Chapter 4 Second Encounter-Awkwardness

IT'S already three in the morning, but drowsiness doesn't even visit me. I also ran out of a bottle of wine but it didn't eve work for me. I tried to call my friends but none of them answered. After all, who else is awake at these time. Maybe it's just me who still wake.

Next I tried to call my secretary, Bethanyy. I called her three times before she was able to answer it.

"Why did you call sir? You're so early to disturb me!" Her answer was full of irritation.

"Tsk! You're so mean to your boss!" Supposedly I was complaining. "By the way,I just wanted to ask you regarding the papers that i need to sign in? I thought you ate going to deliver it in my condo?"

"Oh my gosh sir! If you called just to find out if your plan worked, I hope you didn't bother anymore because I didn't go with Michael! In short, your plan is useless!" she made a strong statement.

"What are you-" I hadn't finished what I was going to say because she suddenly t

end my call.

I tried to call her again but her number was already un-attended.

Laughing, I just sat on the side of my bed. Then I realize that I was in the middle of what I was doing. I interfere in the love life of others while I can't fix my love life.

I haven't slept yet. It was six o'clock in the morning when I glanced at the clock hanging on the wall of my room. So I decided to just go to Jayson and have breakfast at his restaurant.

I was there in a few minutes. I was even shocked by the faces of Jordan and Michael when I saw them on the restaurant.

"Buddy!" Jordan shouted as he looked at me. I smiled at him and then i went straight to their table.

"You're so early, huh!" Michael sat next to me when I sat down next to him.

"Tss...i think, you're more than earlier than me!" My complaint. I saw Jayson is coming while carrying a tray full of food.

"Bud, haven't you slept?" Michael suddenly asked me. I just shook my head in response to him.

"But why? Hmm...let me guess? You haven't slept because, Maverick went to your condo just to see you. Am i right?" Michael added, causing me to look up.

"How did you know that Maverick came to see me?" The only response i get from him was just a shrug. So I kept thinking that Bethany and Michael went to my condo last night? But a while ago, my secretary told me that she did not go with Michael.

I just smiled. Maybe Bethany was just ashamed of me so she keep on denying it.

"Oh, why are you laughing alone?" Jordan and Michael asked me in chorus.

"Oh, don't mind me, I just thought of something."I answered them.

"Asshole!" Jordan whispered simultaneously.

"Let's eat!" Jayson exclaimed as he got closer to our table.

"Wow! Is it free foods,buddy?" Jordan was amazed after seing the food.

"Stupid! You always just hope for free!" Jayson said after punching Jordan's arm.

"Tss! There's nothing new about that. He had an extra money that reserved only for women but for food, well, it's nothing!" Michael interjected.

"Hey! I'm not the only one here who likes to grab free foods and services!" Jordan complained while pointing out on my direction.

"You're really crazy, bastard, Jordan!" I shouted to them but they just laughed at me.

Sometimes, I wonder why this is the kind of friends that I have. But I never regreted that they came into my life. We have been friends since college. We finished the same courses but it came to the point that even after we finished they still chose to study again to pursue their dream. As for me, here I am stuck in our own company.

Maybe, if my parents hadn't passed away so early, I would have preferred to study law again because that's really my dream but I have to put it aside for the sake of the company that my late parents inherits to me.

I just gasped at those thoughts and then I focused my full attention on food again.

"Bud! One more rice please!" Jordan ordered to Jayson.

"Tss...greedy! Breakfast, huh! It seems like your lunch and dinner are also included."All of us laughed.

"Maze!" Jayson called his waitress at the other table. She turned her back on us even she's busy putting away the food.

"Infairness huh! You've memorized the name of your waitress ." Jordan said.

"Of course! After all they're here every day, so it's not impossible for me to get to know my staff even with their backs turned."

The waitress slowly walk towards us. I frowned after I saw the woman's face. I blinked a few more times and tried to remember where we first met. Her face looks familiar to me.

"Why sir?" The woman asked gently.

"Please bring us here another cup of rice." Jayson ordered her.

"All right sir." The woman was about to leave when I suddenly shouted.

"Miss, wait!" she looked at me in shock. Even I was surprised at myself.

"You?" The woman's voice was still slightly raspy.

"Do you know her buddy?" my three friends said in chorus.

"Yeah, I mean, we've met before but I just can't remember where and when it was." My explanation is serious but, it seems that these assholes are not even convinced.

"It's nice to see you again sir! Just wait for a while and i am going to get your coat from the locker so that I can return it and so that you can remember how we first met." The woman's words were full of sincerity. After she mentioned about the coat, I just remembered that she was the woman I helped last night.

I just nodded to her in agreement.

"Miss Maze, can I have my rice first? I'm starving now." Jordan's plead using his sweetest voice ever.

"All right sir! I'm sorry." The woman apologized accompanied by covering her face. I think she suddenly felt ashamed and disgusted because she quickly turned her back from us and I knew her cheek, turns into color red now.

"Maze, kindly asked another waitress to serve the rice here. To be honest, i am doubting the way my friend talks to you!" Jayson said, causing the woman's face to blush even more.

'' Sir, sorry. I'll serve your order now." She was suddenly confused by what Jayson said, so she quickly leave us.

"Bud, how did you met Miss Maze?" Michael asked, who had been quietly listening to us before.

"Yes buddy!" Jordan added that he was obviously determined to meet Maze.

"Gossiper!" I shouted on Jordan's face.

"Hey Nicolo!" Jayson's voice seems like threatening me. " Maze is a very kind and very hardworking woman. So, don't you dare to tempted her coz, she might lose focus on her job." Jayson added with another threatening tone.

"What are you saying? Do I look like a womanizer?" I asked Jayson while laughing.

"It's not about being a womanizer, buddy. It's just that, it looks like Miss Maze has a special feelings with you!" He was still teasing me.

"Tss! I don't know what you're talking about? You better warned Jordan, because i'm sure that tonight your waitress will suddenly disappear!" I tease Jordan which makes them laugh even more.

Our joke was interrupted when my cellphone suddenly rang. I immediately answered that after seeing Bethany's name registered on the screen.

"Are you planning to come in today or do I really need to bring these freaking documents to your house?" she growled at me. Instead of being annoyed, I laughed because she didn't even manage to say hello to me before saying something bad.

"You have a lot of works here!" Bethany added.

"I'm your boss! Remember?" I reminded her.

"I don't care!" she insisted.

"Don't be bother with that because I'll take care of all the paper works today." I said seriously just to stop her from complaining.

After Bethany called, I bid goodbye to my friends. I hurriedly go to the parking lot and when I started the engine of my car, Maze called me.

"Sir!" He shouted loudly. That's why I slowly looked at her.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I just wanted to return your coat." She said as she raised my coat.

"Oh, sorry. I don't even know that you are following me. Actually, you don't have to return that. After all, I still have a lot of coats at home."

"I can't sir. You just lend it to me so I have to return it to you." she said loudly.

"Okay, then. By the way, stop calling me" sir " it is too formal. Just call me Nicolo, okay?"

"I don't want to sir! I'm more comfortable calling you in a formal way." She is so damn stubborn, huh. "Besides, I would also like to apologize to you for my behavior last night." She added and still remained bowed.

"Uhm, I will only believe that you are more sincere if you tried to apologize to me while looking straight to my eyes. ''

"Sorry sir, but i don't want to!" she still disagree about my idea. "Here's your coat sir. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for keeping me safe." She said again, then after i'll get the coat from her, she ran away from me.

I just bite my lower lip after knowing her behavior. I can't figure out if she's just really shy with me or she's just too scared to talk to men.
