Chapter 5 You look happy, sir

Max didn't lie to Lily. He'd never done it in the office, so early in the morning. He has a lot of work to do. But the moment he saw her in that outfit, he couldn't help it.

Last night, Ray - his close assistant - sent him information about Lily Ross. She was an ordinary girl living in an ordinary apartment in the middle of this city. The only special thing is that she dropped out of college midway because her mother could no longer support her. Her mother married another man, and her father died when she was young. This explains her need for a high-paying job. And the fact that she knows martial arts is because her father was a soldier in the past, a friend of his taught martial arts and lent her a gun to protect herself. Her mother is an amateur singer, remarried to a musical instrument store owner, and has no interest in her daughter anymore.

Everything makes sense, but can't convince Max. She didn't look like the girl of an ordinary family. Furthermore, by the time Lily finished his glass of wine, she had said, "I am very rich. I just want you." Earlier, when they had sex, she even said she loved him. Who is she, and what is her purpose? He hadn't concluded yet, but she especially pleased him. He hadn't felt this comfortable in a long time.

Now he was sitting in his office checking some papers. Lily went out to meet human resources.

"Knock knock knock." There was knocking on the door again. This fast three-tone knocking is for one person only.

Without waiting for an answer, Ray opened the door and walked in. He had his vest loosely draped over his shoulders, his blue tie pulled to one side, as sloppy as ever.

"The drug possession case is sorted out," he said evenly, setting down a thin file on Max's desk. "Here's information about James Keller, there are others who can order assassinations..."

Ray suddenly stopped talking and looked at Max inquiringly.

"What?" He asked.

"Sir, you look happy," Ray said. "There are a lot of people who are trying to kill you."

"Haha," Max laughed. "Fine. The more enemies I have, the more popular I am. Life is so boring these days."

"I saw Lily Ross in the HR room a while ago," Ray said, ignoring his rhetoric. "I heard you made her your secretary. You don't mean anything to her, do you?"

"Of course yes." He shrugged and said. "She reacts quickly and knows how to fight. She's a good secretary and bodyguard."

"You don't get what I mean," Ray said harshly. "I see you seem to like her. I know saying this will make you angry but as a loyal assistant, I---"

"All right, stop!" Max interrupted the talkative assistant's speech, raising his hands in surrender. "I'll watch out for her, okay?"

"You shouldn't go to these places..." Ray said flatly again as if he didn't know the boss was going to explode, pointing at the map on the table.

The first thing Lily did when she returned to her beloved apartment was to lie face down on the bed, burying her face in the pillow. Although her plan was going well, today was a terrible day. Her body was exhausted, and her lower body was still uncomfortable. Lily lazily sat up with her eyes still closed, she had to take a shower to wash away the sticky sweat feeling on her body.

When she opened her eyes, she discovered that there was a man in a black suit standing looking at her.

"Ah-" Lily yelled, her arms over her heart, breathing heavily. "What the hell are you do-"

She dropped the sentence when the man put a finger to his mouth signaling her to be quiet. Then he pressed something on his phone and then held it up for her to see.

"Listening device" was what he just typed.

Lily nodded. She turned her back and checked her surroundings. After making sure there was nothing, she said, "No."

"Forgive me," Samuel said now, smiling at her. "I can't go to your house properly, it's easy to get suspicious."

"It's okay," she waved her hand.

Samuel Hall was one of the closest people who had worked with her father like Uncle Leo. He was thirty years old, with brown eyes and brown hair, tall, smiling, but intimidating. He is the owner of a large corporation and has done business with Max Thompson a few times. However, they are enemies. In terms of personality, Lily found Samuel to be very careful and sensitive. She didn't like him very much, even a little wary. There was a time when she saw him brutally tormenting his subordinates because they did not complete their mission. But since he has never done any harm to her and Uncle Leo trusts him so much, she considers him a friend for the time being. Three years ago, he also helped her learn martial arts.

"How's your plan going? I heard Max Thompson has hired you?" Samuel asked.

"Yes, things are going well," Lily said, smiling confidently. She didn't like to admit that she was in trouble with anyone.

"Don't look down on him," Samuel said in a low voice. "That guy is very cruel, just one mistake can kill you."

Lily felt a shiver when she heard that. Of course, she didn't look down on Max Thompson. He is very unpredictable. She couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"I think you should find the weakness of Ray Baker, his subordinate. Once I get rid of this guy, it'll be easier for you to kill Max," suggested Samuel.

"Okay, I'll keep an eye on him," Lily said. In her mind appeared the image of Max Thomspon's assistant. He looked unremarkable at first, even a little sloppy, but the sharp look in his eyes made her shiver. When they passed each other in the human resources department that morning, he said to Lily, "You look familiar to me." At that time, she pretended to be scared and whispered to him, "I dance at bars a lot. Don't tell the boss!"

"You look a bit tired. I'll take you to relieve it!" Samuel suddenly changed the subject.

"No need," Lily smiled, getting up to go to the bathroom. "I also have to research the work so I don't get suspicious."

As she passed where Samuel was, Lily tripped over something and lost her balance. Samuel grabbed her waist, preventing her from falling. But she suddenly felt a pain in her waist.

"Ah, it hurts," she cried, quickly reaching out to remove Samuel's hand.

Dammit. Looks like her waist was bruised. When Max did it to her this morning, he held her waist very tight.

"What did he do to you?" Samuel immediately understood the problem. He told her, his eyebrows furrowed. "Don't try too hard. I can help you kill him."

"No," Lily stated emphatically. "I should be the one to kill him. I want him to die a painful death!"
