"Pay attention, here's what you have to do. First, you must do it at midnight. Exactly at midnight. Second there will be candles, lighter, and incense inside. You must light the candle, one or two after turning the lights off, we will turn the lights outside the bathroom so it would room. Put those candles on the sink," Trevor rummaged through his black bag, pulling a crumpled piece of paper, "Then you light up an incense, put them in front of the mirror. It is said to be your protector from dangerous spirit. You must chant this, as protection too. Look into the mirror for one minute straight, exactly one minute, before chanting Bloody Mary three times or thirteen times. That should done that, usually she would come out. After a minute, or less, we would come inside so you don't become crazy. Don't lock the door, understand?"
Jimmy nodded, "I understand, that sounds pretty easy. Do you have all the tools already?"
This time Nate spoke up, rather proudly, "We do, fam. Tools are pretty basic, we have it on our parents' bedroom, I think. I'm going to check it out."
"I'm coming with you, man," Jerome stood up after finishing his drink. He pulled off his brown hoodie and putting it down on the floor. The action left him rather more bare than usual, wearing only a sleeveless shirt and a pair of thigh length short.
Jimmy thought it was strange. He asked Han who was scrolling through his phone in boredom, seeing the other brother was busy looking through the thick reading material again, "Those two are being weird as fuck again."
Han looked up, eyes boring into Jerome's figure in disinterest, "I mean, man, they had that thing just a month ago, no wonder they are still weird around each other."
He hummed, "I guess so, it's rather weird how nervous he is though."
"Why?"
Jimmy found himself shrugging.
"The guy was insistent as fuck when it comes to leaving his hoodie on, it's pretty unusual."
"He's flashing off, probably," Han muttered. Jimmy let it go at that, it was not entirely impossible Jerome's intention was to display his body's structure. They had done that a lot in the past, just boys being boys, coming down on the basement, rulers on their hand. Usually without Jerome, who would just watch movies upstairs.
"If you say so."
Nate along with Jerome strutted behind, came back ten minutes later, holding a black plastic. Jimmy assumed they found all they needed already, so did his other three friends apparently. In no time, they handed all the tools to him. Some excitedly clapped in glee, more excited than he was, some were busy whispering conspiratorially. He looked down on his watch, it showed 11:45.
"I'm going to go the bathroom inside, it's nearly midnight already," He said, dusting off his pants.
"You really sure about this?" Han asked.
"I'm sure, Han."
His friend whispered, clinging onto his pants, "Please be careful."
He laughed, "I'm facing a spirit, I can't be careful. Please call my parents and say that I love them if something happens to me, also that I broke their vase also their pan just last week. I said it was our cat, and I'm sorry. Say sorry to my cat too."
He patted his friends' shoulder dramatically, as if he was saying goodbye.
Inside the bathroom, Jimmy was able to think of things, a clear list, about things that could go wrong when he was in the middle of the ritual. Too much possibilities and few that his brain caught in short amount of time, those are;
1. Bloody Mary was a spirit with vengeance and she would ripped his face, shredded it. He was not too keen towards the idea, seemingly it probably would cause his mother to have a high blood pressure if her son came home with a bloodied shirt that was washed just yesterday. It wouldn't be pleasant for both of them.
2. Bloody Mary was not a spirit with vengeance or hate, instead she was a sweetheart who would invite Jimmy into having tea together and gossips. Then Bloody Mary got attached and pulled him inside the mirror because she just couldn't resist his charm. (Very unlikely, but he liked to imagine Bloody Mary was a very beautiful young lady).
3. Bloody Mary was not a spirit with vengeance, but his presence annoyed her enough that she ripped his face.
4. Bloody Mary was actually a male instead of female, legends were most of the time unreliable anyway.
5. Bloody Mary sucked him inside the mirror, replacing him with her as she takes over his life or she would just sit above Jimin's soul.
6. Bloody Mary was not real. Disappointment, but he was safe.
Jimmy didn't know which one was worst. Bloody Mary not being real was definitely the least bad one. It was no doubt that certainly he would feel disappointment, a deep heavy disappointment if his childhood nightmare was not a true form. Rather, a fragment of humans' imaginations so they would teach horrors from what was imaginative. Or maybe so they could forgot what was horror all about in real life. Bloody Mary had always been depicted as someone with greed wider than the sky, lust deeper than the sea, they would say she was trapped in her own miseries, for what she traded and brought upon herself. It might be someone's fragment of horrors. Their fears. Mixed with others.
Either way, his childhood self would be disappointed since he was now apparently going to fuck around with spirits.
"Are you guys still outside?" Jimmy made sure there box of candles, an incense, and a lighter. He heard his friends saying an excited yet nervous 'yes', he smiled.
"Okay, then," He looked at the time, 11:50, ten minutes to go, "Turn off the lights outside so it would truly work."
Jimmy grinned when he heard someone scampered clumsily outside. He trusted his friends to turn off the lights, Jimmy concentrated on his job inside. His was the hardest, he could be dying in ten minutes. No, nine minutes. It sure better be damn worth it.
"Hey, are you sure about this?" Han asked from the outside, making sure one more time.
Jimmy nodded, poking his tongue out because he realized his friend couldn't see his nod, "Yes, Han, I'm sure. Now hush, I'm going to do this right."
His friends said good luck.
He turned off the light, reaching the box of candles inside of it blindly. He opened it carefully when he got it, pulling two white long candles out of it. Jimmy looked at himself inside the mirror, reaching blindly again. He needed a lighter and knocked out a few unknown objects into the floor. He thought he heard one bottle cracks, if he was right, it must be Nate's skin lotion.
Jimin melted a little bit of the candles wax, placing both candles neatly on the sink below the mirror. Next he burned up an incense as a protection as Trevor had said previously, it was something that protected his existence and soul from the grasp of something that was wicked. Evil. Hateful. He placed it in front of the mirror.
What was next?
Right, a protection spell chant. He closed his eyes, "For thine protection I now pray, let all evil turn away, protect me night, protect me day, and keep misfortune well at bay."
Open your eyes, look at your own reflection. Now count back. First is sixty, then last is one. Count back, exactly a minute. Yes, a minute. Don't get it wrong. Exactly sixty seconds, don't add one second, or erase one.
"Bloody Mary," Jimmy said after a minute looking straight into his own eyes.
One's down.
"Bloody Mary," Jimmy took a breath.
Two's down.
"Bloody Mary," This was it.
Three's down.
If he came out sane and he said he didn't almost hit his head on the floor due to his dizziness and high possibility of fainting, granted he'd be lying. Behind him on the mirror, a vague silhouette, blotches of colors started to take place. The blotches of colors were formed into more clearer figure. Jimin's breath came out shorter and shorter, his hands became clammy, his hair stood up. He saw a hand reaching out to him still in blotches of blurry colors. Jimmy stayed in his place firmly , gulping his spits.
He braced himself, he was sure he was going to see a disfigured face, a young woman but with disfigured face. Yeah, that was what he expected.
He surely squinted his eyes when he saw Bloody Mary was wearing black tight shiny pants and loose white shirt that showed her collarbones, almost chest (that, in fact, was the prettiest collarbone he had ever seen). He raked his eyes up and down.
A light shades of skin color. A light shades of hair color, what was it? Blue?
Yes, he did think Bloody Mary might be a male. Yet he didn't expect when his eyes were seeing. He expected a lot of things, long list, a few only that his brain was able to comprehended in such short amount of time. Not one, not in any of them Jimin expected Bloody Mary to be hell of a hot spirit.
"Oh my God," They breathed at the same time
