Jimmy clicked his tongue in annoyance when he heard the statement, he denied nothing because he couldn't. He pretended not to hear it and asked, "Then why are you in her place if you're her brother something cousin something best friend something. I don't know."
"I'm her brother's best friend's cousin," The spirit repeated again, "Long story, got no time to explain it.
"Make it short then," He raised his eyebrows while smiling.
The spirit opened his mouth, before closing it. He pondered for a while, opened his mouth again, "She was bloody tired of the traffic humans caused. You know, bloody."
Jimmy deadpanned, "Lame."
The spirit scoffed, clearly offended, "Do you want me to continue or not?"
"Sure thing," He shrugged.
"She got no time for rituals anymore since she got a family and mine too, things like that. The child went to a shithole land and shits went downhill, man, it was hectic. I was minding my own business then suddenly she went all nuts on me, crazy-fucker," The spirit grimaced as he remembered what it seemed to be unpleasant memories, "Said I should take over for her. Then I answered, sis I ain't gonna do it for free. She slapped my head upside down. That's it."
"Humans caused traffic?"
The spirit nodded in confirmation, "Too many of your kind called Bloody Mary, pissed her off too much. I was her sandbag."
He snickered at that, hiding his mouth behind his hand, "You? Why you?"
"That spirit is crazy, nut-bag," The spirit mumbled under his breath, "Got some weird ass grudge on me. Just not gonna say this in front of her or she'll end me."
"Can't you fight her back?"
"Do I look like I'm capable of fighting back?" The spirit asked without a smile or trace of amusement, "Bloody Mary's power exceeds most of the spirits in our world, she got many of your kind giving her power intentionally or unintentionally."
"Spirits feed on humans' fear, don't they," Jimmy stated. He didn't question it, he knew that much.
"That's one of it, we feed on different emotions of humans, but never happiness," The spirit exclaimed, looking past Jimmy, it made his stomach churned once again and chest tightened painfully, "We feed on their sadness, fear, guilt, grudge, and hatred."
"You telling me all this," He forced a smile, "Gonna get you in trouble."
"Oh no, that's the one thing you're wrong about," The spirit said, letting his hands fall beside his body, "Mankind knows a lot. We don't hide it. We feed on their curiosity, their want to know about us."
Jimmy chuckled, grabbing his shirt as his chest tightening again, "Good to know that, spirit."
The spirit hummed, still looking at the same spot, "We feed easier when we latched ourselves onto the human's body. Like what your spirit is doing."
Jimmy nearly stumbled back when he heard that, his eyes snapped up, "What did you say?"
"Like what your spirit is doing," The spirit pointed at his left and right side, then up and down, "Actually, spirits. It seems they like you, no, love you."
To say Jimmy felt terrified was an understatement, he didn't know why he felt scared. He was not easily scared, but he did. His breath got heavier, beads of sweats fell down his forehead.
"I'm flattered," Jimmy smirked, pretending, "I'm loved even by spirits."
"Do you want me to tell them to go away?" The spirit titled his head, hair bobbing along, "Or do you want them to keep latching on you? You look like death."
"Yes, please," Jimmy said without a moment of hesitation.
"Okay then, because you said please," he clapped his hands, faking a happiness, "Now, spirits, let go of him. Oh? You don't want to?" The spirit pouted, "But he's Bloody Mary's, are you stealing from her? Oh, you're letting go? Good boys, now go! There are tons of humans out there. Take care!"
"Are they gone?" Jimmy asked, immediately he felt lighter. He tried to catch his breath, looking down at the basin when a familiar ache enter his head.
"They're gone," The spirit confirmed, "You should go now, dude. You shouldn't call for Bloody Mary anymore."
"Why? Doesn't she gain more power?"
"She does," Answer him.
"What's your point then?"
"That you shouldn't," The spirit simply said, seemingly satisfied with his own answer. Smug little shit, he thought.
"That doesn't answer my question."
"Doesn't matter."
"It does."
"Does not."
"It does."
"It does not. I have no time for this, someone is calling Bloody Mary again, bloody hell," The spirit looked down on his watch, it glared a bright lights for a moment before it went dark again, "Now, if you'll excuse me. Don't ask for Bloody Mary ever again."
"What's your name?" Jimmy winced when his tone sounded desperate, this time he lowered his voice and asked, "What's your name?"
The spirit looked at his eyes, not saying anything then he looked down, shaking his head and muttering, "Doesn't matter."
He was gone in an instant.
Jimmy stared in disbelief, he looked at the previously bright candle. The fire died by itself.
The smell of rotting flesh started hitting his nose again when he turned his back from the mirror, he pursed his lips.
Jimmy looked at himself into the mirror once again, blankly staring at himself. There was a black line behind his figure, he smiled at it. The black line was gone and his smile was turned down. Snapping out of his thought, he collected the candle and incense. He clutched them in his hands.
The dead animals were disgusting, Jimmy thought. He crouched down and he looked at it, somehow his mind wandered somewhere else as he kept his eyes on them. He was able to see maggots writhed their way inside of the dead animals flesh. It moved, it wiggled. His hand moved on its own, eyes widened as it was a centimeter away from touching the rotting flesh.
Jimmy retracted his hand back in jolting movement.
He stood up not too long after that and went out of the bathroom. Locked the door, he then went inside his house, quietly as before. By the time he finished putting all the tools along the keys in their respective places, it was almost two in the morning.
Carefully, he entered his bedroom. Jimmy laid his body on his bed, he stared at his bedroom ceiling. Sleep took over him.
