that started with 'G'. And when I asked what the 'G' stood for. He simply answered it by saying,

" It's just Gee, my lady. G-E-E. " He had to spell it that made me look so stupid.

Well what do you expect, I was a weak Empath that I knew nothing but others' feelings from touching. Even I still needed to touch the person that I would want to know the feelings.

Detective G said that his name came from the long line of supernatural investigators. Others might think that my dad was attacked by an animal. Because the Imperial Colony was notoriously famous for its wild and fierce nocturnal animals.

Days could be the heaven that you could enjoy a cup of Joe in a small cafe's terrace. But nights in the Imperial colony were nightmares you didn't want to trap yourself into. Thus, I needed Detective G. So, I picked the phone up...

"Yes, detective? " I started the conversation longing to know the newest thing found about my dad's mysterious death.

"Evening, my lady. Just to let you know that we haven't got any new clue about your dad's mysterious death. I'm still gathering the canine troops to find the killer." He explained.

Why so slow?

My mind screamed. It had been two weeks! Without any progress. If I could I'd burst at him, but he was the best supernatural investigator they had in the Imperial Colony.

Arrgghhh... I might want to roar just like his canine troops.

I couldn't stay too long in the Imperial Colony, I had to get back to the Main Land, exam was coming. I'd have to control the investigation from the Main Land, so I said,

"If that would've been the case then, detective. I'd have to go back to the Main Land coz my student's life needs the attention. Exam is coming, sir. Please keep me updated, will you?"

I might sound like begging, but I was giving the order. So, he said,

"Oh no worries, my lady. School absolutely needs to come first. I'll keep you updated with the investigation. And also, there's someone I'd want you to meet. An apprentice of mine who will lead the investigation when I'm not around..."

What now? He's leaving? Darn it!

My mind would like to throw things at anything and anyone including him, so I confirmed,

"Why should you introduce other, are you leaving?" I was hoping he wasn't deaf enough to hear the sound of my voice being extremely desperate.

"Oh no, my lady. Only to let you know that we expand the search of the potential places for the killer. I'm going south and my apprentice will go north. His name is Daniel, he'll be at your door in 5 minutes..." Detective G sent someone new to my dad's main mansion like he was sending a casserole to the neighbor next door.

"Ok, det..." I hadn't finished my sentence yet...
