Chapter 4 Mate

I was taken aback when I realized my wolf was howling with pleasure. But somehow, I was feeling afraid; I did not want to turn back. I was scared for a specific reason.

'That was..... his voice...'

It was the same voice I had heard in my dreams. It was the same voice that tried to kill me every night in my nightmares.

I felt the man getting closer to me. My closed eyes flung open. His footsteps struck my ears from behind, accelerating the already rapid pounding of my heart. Unease slithered down my spine. I was struggling to breathe.

I slowly turned my head to the right. In the darkness behind me, I could see the man's shadow. The man was standing behind me with his well-built body and a dark aura. Exactly like the man in my dreams.

I didn't think anything and shook my head. In the dark, I glanced ahead and started to run away.

I heard the man's footsteps. I did not stop.

The area was massive, with some windows open and the wind blowing. The window blinds were preventing me from running. But I pushed the blinds and continued running.

I was running for my life. I should not have come here. I didn't know my dream would haunt me here. I kept telling myself that it was just another nightmare.

"It's a dream. Don't worry; you will wake up soon." I was running while whispering to myself.

I was fleeing to save my life, just as in my dream. The difference was that I used to run through the dark forest, but now I am running through the Lycan Manor.

All of a sudden, I experienced a pull. The man successfully grabbed my hand and pulled me behind.

I closed my eyes tightly and started to push him. But the man pushed me against the wall near a window. I felt pain in my back because of the sudden push.

"Who. Are. You?" The man asked me again with a cold voice.

I could feel his breath near my face. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at the most handsome face I had ever seen.

His face gleamed in the moonlight. Dark hair, fair skin, and dangerous yet beautiful eyes.

I stared at him and wondered why his face seemed so familiar to me. I had never seen this man before, but I recognized him. He was the man I saw in my dreams.

The man was looking at me with his dark eyes. "Are you deaf?"

I heard him but could not reply to him. How could I? I was completely frozen. My eyes were wide as I gazed at him.

The man frowned at me. I let out a gasp. I assumed I enraged him.

The man moved slightly and examined me from head to toe.

I blushed when I saw he was eyeing me.

The man shook his head. "So, how did you get here? Now, answer this question before I kill you. I know you are not deaf because you would not have run away like this if you were."

I was terrified when I heard he was going to kill me. "I-I..."

"Stop stuttering. I have many other things to do besides coming after you," he spoke through gritted teeth.

"I-I came he-here for va-vacation," I replied. I could not help but stammer again.

He raised an eyebrow. "Vacation? Do you think this is a tourist spot where people come to spend their vacations?"

I shook my head immediately. "No, no. I didn't mean that."

"Then tell me. Who are you?" He got close to my face and looked at me with dangerous eyes.

I wanted to say my name, but my wolf started chanting, 'Mate. Mate. Mate.' as if answering his question.

My eyes nearly popped out in shock. My hands and legs were both shaking as I listened to what my wolf was saying.

"M-Mate?" I asked while looking into his eyes.

The man did not appear surprised by my response. But it was not an answer; I was confused. I asked it with confusion.

But why was he so indifferent? As if he had known it from the start.

"What is your name?" He asked me.

Anyone could tell from his tone that he was not pleased at all.

"A-Alina B-Brown," I replied, scolding myself for stuttering again.

"Still stuttering. Such a weak Omega!" He uttered.

I could feel tears in the corners of my eyes. I was not weak. I spent five years without my parents. I lived alone while working throughout the day and night. How could he say that I was weak without knowing me?

"Who allowed you to come here? Did you get permission from the Lycan king to enter here?"

I shook my head. "No, he is not here. He is out of the pack. But I got permission."

"From him?"

"No. His mother gave me permission to stay here. I know I should get permission from the king, but he is not here. I heard he won the war and will be back soon. I will ask him about it when he gets back."

I gazed into his eyes. He was somehow amazed at her answer. A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

"Do you know the king?" He asked.

I shook my head in response. "No, I don't. But I am sure he will be arrogant, just like his father."

The man's expression had changed. He tightened his jaw. "What did you just say?"

I pressed my hands against my mouth and looked at him, shocked. I thought he was a well-built man, so he was one of the fighter wolves.

'Did I just mouth off about his king in front of him? Will he get angry and kill me?'

I got some courage and said, "Li-Listen, mate. I was ju-just talking nonsense. Please don't mind my words. The king is a really kind man, and his father is very softhearted, just like a cotton ball."

I was babbling, without realizing what I was saying.

The man sighed and stepped away from me.

He looked at me one last time and said, "Go to your room now."

Then he went forward to the area as if he were living here.

I looked at his back. I was feeling the same fear. I wanted to ask him the same question he had asked me, but I did not dare. The way he told me to go to my room was as if he was ordering me.

I watched him until I could not see anything in the darkness.

I lowered my head and turned around to walk back the opposite way. I exhaled and thought,

'Who are you, Mate?'
