Chapter 6 Poisoning

The next morning, when going to work, Lily went to the women's restroom near her office. This is where there are no cameras in the building, excluding the CEO's office. She walked into a room, closed the door, unbuttoned her shirt, and pulled the poison pill from her bra - she hid it here so security wouldn't find out. She would put it in her coffee and then give it to Max to drink. Lily should not have resorted to this method – she wanted him to die a much more painful death – but in anger after what he had done yesterday, she changed her mind.

As she exited the restroom, she asked a female employee, "Hey, did you see Mr. Baker come to work?"

"Yes," the girl replied. "But just now he went out to do the boss's assignment."

"Thank you," Lily said, feeling relieved. Without Ray's presence, it would be easier for her to strike.

Finished brewing coffee according to Max's taste that the senior told yesterday, Lily quietly dropped the poison pill. Then she carried it to Max's office door and knocked.

"Come in," said Max's voice, the same familiar deep voice she'd heard. But Lily suddenly shivered with both nervousness and fear.

She pushed the door and walked in.

"Here's your coffee," she said.

Only now did she realize that there was another person in the room. It was a boy at first glance about 5-6 years old sitting on the sofa. Max was sitting on the floor tying the boy's shoelaces.

"Leave it on the table for me," he said, still concentrating on tying his shoelaces.

"Is that your son, boss?" Lily asked. Although she investigated him, she did not know this.

"What?" Max exclaimed in surprise, turning to look at her. His face looked like he was about to burst out laughing.

"I'm not Max's child," the child replied in a sly voice. "I'm Michael's child."

"Oh, is that so?" Lily said. Michael is Max's brother.

"Uncle Max is not married yet. He's tough," said the kid again. His face was smiling, it seemed like he was an open and active child.

"Am I tough? Okay, let's see, I'll give you back to your mother, not letting you go out anymore." Max threatened the boy, then slung him over his shoulder as if he was going to do that.

"Don't, Uncle Max! I'm wrong. I was just teasing you!" The child shouted and laughed at the same time.

Real trouble. Lily found herself sighing, it seemed the plan had failed again. She picked up the coffee that she had just placed on the table and was about to take it away. She didn't know what would happen if she left it there. If this naughty child drank it, she would kill an innocent child by mistake. And she couldn't just go and tell Max to drink.

"Hey, where are you going?" Max suddenly asked.

"I... forgot the sugar," she made up an excuse.

Afterward, Lily made another cup of non-poisonous coffee and returned to Max's office.

"Are you... stressed?" Max asked suddenly as she set the glass down on her desk.

"What? No, it's not," Lily said, a little startled. Did he realize something shady?

"Don't worry," contrary to her concern, Max said, looking into her eyes with his blue-gray ones. "The job of a secretary is simple."

Did he think she was nervous because she hadn't adjusted to the job? Lily suddenly felt funny. A murderer like him is so kind?

"Play with me," the boy suddenly pleaded with him by the arm.

"Come on, Tony. Play with this girl, her name is Lily," Max said.

So that day Lily was constantly busy taking care of a child named Tony. The child ran out of faucets she took to walk around the company, to make her play this game after that with him. Lily was a bit annoyed at first, but thanks to that, she was able to observe the surroundings of this building. And it's been a long time since she's been with such an innocent and innocent child. The innocence of the child made her temporarily forget the stress of calculation and hatred in her heart.

"Tony, why did you come here? Don't go to amusement centers have more games?" She asked the boy.

"Those places are fun but I miss Max," Tony said, his voice sharp and his eyes sparkling. "My father is fierce, my mother is always busy. Only Max loves me and often plays with me."

The moment she heard Tony talk about Max, Lily suspected that he was talking about someone else. How could a cruel, demonic human being who had killed for his own sake like him love others? But maybe it's because this is his brother's son that's why.

"So do you like me?" She smiled and asked the kid.

"Of course," Tony said, taking her hand, cheerfully. "Lily is a very gentle and fun person. I like you. I think Max likes you too."

"What? No, it's not like that," she denied, shaking her head, not understanding why she had to say that to a child.

"Really. I know Max. I can tell just by looking at him!"

"Haha, is that so?" She laughs. This kid looks so sharp. Lily thought to herself, maybe Max let her babysit him to see what kind of person she was.

People are always caught off guard by children. Fortunately, she hadn't done anything suspicious until now.

***

After work, another employee came to take Tony home. Lily breathed a sigh of relief. She cleared the mess on her desk that Tony had laid out earlier. She was putting everything to return home when she suddenly heard a voice behind her.

"Is the boy too naughty?"

She turned to look. Max was standing at the door looking at her. Then he allowed himself in.

"No problem. Babysitting is better than fighting anyway," Lily replied, trying to sound casual. For some reason being alone in the room with him made her nervous.

"Aren't you thinking of anything other than fighting?" Max laughs. Tony was right, he seemed to really like her. It wasn't anything special, but it was clear that he was attracted to her.

"Like what?" she asked, looking at him with innocent eyes.

"Like going out to dinner with your boss," Max said casually.
