Chapter 5 Episode

CHAPTER FIVE

•••PRESENT DAY•••

CAMILA'S P.O.V

God, why are my hands shaking so much? I squeeze out the water from the hem of my shirt that has been soaked and wipe my brows with the back of my hand. I take my attention back to the boiling pot of pasta and I mix it so that it won't stick to each other, like babies will to their mother.

"It's going to be fine." I kept repeating to myself.

They are "notorious". They were the most disruptive siblings in the school, and almost all the teachers were helpless against them.

I can't believe that I am so scared to meet these kids again; even when I occasionally have met Jack whenever he comes to check up on Kitana in my class. Kitana is a sweet girl. But I'm afraid to meet her brother. God bless me !

I already know that they won't like me even though I have tried so much not to be bothered about it. I hope they like my pasta and I hope that it makes them feel more loving towards me. It's very funny that I desperately want them to like me. Reminiscing the narration Kevin had given me yesterday, I could tell how much was on his shoulders.

I hear the front door open and I feel my heart jump on the inside of me. I felt myself beginning to judder. I hear their voices and I get even more confused. I will have to handle them alone because Kevin had gone to work. This is going to be so hard, but I am sure that I can do it. He is going to be back in thirty minutes for us to have lunch together with the kids. I dry my hand on a towel and began to walk towards the sitting room. It's going to be much better for me to meet them. I had this belief that they will not shun me if I did. My eyes seems to go watery as soon as I see them. I force a smile to hide the fear bubbling inside me and wish that they don't see beyond my smile.

"Hi," I say somewhat too cheerfully.

"Hi." Kitana is the only one who answers me, realizing that I was her class teacher. I don't miss the way her brother holds her to himself, like I am a monster that wants to take her away. I didn't expect him to recognize me, but I had hoped he did.

"How was school today guys?" I ask instead.

Kitana looks at her brother and he looks at her too. They decide that this question isn't worthy of an answer.

"Okay," I smile. "I am making dinner. I know that you two must be famished-"

"We are not hungry." Jack speaks for the first time.

My heart falls in disappointment. If there was one thing that was harder than getting my medical degree, it was learning how to cook and I can't believe that they would reject my food like that. I put a lot for effort into this.

"Look, I know you both don't like me, but can you give me a try" I pleaded looking at the both of them

"Fine. Nice to see you here,Miss Camila." they answered and I smiled, hopefully we've called a truce .

"But I am still not hungry" Jack said as he stood up

"We are going upstairs now." He gently pushes his sister ahead of me and soon, I was left standing alone.

I feel the tears pooling in my eyes and I feel terrible already.

It hasn't been even an hour since we met. I return to the kitchen to realize that my food is about to burn.

15 minutes later

The kitchen door opens and Kevin enters. The driver is behind him holding some files. I smile at him as he walks towards me, waving a hand.

"Hello, Camila. "

"Hi. " I laugh.

He looks into my eyes and in that instant, he understands that something isn't right with me. I'm crazy, I know, but I knew of I had stared into his eyes at that moment, I'd give off everything.

"What's wrong?" He asks.

"Nothing," I smile, trying to keep my head hung low. "It's nothing huge. The kids aren't hungry.It's fine, no worries. Let them ...... ."

Kevin left before I could finish my sentence.

That's all that I needed to tell him and his face becomes reddened. He rushes upstairs and he returns with the kids. They look very unpleased.

"To the table. Right now!" He orders them.

Kitana looks at her brother and she falls on her knees, holding her chest in her hands. I immediately deciphered she is having an attack. I rushed to her and grabbed her.

"Kitana!" Her brother panics. Her father rushes upstairs.

He brings her inhaler and soon, after applying the inhaler, she returns back to normal. Her brother wipes his hands behind him and helps his sister up.

"Let's go to the table." Her father helps her up.

I sigh in relief before standing back to my feet. I look at her.

"Camila," Jack quietly calls me, and I turned to face him, surprised. "be sure to give the pasta a good stir before serving it." He smiles and walks away after giving me the strange advise.

After serving the pasta and saying The Grace, I watch everyone spit out their first spoon out; myself inclusive.

I've been tricked.

It tasted like I cooked salt.
