Chapter 5 Chasing

WHEN I arrived at my office I almost fainted when I saw the pile of papers on the top of my desk. That's why I felt like I wanted to regret that I came here today in my office.

I just stretch my neck and then I'm lazily sat on my swivel chair. I looked at the papers one by one and I could hardly decide which one I should prioritize first.

"Oh my God sir! You're here! Thank you and this time i can finally say that what you have said earlier was legit!" Bethany exclaimed that I was not even aware of her presence.

"Tsk! Just shut up. All right, I assure you that I am doing my best today." I answer jokingly to her.

"Oh here's your coffee, sir!"

"No thanks, by the way, Michael and I had a cup of coffee before I arrived here." I simply glanced at here to see how she would react. I secretly smiled as I caught the sudden sour mixture on her face after I mentioned my friend's name.

"Well, that's good! I'll just drink it sir." she said then she immediately sipped my coffee.

"Have you eat your breakfast, Bethany?If not, you can use my card so you don't have to spend your money." I insisted.

"Wow huh! I think my boss is so freaking generous today! How about my salary? Could you please give me that in advance, sir?" She smiled at this remark.

"Sorry to inform you but we'll be having a delay of salary this month. But, don't worry, Michael is always there for you. For sure, he will lend you any amount of money that you needed."

"Tss! I really hate his freaking name!" She said while her tone is full of irritation. "Oh before i forgot sir, please give me your card now." she returned to my desk and both held out her two hands. "By the way sir, i just want to make things clear huh. I am going to order my breakfast and lunch huh." She added so that I just blinked.

She just yawned and then without any word, she continue to leaved. But when she was about to touch the door knob, when Jayson suddenly came to my mind, so I called Bethany again.

"Wait a minute. Actually, i've change my mind now! Maybe, it'll better if i call Jayson. I am going to order our foods. Then, I just ask him to deliver the food to my office. Isn't that a good idea?"

"Tss...It's up to you sir! I'll just go back to my table now. Just call me when you need anything else." Annoyed, she said and left me but she still carrying my cup of coffee.

I was in the middle of what I was doing when suddenly Bethany appeared in front of me again. She frowned as both arms crossed.

"Oh why?" Astonishedly I asked her.

"Sorry for the inconvenience sir, but there is a demon who is looking for you!"

"Huh? Who? Is that Jayson's waitress?" I asked her.

"No!" I looked at her with full of frustration.

"Then, who?" I asked her again.

"Maverick is looking for you sir."

"What?" Suddenly I stood up and to my great surprise I even slapped my poor table with my hands.

"Sir, shall I let her in here? The guard has been asking for her to leave before but she's still trying her best just to see you."

"No! I mean, don't let her in! I'll be there in a few minutes."

"Okay. Just call me sir, if you need a back-up huh." She said while winking at me.

I hurriedly go out. Then, I saw Maverick arguing with the guard.

"Guard, you may go back inside. I can take care of her." The guard immediately let go of her and Maverick ran immediately to me.

She was about to hug me but I quickly avoid her. That's why her nose almost smoked in annoyance with me.

"What are you doing here? Are you going to make a trouble again?" I shouted with full of irritation.

"Nico, I don't have any bad intentions. And I also don't intend to cause trouble here. I just came here to explain about what happen to-"

"Maverick, everything is clear to me now. So can you, please just leave." I calmly plead with her.

"No! You haven't even heard my explanation yet!" She still insisted.

I stepped closer to her.I even hold both of her shoulders so that i can be able to look straightforward in her eyes..

"Maverick, you know what kind of attitude I have. And you also know what evilness that i can do everytime i felt angry to someone else."

"Nico-"

"I hope that this is the last time that we talk like this. So please don't wait until my anger towards you get worse and I might forget that you were also became a part of my life!" I kept talking to her.

"I love you so much Nico. But there are lot of times that i felt so bored in our relationship. I tried my best to become a good and caring girlfriend to you. But you just keep on ignoring me." She said while her voice was slowly shaking.

"Really? You love me?" I laughed at what she said. "Do you know the true meaning of the word, love?" she was quite for a moment and then she slowly bowed.

"Just go home, Maverick Because i've already made up my mind and nothing will change my decision." I added, that's why she started to cry."

"I'm not yet done explaining my side, Nico." She said while crying. "You can't blame me for what I did. You know, it's really hard for me that everytime we're having a special date, you're still talking about business and you don't have enough time for me. So what are you expecting from me?"

"But that's not a valid reason for cheating on me, Mavy! I gave you everything! You're condo, expensive dress, shoes and bags! Isn't that enough?" I asked her with full of anger on voice.

"Nico, you did not really understand my point!" she exclaimed.

"Oh, c'mon. Then, what? Are you referring about s*x?"

"Tss...you're so smart when it comes to business but you're so dumb when it comes to a relationship." She added.

She's about to add some, but I decided to get back in my office.

I can't stand to hear those words coming from her. Maybe she's right. My whole life focuses on business. That's why all of my ex-girlfriends, had lost interest in me.

I continue to walk and then, I saw Bethany, busy and seriously organizing some documents that I had signed earlier.

"Oh, what happen to your ugly face, sir?" she said in a sarcastic way.

I just shook my head in response. Then, silence prevailed for almost a couple of minutes.

That silence was only broken when Bethany said that she's going home early.

The only thing I could answer to her was just a nod. I didn't even wonder where she was going. I chose to keep quiet first. But, suddenly her cellphone rang and it was on my table. I couldn't help but glance at it. I was even surprised by Michael's face registering on the screen.

I pretended to see nothing. And when he answered that call, I confirmed that my friend and my secretary were getting along well. I secretly smiled about on what I have found out.

IT'S already five o'clock in the afternoon and i decided to go home now. I hurriedly put away my belongings and when I got in my car i find my self smiling secretly while driving the way to Jayson's restaurant.

When I arrived, my eyes immediately searched for his waitress, Maze. But i couldn't find her. That's why I was so disappointed.

"Sir, what's your order?" That sexy waitress approached me.

"Uhm...I want to taste your kare-kare and-" My speech was interrupted when I heard Maze's gentle voice. I looked around to find the owner of that voice. But I just failed.

"Si-sir, are you all right?" The waitress asked me.

"Huh? Uhm ... is it okay if Miss Maze should be the one who takes care of my order?" I've seriously plead her.

"Oh sir! Miss Maze isn't on duty today. She just came here to assist our VIP costumer at the other table."

The waitress sighed as she pointed to Maze's whereabouts. It was busy serving the two costumers who were at the other table and I knew they were a couple.

"Then, kindly tell Miss Maze that I will double the payment and the tip that the two costumers given to her, as long as she takes care of me at this time."

"Sir! Are you serious?"

"Yes! Do I look like I'm joking?" I ask her again.

"But sir, I can assist you." The waitress was still standing in front of me.

"I've changed my mind Miss. Maybe I'll just came back tomorrow morning." Then I bid goodbye to her.

I intentionally passed by the table where Maze was. And I barely hit it on the side of her hips just to get her attention.

"Hi!" I greeted her with a big smile after she looked at me.

"Uhm sir, It's you again! By the way sir, there's still a vacant table at the right side of this restaurant. Just sit there and I'll call the new waitress who's on duty today." Her voice sounds like confused.

"No! Actually, you're really what I meant here."

"Huh? Why me sir? Actually, I'm on my way home so I can't take care of your orders." she answered formally.

"Then, i will give you a ride." I insisted.

"Sir, I don't need it anymore. I'm used to ride on a bus." She said that while playing the ends of her hair.

"Well,starting today I insisted that everyday, Iwill take you home."

She looked at me seriously even though his whole cheek was turn again in to color red.

"Sir, please don't be mean, but I'm not comfortable if there is a man around me. So please, don't try to get closer to me." Full of sincerity she pleads to me.

I just nodded and I silently looked at her, leaving.
