"Right, it was horrible. I was surprised we became a friend," Nate laughed, head titled back as he looked up, "Never thought we'd stop pissing our pants around you. You were a total creep, Jim."
"Right."
Since both his family and theirs had histories with each other, a long term partner in many things. It wasn't a surprised when the four of them were forced into one room, expected to befriend each other. It was, however, a wonder how they managed befriended one another through hatred which first grew in fear. It was idiotic, he admitted. His friends were terrified out of their wits, Jimmy was terrified but stood up for his parents.
They became friends first at March of 2002, not knowing how.
Since then, their friends had a habit coming into his house without announcement, at times just as a symbol of care and at times because they had no place to run away.
"How about Han then?" Trevor and Nate looked at each other, both shrugged.
"Kid got flying scores," Nate said. Jimmy knew that, yet still asked, "It's expected he goes home first, tattle on us to his parents and then his parents will tell ours. Being the good kid he is."
Jimmy raised his eyebrow at Trevor, who shrugged again, "I'm not saying anything about him, man. Nate could shit-talk about him all day, he's still my awesome pal."
"Thing is that, Trevor is his favorite friend," Nate faced Jimmy, eyes serious but mouth twitched upwards a little, gone a second later, "Argue with me, but Trevor is his best friend. Guy always makes time, teach him knowledge to knowledge. See? Good friends. Han and I? We argue who's wrong and who's right like there's no tomorrow."
"Right," Jimmy rolled his eyes, placing his hand on his friend's arm, feeling curious why his friend keep looking at his watch, "Your watch died. Probably the battery. Also, I would've been surprised if Han chooses Trevor over you. Man, you two can't stand each other."
"Woah," Trevor protested, looking mildly horrified, "Don't bring me into this."
"A little too late. But, what he said, also I wasn't actually surprised that he choose the guy over me," His friend let Jimmy messed around with his hand and watch, "Thought how we are constantly arguing like a pair of married couple was totally stronger bonding time than doing nerdy shits."
"Come on, both of you stop talking about this," Trevor complained, his lower lip jutting out and eyes widening. Jimmy smiled at that, ruffling Trevor's hair, making his friend whine even more.
"So you two came here to run away?"
"We're not here just so we could avoid a beaten ass, you know," Nate said.
"Right, man," Trevor turned his head away, looking around, "Wait, you got any drinks here?"
Jimmy scoffed in disbelief, "You bought snacks but not drinks?"
"Small budget, Jim," Nate answered, "We got no money on us. The big portion? Trevor shoved it down somewhere. Something about me subscribing into porn channels."
"Right, what you say," Jimmy said, "There's a water bottles inside my desk, get them out."
Nate asked, "So, any reason you turned off your phone?"
Trevor pulled his hoodie off him, placing it on his lap. Jimmy heard him messing around his desk, but he pretended not to hear it, instead he chewed his lips and frowned.
Jimmy wasn't surprised about what Nate asked, he had turn off his phone from yesterday, sleeping it off. He tried his best remembering every features of the creatures or more like a spirit. A spirit he saw at Nate's and Trevor's house.
Forgot some important features, remembered useless things, like a small speck of dirt around the spirit's neck. He didn't remember much except a smooth skin and black pants. It wasn't much about him remembering every features either, despite everything, he didn't know how to explain the parts Bloody Mary had.
"No particular reason," He mumbled. His mind jumbled around, thinking about what to say and what not to say. He wasn't a straight A student in avoiding questions.
"Been trying to contact you since yesterday," Trevor opened the bottle cap open after he sat down beside him, offering the bottle to Jimmy who shook his head.
"Especially our kiddo, Jerome," Jimmy turned his attention from Trevor to Nate, "He got all jittery over you not talking after we asked several times, he was worried you went nuts. We got the procedure wrong because he whined about being hungry."
"But it wasn't really his fault, really. We all got distracted, Trevor was a total worrier. Or some. He went all frantic, went and handed Jerome a bar of chocolate snack that tasted like shit, we forgot about you for a bit," Jimmy pursed his lips in distaste, not wanting anything more than giving a snarky remarks. He didn't know it was possible to forget things like that.
"Did you went nuts?" Trevor put an arm around his shoulders. He pursed his lips and scrutinized Jimmy, which then he pushed Trevor's face away from him.
"I don't know, do I look crazy to you?"
"Your eyes looked a bit crazed," He threw Trevor a dirty glare, he sighed loudly.
"I'm okay, you know," Nate looked at him with expression akin to disbelief, "Oh, come on. I am okay. Totally sane. I didn't see much yesterday anyway."
Both Trevor's and Nate's expression turned into curiosity. Their eyes both were wide open. It was the same expression Jimin saw each time they had a meeting. A child-like curiosity.
"What did you see yesterday, Jim?"
What did he see? One hell of a hot spirit.
Dear Lord, not only was he was going to be grounded by his mother because of his recklessness, he was probably going to be forever banned from learning about spirits ever again.
"You guys worried about me or something?" He cheekily asked, getting a slapped on the head by his friend. Well, he deserved that anyway.
"We're not playing this game, Jim," Trevor picked up his hoodie, throwing it away on his face. He instinctively avoided it.
"I don't know what you want me to say man," Jimmy wasn't sure whether he should lie or not, "I didn't see much, you know."
"We want you to say what you see," Trevor said.
"I saw black shadow for a second, man, didn't see anything else," He should probably just lie like this, easier than mentioning about last night's truth.
"Only that?" Trevor pursed his lips.
He nodded, "Only that."
Trevor pried his eyes off him, "Did we gave Jim the wrong procedure, Nate?"
"I'm not sure. But I don't think so," Nate rummaged through his black bag, pulling out another crumpled paper, "See this? I don't think we were wrong. Probably heavy traffic in spirit's world or something."
"It could be that. You sure you didn't see anything else, Jim?"
"I am sure," No, I'm not.
"Okay, then," Nate muttered, his phone was vibrating inside his bag. He looked down, "Oh, brother, mother texted me. Said papa is looking for us, we gotta go home."
"Oh, shit," Trevor frantically wore his hoodie back on, it was upside down, he pulled it off and wore it again, "Jim, we gotta go. We'd come again tomorrow with Han and Jerome. You better go to school tomorrow, your soccer team were looking for you."
Jimmy waved his friends off, telling him not to worry. The three of them hugged each other.
When they were gone, he locked his room again. Jimmy lied down on his bed, he, closed his eyes. Thinking tonight, definitely tonight he would went into his backyard's bathroom. Tried the same ritual as yesterday, to see the same man as yesterday. He drifted off at the thought.
