Chapter 10 The pain

Amelia's POV

As I slowly began to open my eyes, I felt pains all over my body. I began to recall what had happened the previous day, I looked at my skin only to find the belt marks of the flogging I had received.

Tears began to slow from my eyes, I didn't even want to hold them back any longer. What have I done

to deserve this kind of ill treatment.

I managed to stand up from Liam's bed as I walked round the house searching for Liam. Thankfully he was nowhere to be found in the house and immediately assumed that he had gone to work. I began to pack any of my things that I could find in his house.

I couldn't continue staying with him but the only problem is he knows where I live and I think the best option I have is to go stay with Williams, after that I might leave the demon part of Oecia and go back to where I come from (the wizard part of Oecia).

I packed my things from Liam's house and also went to my house to get down other things. I went to William's house, I knocked on the door but no one answered so I assumed he was not around and I was about to leave when he called me back and said.

"Amelia, you are here?"

"Oh my God what happened to you?" He added the moment I turned around to face him.

"Williams can I ..??" I wanted to ask if I could stay with him for sometime but words couldn't flow from my mouth.

"Just come in," he said as he noticed that I had become silent.

"Please have a sit" Williams offered as he went into his fridge to get me some refreshments.

"Thank you so much. You are nice to me even after I had rejected you so many times in the past" I said as I collected the glass of juice from him and took a sip.

"It's nothing. I told you that I love you so much and I am willing to do anything for you" Williams said as he sat next to me on the sofa.

"So tell me what happened to you.

Why all the marks? And your face is swollen as well" he added.

"Liam, can we not talk about this now?" I pleaded with him, as I almost began to shed tears.

"Well ok.why are you with such a big bag?" Williams asked.

"Well... Williams.. I wanted to ask if it would be ok if I stay with you for sometime. I promise that I won't stay long and you won't even notice that I am here. Just let me stay here please" I pleaded.

"Fine i will let you stay here but only for one condition" Williams said, I got so frightened after he said that but I managed to ask

"And what is your condition?"

"My condition is you will have to tell me what happened to you why you want to stay here" he replied

I looked down as I breathed out heavily, contemplating on whether I should tell him or not. I really don't want Liam to hear this and say that I am going around, giving him a bad name.

"You know you can confide in me. I promise it will remain between the both of us. Amelia tell me what actually happened" Williams said as he held my hands as if trying to reassure me of his words.

"Williams.." was all I could say before I burst into tears.

"Calm down. Take a deep breath and talk" he said as he rubbed my hands softly.

"Well, yesterday's hen Liam had come back from work. He said that he saw us hugging and... and he.." I was looking for the right words to complete my sentence.

"He did this to you I presume" Williams said as he helped me to complete the sentence.

I simply nodded my head in response.

I could see that Williams was so aggravated by what happened, he stood up from the chair but then I grabbed his hand.

"Williams, please don't do anything that will worsen my situation. The only help you can give to me now is to let me stay here with you. Please" I pleaded with him once again.

"Is ok, you can stay here for as long as you want" Williams said as he helped me to carry my luggage.

He showed me a particular room and told me that was where I will be sleeping throughout my stay with him.

Williams had surprised that night by making dinner

"Wow! You can cook?" I asked Williams as I drew a chair out for me to sit down.

"Well of course I can't you?" He asked as he smiled as if he was trying to tease me.

"Don't be so sure yet. I haven't tasted the food" I said as I dished some of the porridge into my mouth.

"Hmmn. Soo good" I moaned.

"So you like it?" Williams asked.

"I didn't say so," I replied.

Williams just stared at me with a confused look on his face.

"I love it," I said as I smiled.

He smiled as well as we ate our food.

We got into a little conversation, Williams had always been the fun type. We were very good friends at least not until Williams confessed his feelings and Liam began to feel insecure. I began to feel sad as I remembered Liam, sometimes I felt like nothing I did or said seemed to satisfy him.

Liam's POV

I had returned home only to find out that Amelia was no longer at home. I chose to have my rest and wait for him but she didn't come back. Early morning the next day I went to her house to look for her.

My plans were to drag her back to my house if she refused to come but she wasn't there.

I thought maybe she went out so I went to work. Lady Barbara asked me to accompany her to the local meat market and of course I did, accompanied by some other guards as well.

Amelia's POV

I went to the local meat market in order to get down meat so I could make lunch since Williams had already made breakfast. Williams is really a caring and loving person, whoever ends up with Williams will be very lucky.

I didn't realize I had lost track of where I was heading to until I bumped into someone. The goods I had purchased so far fell and I apologized as I began to pick them up.

I didn't even look up to see who I bumped into until I heard a rude feminine voice say.

"Are you blind or you just can't walk properly?".It was lady Barbara, she was in the market with some of her guards and of course Liam was amongst the guards.

I rolled my eyes away.

"I already apologized to you my lady so there is no need to be rude" I said to her.

"Are you talking to me like that? Do you know who I am?" Lady Barbara asked.

Of course, it is very common for wealthy people to be mean and also to try and make a mockery of us commoners but I won't let her intimidate me.

"I am asking you a question, so you know who I am?" She asked again after noticing my silence.

"Of course I do. You are lady Barbara, daughter of Lord Zaka and so on?" I said so rudely.

I looked at her expression and just couldn't help but smile. I am sure that throughout her life, nobody might have spoken to her in that manner before. She looked so upset and that gave me a huge amount of joy.

The way Liam kept staring at me as if trying to give me warning signs, but that really was the least of my problem.

Because of Liam I had to cover my hair and parts of my face with a scarf so people won't make fun of me, of how I look and now he wants to tell me what to do and what not to do. Hell no!

"If you will excuse me now. I beg to take my leave lady Barbara" I said and turned around to leave.

"Don't you dare take another step or else" lady Barbara threatened

"Or else you will call your dad and have him put me in the dungeon or you will get me beaten up?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow.

"How dare you speak to me in such a manner?" She said as she raised her hand to slap me but I held her hand in the air and let go of it.

"You can threaten your maids and guards when you get to the palace but you can't scare me so please excuse me" I said while I eyed her and took my leave.
